PC PC Multiplayer NOT WORKING! :(

Batmantoyjo

Terrarian
Hello! So I was trying to play terraria with my brother the other day, I told him to do host & play and I’ll join him, when he tries to host and clicks his character & world and enters the password, then the page gets stuck on “Found Server” the same has been happening to me, no matter how long we leave it running, it gets stuck on “Found Server.” Does anyone know how to fix this? We use the same internet, I don’t know what’s wrong, this has worked in the past but now it’s not. Please help!

Hey @Batmantoyjo, sorry to hear you're having issues.

Getting stuck on "Found Server" without the client itself freezing generally means the client is waiting on data from the server but not receiving it. If it has worked in the past the issue is likely due to a change in your network situation.

Are you joining via Steam or via IP?

Hello, @Kazzymodus ! Thanks so much for replying,

the issue only occurs when I try to Host & Play, not when I try to join someone, sorry for the confusion! When I join people via Steam, it does work and lets me into a game, but I cannot host for some unknown reason! D:

I see. And are the people trying to join you doing so via Steam or via IP?

Is your Steam Friend status set to offline by any chance? This sometimes interferes with Steam online play.

Could you check your firewall settings and see if TerrariaServer is an allowed application?
I dont see terrariaserver, @Kazzymodus , but there is two "Terrarias" that are enabled public & private!

Alright, that should not be the problem then.

Could you try instead of hosting via Host & Play manually launch the dedicated server? Its terminal may give some information on why other players can not connect.
  1. In your Terraria installation folder (easily reached by right-clicking Terraria in your Steam Library and clicking Manage > Browse local files), run TerrariaServer.exe.
  2. Start your server using the terminal - it should be fairly straightforward.
  3. Once the server is up and running, launch Terraria.
  4. Click on Multiplayer > Join via IP, choose your player and then use as IP 127.0.0.1, this will allow you to join your own server.
  5. Once you are in your server, ask other players to join you via Steam. Does anything appear in the TerrariaServer terminal when they do?
