Other PVP and Terraria Servers

First off, pvp needs to become a priority in this game. Sure, pve is fun and all, but with no real competition, this game will only attract casuals, which isn't always a bad thing, but neither is it good.

Second, with over 20 million copies sold, I know you guys have the resources to host servers with mini game and the ability to code it to reload/regenerate new maps with designated game modes.

Third, I realize that you leave your game open to modding, because why not, modding is cool and stuff. But to rely on a 3rd party to create simple admin commands/controls is really mind boggling when you could have easily added that as part of some of the updates.

I could elaborate further if these even gains any attention.

The game's focus isn't on pvp so why does it suddenly have to become a priority.

I'm not sure 'casuals' is an applicable term here. Terraria attracts all sorts of people: builders, explorers, achievers and socialiser, to name the main ones. If they're are 'casuals', then the hardcore or competitive (or whatever you want to call them) players who do not fit any of those groups are a very small group indeed. And quite honestly, I think it's fair to say that Terraria may just not be the game for them; after all, a game doesn't have to cater to every single player type (and as you say yourself, Terraria has managed to sell 20 million copies not doing that).

Money is a resource, yes, but so is time, and no matter how much copies you sell, there's never going to be more than twenty-four hours in a day.

What I am getting at is that while Re-Logic may be able to afford an entire server network with mini-games money wise (or at least invest in it), that still needs to be designed, developed and maintained, which takes a huge amount of man hours, which a small team like Re-Logic simply doesn't have.
Third, I realize that you leave your game open to modding, because why not, modding is cool and stuff. But to rely on a 3rd party to create simple admin commands/controls is really mind boggling when you could have easily added that as part of some of the updates.
Easy is relative. Terraria was never written to accommodate modding, and trying to make such a game moddable afterwards is time consuming at best.

Then why pvp/teams in game?

Hire more people.

My point exactly. Should be built in base version of the game.

Then why pvp/teams in game?
It's a small feature, it doesn't need to be fully fleshed out to add something to the game.

Terraria also has fishing mechanic, but it isn't an in-depth (no pun intended) fishing simulator, nor should it strive to be (at least in my opinion).
Hire more people.
I'll just say "it's not that simple" and leave it at that.

Perhaps, but you can't go back in time and urge Redigit to accommodate for mod support as he's writing the game.

  1. PvP is there because people wanted PvP. However, Relogic put it in there for the sake of "Ey there's these guys who really want PvP lets add it to appease them and possible attract more people to play our game" and not "PvE was a terrible idea lets switch to PvP"
  2. Hiring people takes time and costs money. There are probably tons of people who got an interview already to work at Relogic and failed. There are very specific qualifications and there aren't many people who have those qualifications. Even though Terraria is pretty big, it isn't big big like something like World of Warcraft or League of Legends or Final Fantasy. Basically they can't hire more people at the snap of a finger.
  3. PvP is not their main focus and will never be. PvP is there for the sake of there being PvP and Terraria is mainly a singleplayer game. Multiplayer is not their main focus either.

You don't have to support my point of view. I'm here to make suggestions, which you don't have to knock. If you don't agree with them, then move on. :D

$200,000,000+ be hard to find the right person

Is not mainly a single player game.

But we can still criticize your suggestions. Nothing would ever improve if everyone ignored things they don't like.
Positively, yes. But you're completely knocking my suggestions.

There's also the problem if the person even WANTS to work for Relogic. Plus, most of those people are already taken by bigger fish/companies. There's also the problem of how they act in the workplace. Even if you're the smartest man alive, you won't be hired if you're also the most toxic :red:head in the world.

It is mainly a singleplayer game. You CAN play with friends but the majority choose to play solo.

We aren't knocking your suggestions. We're stating our opinions on every part.

Well, personally, I enjoy multiplayer games, both co-op and versus. I like both aspects of this game but feel that since pvp is a part of the game, albeit in a very small way, that it should have been as big a priority as every other aspect of the game. Otherwise, why even add it, which is my point entirely.

In my opinion, I think that Relogic added PVP because there's multiplayer, why not make it so players can fight each other if they want to? I don't really think that it should have a major role in the game because some people don't like to play PVP, and some people can't even play at all. So, I'm going to have to say no support on this one.

No support from you maybe. But I have a discord serve with 60+ people that was just created a week or so ago that would have to disagree with you.

but with no real competition
cough cough it's a pve game cough
this game will only attract casuals
wow god forbid people try to play the game the way it was designed to be played and not to
DESTROY EVERYONE AT HARDCORE PVP COMBAT
servers with mini game
Honestly... meh. Mini games aren't the focus of this game and were really never meant to be. Same with PVP.

As for more commands, I suppose that could be interesting. I'd really like the ability to control the weather and teleport players around without mods.
