Hi everyone! Terraria veteran here. I joined the forums with the purpose of initiating a change. This has to do with the controller support on PC. Why is controller support on PC so broken while the android version is perfect? Like it's impossible to navigate to settings on a controller. Android version is infinitely more customizable, too. For people with an ROG Ally or Steam Deck, we could really use an upgrade. Yes, I'm aware I can use the touch screen to click settings, but what about when I connect to a TV and want to use an external controller? I'd like to see controller functionality as close as possible to the android version

Why is controller support on PC so broken while the android version is perfect? Like it's impossible to navigate to settings on a controller. Android version is infinitely more customizable, too. For people with an ROG Ally or Steam Deck, we could really use an upgrade. Yes, I'm aware I can use the touch screen to click settings, but what about when I connect to a TV and want to use an external controller? I'd like to see controller functionality as close as possible to the android version. The ability to map controls to the pressing of 2 different buttons at the same time is an example of how android is much more customizable. Any changes would be much appreciated. Oh and I should add 2 things: You cannot open chat on a controller. My ROG Ally has on-screen keyboard but there's no way to open chat, even with the touchscreen. Also, why can't I select an item in my inventory and use it like I can on android? It's incredibly tedious to have to move an item to my hotbar, close inventory, use it, open inventory, and put it back. Surely these 2 things are an easy fix.

Because Terraria on PC prioritises mouse and keyboard controls first.
On mobile and consoles, there is only 1 controller scheme to pay attention to. So it's easier to work with that. On top of been handled with different devs dedicated on that support too.
On a personal level, it's difficult to keep track of every additional setting and UI Element that it requires controller support too. Especially when it's just 'point and click' for mouse controls. As I've seen it happen with Torch God's Favor and similair additions.

But not having a button to open chat? Or a way to navigate to the settings? Both would be trivially easy to implement and they've had a decade to get it done. Seems like some major level of oversight.

idk how fesable this is but why not just copy paste code from android
I ain't no coder. I know player files can be imported and exported but you're talking about fundamentally rebuilding the game.
