Make sure there are no places for mobs to spawn underneath the ground. If there are mobs hidden underground in little air pockets you can't see, that will slow spawns down. Make sure you go digging around in there and fill in any air pockets and tiny caves you see with blocks to make sure that all mobs that spawn, spawn on the surface.

I did my own Pumpkin Moon run but it only went until Wave 13/14, close though
