Hi, On the day after journeys end release I logged and downloaded the update. I couldn't create new characters or worlds. I fixed this by giving a grant through the firewall for Terraria. (I have windows defender). I loaded up a new world with a fresh character but I would crash after a certain amount of time. I checked Terraria for bad files through steam to find one. It didn't repair it so I deleted and reinstalled steam (moved steamapps to avoid redownload). Be aware I have redownload Terraria numerous times by now. It didn't crash now but I couldn't create new characters or worlds again and whenever I died I would crash. I have a GTX 1660 with Ryzen 5 2600. My drivers are up to date and I have already tried changing the "read only" stuff and whatnot.

Hello logan, are you getting an error message when you crash? If so, could you post it here?

If you aren't, I'd like you to activate error logging for Terraria.

1. Go to your Steam Library and right click Terraria; open up properties
2. On the General Tab, click Launch Options
3. In Launch Options, enter: -logerrors -logfile
4. Hit Ok

After this, the next time you crash, go to your Documents>My Games>Terraria>Logs folder and post the most recent log after the crash. You can also try to send it to me if there are issues posting it in here. Hopefully we can find the problem.

However, I suspect that it still may be related to Windows Defender, even though you changed its settings.

I put -logerrors -logfile and got it to crash on both the create world crash aswell as the death crash but there was no log folder in the Terraria folder within documents. There is no error message when I crash from dieing but there is from the create world/character. I will attach it to this thread

So this is 100% a file permissions issue. Whether it be running Terraria as administrator, or Windows Defender still blocking it, this issue is being caused because your PC is not allowing Terraria to save to its save folders.

We are looking for some workarounds to this, but this is ultimate something out of our control: we can't force Terraria to be able to edit your folders if your PC is preventing it. I would see what happens if you run with Windows Defender/other Anti-Virus programs off.

Ok, so good news I turned all of windows defender functions off and can create worlds and characters but the old characters and worlds are broken still. That's fine since I only had one character I used so I just transferred his stuff to a new character that didn't break. I used a copy of the world I played on to continue that world. Thank you so much I really appreciate the help!
