Story Paladin: A Story of Fallen Warrior

DarkeXia

Terrarian
In the world of Terraria, a place of where magical entities and oddities congregate and create an environment where all things interact with each other. Such is with side of Light, and the side of Darkness. Their avatars, the Hallow and the Corruption/Crimson, are always at odds with each other. The Corruption tries infest everything to convert them, to corrupt them, fill them with its Soul. The Hallow on the other hand, tries to spread the Light into everything, converting every mindless and simple creatures into more dangerous things, such as the case with bats and slimes. Over this long cycle of being Hallowed or Corrupted, many people, things and places are being destroyed, slowly being eroded into nothingness. The realm has been shaken to its core over this fight to stop the spread of both Light and Darkness.

That is when heroes started coming in. People with extraordinary powers, powers that allow them to wield weapons that most could never do. They appear in the center of the realm, dressed simply and armed lightly, their power at their minimum capacity. However as time goes by, their powers become stronger. Extraordinary powers, I say. Some are able to wield different weapons of all classifications, some are specialized in their arts, being able to put down the greatest of monsters swiftly with ease. That is when the 4 came to be. Great Heroes, together, they managed to destroy the pillars that connect the realm to the moon, and they slew the Being that was destined to be the one who will end the realm of Terraria, the Moon Lord. The Warrior, Mage, Summoner, and Ranger, together, they wielded weapons of mass destruction, weapons that could cause chaos and turmoil if said weapons were to turn against each other. Weapons of the same roots are sure to cause more havoc than if they were wielded against the same foe. They sealed the rift which from where the Lunar Being used to enter this world, and the purified the world from war.

As time went on, this 4 slowly faded into legends, mere shadows of their glory. And as their legacy is passed down, a name is slowly forgotten, his memory slowly becoming rumors and stories that only men of time knew. The Paladin, a man older than the legacy that the Great Heroes passed on. Nobody knows who he is anymore, or what is left of him. Now, all that is left, or what people claim to have seen, is that his suit of armor roams the dungeon, hunting down Adventurers who brave the undead.

The Paladin is said to have come when the Hallow and Corruption were at their worst. Just like adventurers and heroes, he appeared into the realm. However, he was already at full strength when he came. His first goal was to stop the spread of the Hallow and Corruption, at best banish their souls from the land. He was ruthless in his killings of creatures, so ruthless in fact that he was once seen as a hero, and was then seen as a dangerous beast, more dangerous than what lurks in the lands. What he did which finalized this perspective, was that he sought the soul of a man and bound to a creature he made. He then banished the creature to the depths of the world, the Underworld, where demons and magma are said to have originated from. This was the Wall of Flesh. He used this creature as a medium where he can bind the souls of Light and Dark. This was easier than banishing them entirely, as heroes have an easy access to the safe that contains both Souls, whenever the need arises.

His next goal was to completely eradicate and put the souls of those who fought wars during the time of when Light and Dark were uncontrollable terrors to rest. He headed to the Dungeon. At that time, there was no man who warns those who enter of the horrible things that would happen. Back then, it was a tomb, a resting place for soldiers. But they were rising up from the grave to fight once more, this time to kill adventurers. The Paladin saw this a source of evil and a place where spirits can travel between planes, the Spirit Plane and the Mortal Plane. So he went down and did his job. He crushed jaws, bashed them back to pieces with his shield, and dispelled spirits with his hammer. For a while, things were fine. Soon the tomb was filled with crushed bones and dust, ripped and torn books, broken weapons, and flickering lights. Eventually, the bits of ectoplasm, residue or what was left of the spirits, in the bones eventually gathered into one thought, and the bones melded together. It created an amalgamation of thoughts and bones, the remains of millions of soldiers. This being came to be known as Skeletron. The Paladin saw this and fought it, destroying the body and legs of the being, leaving only his arms and legs. As they were fighting, Skeletron managed to "eat" the Paladin, that is, he went through the cavity that would have been the mouth. But this was a significant thing, because the Paladin was sent to the Spirit Plane above the tomb. He saw visions of people dying and visions of fighting and death. He also heard voices, voices of the dead, whispering, feeding his inner evil. The Corruption also whispered to him, slowly corrupting him in the inside. He managed to get out of the Plane, and sealed Skeletron to a dying man outside the Tomb. That healed the man, but it also turned him insane. He fell into the Dungeon, slowly fading away, as he was bound to the Corruption, as the Corruption is bound to the Wall of Flesh. He faded away, allowing the growth of the numbers of the undead who have not yet risen against him.

Eventually, time passed by. Eventually years went by. It took a long time for heroes to finally slay the Wall, at the sacrifice of the man, who hurled himself into the lakes of magma in the underworld, but not before storing some of his soul to a doll. As the Wall was slain, the Spirits of Light and Dark were released, allowing the spread of Light and Dark again. So, the spirits of the world were also released, allowing the empowerment of the undead in the tomb, now a Dungeon. The spirit of a warrior was also released. He wields a hammer and shield, and dons a suit of armor, awaiting those who can defeat Skeletron.

Unknowingly, before this events, the defeat of Skeletron won't allow the rising of undead, but rather, the death of a plant deep in the Jungle. This plant killed the adventurers who plucked it's flowers scattered around the Jungle. Eventually it was defeated with an army of adventurers, fully releasing the spirits of the undead. This was because of the Dryad, who used all her strength to create a plant who will harbor the souls of undead aside from Skeletron. This was to keep any adventurer parties who are exploring the Dungeon from being massacred by the undead. So they used their new gear from which they crafted from Plantera's corps to defeat Skeletron, and they did. A scout party was sent into the Dungeon to map it. As they were defending themselves and mapping the locations, they saw a man in armor wielding a hammer and a shield. They tried to take it down, but they went down one by one. A warrior tried to go in and keep it busy while the ranger and the mage tried to take it down. But he was killed as he got bashed into the wall, his insides crushed and blood was gushing out of all orifices he had. The mage and ranger put more effort into their attacks, aiming for potential weak spots. But they both got massacred. The ranger was killed by being bashed into the ground, trying to get closer for his Megashark. The mage tried to run away, but got annihilated when the hammer that was thrown by the man that hit him in the head, nearly decapitating his head off due to sheer and brutal force. The man faded away into the depths of the Dungeon.

The rest of the army waited for the party, who never came back. They figured it was about time to explore it. But inside, they got massacred. Some died to the undead, others to the deadly traps and spikes, and most died to the man. A man who was once the savior of the realm, became one of the most dangerous beings, killing thousand of Terrarians. People knew he was coming, as the air got cold, almost freezing, and the undead screamed a shrilling cry, then silence. Footsteps echo across the halls, and they all felt fear. And they all scrambled to run away, hoping he won't appear and come, some were lucky, other were not so.

Eventually, a hero, greater than others, came and put a rest to the fallen Paladin. His spirit tried to attack him, but it was dispelled. We now know that, he was most likely possessed with the Soul of Evil, as a spirit came out of the armor. But, we aren't so sure as to what really happened to him, as after the spirit was gone, the armor faded away. He could be really dead and that a ghost used his armor, or that he was possessed and started killing people, or if he did this on his own accord. But one is for sure, and that is ghosts never die, as sightings of him, or whats truly of him, is seen walking the halls of the Dungeon. It will try to kill people, and to those who managed to banish the ghost, sometimes, his weapons are left behind, waiting to be used. This tells us that, the legend of the once Great Paladin, has some truth to it.
