Weapons & Equip Prime's Laser: A post skeletron-prime Magic gun!

this is the og prime laser, which is apart of skeletron's sprite! Just simplify it, and we're good to go!

Ngl, it would be a pretty fun magic counterpart to the flamethrower. I think if it were placed as more of a meme item than a laser machinegun upgrade it could fit well into the game. The twins have their own summon, and it would be cool to see skele prime and the destroyer get their own weapons (correct me if I am wrong but the twins staff is the only themed mech boss weapon).

This sounds really cool, but there's a common issue with post-Mech Weapons that put them in an odd position.
  1. Hallowed Gear is actually pretty darn good already, it got a ton of love in the previous updates.
  2. Most skilled vets will likely, already have a good offensive option by the time they fight the Mechs, with Weapons like Stormbow, Blades Staff and Dart Rifle.
  3. A TON of stuff opens up post-Destroyer, to include Chlorophyte and the DD2 Gear.
  4. The only benefit I see... is if this Magic Gun [if this is simply to buff Mage Class] somehow doesn't trample on other Magic Weapons as an obvious choice, but the best I got is perhaps the Player needing the Laser Rifle and a Black Lens as a crafting requirement? That way it's similar to the Twins Staff, but also isn't a direct, obvious upgrade?
It's such a weird position to be in, because by now, most Vets know to go for the Evil Mimics or something similar, but making the Weapon that strong could pose a problem with progression. I don't know, sounds cool on paper, but a nightmare to implement in practice... 😬🤷‍♀️

the last part makes a bit of sense, ill add the laser rifle to the craft but the black lens is used for twins staff so instead maybe we use a rare bone item instead, like maybe the marrow?
Honestly, I'm not even sure if this is a viable enough solution to the problem you'll be faced with, I'm just spitballing it.
  • Should Prime's Magic Gun be stronger than, weaker than, or equal to Biome Mimic weapons, and by how much?
  • If weaker, what tier? Should it be superior to, slightly better than, or simply on par (but have a unique effect that sets it apart) with other Hallowed Weapons?
  • Is the crafting recipe that's settled on, reasonable enough to justify the tier that Prime's Magic Gun is eventually placed, and if so, how does it compare to other Magic Weapons post-Mech?
I'm not sure about the rare ingredient either, whatever it ends up being, it'll have to match with the Weapons effectiveness, if it's just good, then I'd assume it shouldn't be much harder to craft then the Optic Staff is [...keep calling it Twins Staff]. If it's really good, then that complicates things a bit, because you'd want it to be Plantera viable, and likely "decent" against Golem, at best, but likely no more than that-that's about where the Biome Mimic's Weapons drop-off as well IMHO.

I guess the best measurement would be Prime's Magic Gun vs OOA tier 2, however good it is against that Event, also says alot about if it's worth crafting or not. 😬 🤷‍♀️

biome mimics are fightable before good ol primed skelly, so it'll be better. It'll be viable for mages, but wont absolutely shred everything, it'll pierce a small bit so it'll prob be good for destroyer.

just needs to be comparable to Rainbow Rod. Make it stronger to make up for the lack of homing/piercing and that's it

introducing an alternative to a weapon in the same tier of progression isn't going to cause any balance issues

That's actually pretty clever, because that also pretty much solves the crafting issue, it'd pretty much be something like:
  • 1 Laser Rifle
  • 10-20 [bone themed items]
  • 8 Souls of Night
  • 15 Souls of Might Fright
