Other Potential Quality of Life Additions or Improvements

I’ve been going over some things as to what could potentially be added into the vanilla version of Terraria (Not Tmod Loader) for smaller potential future updates to the game as quality of life improvements.

I encourage everyone to chime in and give your thoughts on what you think could be added into the game. I would like to hear all of your inputs and ideas on what you think could be added into the vanilla version of Terraria. You can even bring in ideas from Tmod Loader that you think would be a good addition to vanilla Terraria.

Here are a few improvements/additions that I would personally like to see implemented into the game:

Journey Mode Favorites Tab:

Adding a new tab in the journey mode menu named “Favorites”. With the favorites tab, when you have a large amount of items researched or want to skip the tedious process of constantly retyping the same item names to restock your inventory, you can simply favorite any item you choose and it will be saved in your characters favorites tab to pick from, thereby skipping the process of scrolling and typing.

(I personally do Pixel Art using Gemspark Walls and Paint, so having this added into Journey Mode would save me a good bit of time from having to retype whenever I need to restock or I close my inventory screen).

“Light” Variant Paint Color:

In addition to the “Normal” and “Deep” variants of paint (E.g. Pink Paint, Deep Pink Paint, etc.), a lighter hue could be added (E.g. “Light Pink Paint”), which would allow more options to those who want to find the right color scheme to their designs, whether it be base building or pixel art.
A possible combination to create this paint type would be to use a Dye Vat and mix any normal non-deep color with white paint to get a “Light” color paint variant (E.g. “Pink Paint” + “White Paint” = “Light Pink Paint”).

During the course of making Pixel Art, I realized that the game was lacking in the lighter variant department and I had no choice but to try and make do with a paint type that would be as close as possible to look like what I was trying to achieve, so having a lighter color option would solve that issue for me.

Research & Development Checklist:

A helpful Quality of Life addition that can keep track of every item in the game as well as showing you what items you have and haven’t researched.

This would be very helpful to keep track of what items have been fully researched and what items haven’t been fully researched as well as finding new items you didn’t know about without checking the wiki.

Master Crafting Table:

A culmination of every crafting device in the game from work benches, anvils, and forges to Looms, dye Vats, and Sawmills.

Having all crafting devices condensed into a single placeable furniture item would save a lot of time and space instead of having everything spread out.

Bestiary Locked Entry Hints:

When you haven’t filled out all of the entries in the bestiary, it can be a bit tiresome trying to figure out what it is your missing or where to find them in the first place. Maybe adding in some kind of hint as to what the entry could be or where it could be found would help out a great deal.

Another good idea would be to add a “Buy Hint” option from the Zoologist so she can open up a hint on a random entry which can help you fill out the bestiary by showing you what kind of entry it is or where it could be found. This would save quite a bit of time so you don’t have to refer to the wiki page every time.

Quest Fish Fishbowls:

A new furniture item that utilizes the Quest Fish you need to get for the Angler. This would make the Quest Fish usable as decorations for building designs instead of just being an item to turn in for a quest.

Normally, you can put the Quest Fish on an Item Frame or a Weapon Rack, but it would look more aesthetically pleasing if you could turn it into a furniture decoration using a bottle or a Terrarium, similar to the critters and fish you can catch with the bug net.

Terra Wand of Sparking:

A new magic weapon referencing Harry Potter’s Elder Wand which could replace the Last Prism as the strongest mage weapon, or at least be the second strongest.

You will need the “Wand of Sparking” and upgrade it with various mage weapons similar to the Melee Classes “Zenith”.

I’ve always wanted a new endgame weapon for each class, and while Melee, Magic and Summoner have their respective weapons that you could consider endgame, Ranger doesn’t exactly live up to the DPS that the other classes can dish out.

Infinite Arrows & Bullets For All Ammo Types:

Rather than just having normal ammo being the ONLY infinite ammo, you can craft the same 3996 ammo types (Four full stacks of ammo) for the others (E.g. Chlorophyte, Luminite, etc.) and use the Crystal Ball to make an infinite ammo pouch/quiver for that type.

This would save time and space in both Normal mode and Journey Mode as it will eliminate the tedious work of mining up a ton of ore to turn it into ammo in Normal Mode and duplicating multiple copies of the ammo type in Journey Mode.

Hi!

I support the first two ideas:
  • A Journey Mode Favorites Tab would be pretty useful for anyone playing the game.
  • A light paint variant color would fit for many builders who don't feel like the color + block type they use are enough to satisfy them.
There could be some work for the others, though.

My Input on Research & Development:

On one hand, the idea of adding the Research & Development Checklist is okay, but it's more integral to the game in my opinion if not every item in the game could be displayed in the checklist; Instead, only items that have been researched, yet not to the point where duplication is allowed, should be displayed.

For example, let's say a player has researched 100/100 Stone Blocks, 40/100 Wood, and 0/100 Red Bricks. Only Stone Blocks and Wood would be displayed in this case. Red bricks would not be displayed on the checklist, as it is assumed that the player has not discovered Red Bricks in the game yet.

On the other hand, limiting the checklist to only items that have at least been researched once defeats the point of the original suggestion, which was to keep track of what items haven't been discovered and researched yet.

My Input on Quest Fish Fishbowls:

Even though this is a cool feature, it would take up too much space. There are around 41 Quest Fish items in the game, so adding this feature would add 41 new items to the already 5124 (as of 1.4.3) items the game already has.

Other than that, this idea is cool. Builders can have a bit more creativity with this feature, and there would be a secondary use for Quest Fish.

In summary, the first two ideas are really useful for builders and pixel artists. I find the other suggestions good, but there should be some changes made to make some of them more integral to the purpose of the game.
