Playing a mod outside of tModLoader?

tModLoader isn't working for me right now (I get an error message saying that I need to make sure that Steam is running and logged in) and I would like to know if I can play mods (specifically Fargo's Souls Mod) without having to have tModLoader. Can I like manually install the mods and drag and drop the files into Terraria and make them work? Or will they only work with tModLoader? Any help is appreciated.

Do you own the vanilla Terraria on Steam or on GOG?

tmodloader changes some vanilla code and adds a lot of stuff for modders. you won't be able to do so unless you either redo tmod's code yourself, or completely rewrite fargo to fit in vanilla.you better find a way to fix tmodloader not working

I tried again on GOG and it works! Don't know what the problem was, but I guess it's fixed now.
