im sure not many people rely on the paintball gun as a weapon, so might as well make it actually use paint and paint blocks it hits
it could also change the colour of enemies and NPCs for a time
since it would be an insanely annoying griefing item, it would need some way to easily counteract it
maybe a water gun cleans blocks painted by the paintballs, or the paint comes off after a while, and reverting to their actual painted coat
if it washed off after a day it would be a fun non destructive griefing weapon for multiplayer thats just annoying
additionally a paint bomb could coat a bomb sized area in the paint used to craft it, this would also be useful for painting giant areas in 1 colour
