Game Mechanics Pinging Map

I would like to have the ability to ping the map so that other players in the server know where i am talking about.

The idea is that i would [press combination of buttons] to get a block or small set of blocks to be high lighted in the game and on the map and also have a subtle sound so that players know that there is a ping and where i am pinging.

could also be a way to have different colors and sounds depending on what you ping or how you ping, like in league of legends.
 
it may also be fun to have automated pinging. flip a switch, and a ping shows up else where in the world, like a specific kind of statue that is wired. (limit of 5 pings per player before it auto turns off so that it cannot get left on just to be annoying). this would be fun for custom puzzle maps.
