Random Roleplay Discussions

Fluxxation

The Axe
This thread is designed to not talk about one specific roleplay, but simply any and all of them. It always seems like the wrong place when you just have long chats in the OOC of your favorite roleplay, or when you start telling the entirety of TLPW about your next character, so why not talk about that here instead?

All the obvious forum rules apply here.

Have fun, roleplayers!

Hi @Godfrey 🪓🪓🪓 instead of having this in the Off Topic section, I think it’s fine to have it in the RP section (so I’ve moved it there). :)

(:MudkipSigh:, the third episode (I dare the staff to make MudkipSigh an actual emote here so I can use it, if needed I could probably make an animated version of the icon I'm referring to))
(Unit this is like the third time I make an exception because my mind will commit murder if I don't say something.)
Ehhhh... I feel like this is unneeded. The thing about TLPW is that it's MEANT to be for whatever (Within forum rules), and the nice thing about it is that even if not many others actually join the OC/lore discussion, they might still be interested or even end up looking into RPs and lore because of it. Moving those discussions here would take that away, meaning people that would have checked the RP section after hearing about it in TLPW end up not doing so because they didn't hear about it.
And OOC threads are, again, meant to be for long discussions regarding the RP it's for, it isn't just meant for applications. How do you think RJITU's OOC got its hundreds of pages, do you think all of those posts were either applications or art of characters? Because no, most of those posts end up going into planning, silly comments, and other related shenanigans that don't belong in the IC.

While all of that is valid…

I think rp related posts themselves in TLPW just shoo away some people from posting if they have no idea what’s happening and don’t want to say something entirely random just so they can be part of the conversation. In-fact, the random roleplay discussion in TLPW was what made me consider not being a long term TCF member. While the posts did intrigue me a bit, it just sorta turned me off because I had no idea what any of it meant and didn’t wanna randomly interject. I only ended up staying because I looked into the RP section on my own time.

And the reason I don’t think mass posting in the OOC is a good idea is something similar. If all that goes on there is constant joking or otherwise not serious conversation, then it’s just more junk for a new person to go through before actually getting to the details they want to see in-case they’re wanting to join. Perhaps they want to see a some character submissions or actual real discussion of the current plot? You can only see so much of that by looking at the first post, and hell, the “plot summary” which some roleplays have could be misleading, outdated, or otherwise incorrect. I find it much easier to look at the recent plot related posts to give myself a better idea of the plot.

In summary, I made this so OOCs and TLPW wouldn’t be clogged with silly or random RP posts so that those who want to either avoid the RP section, or join, but are turned off by the pile of content to dig through, could both have their ways.

Nobody said you have to post here either. It’s not like this suddenly is going to replace all the other postings.

Not to mention, ideally I want this to hopefully give some people exposure to new roleplays and maybe diversify some groups by adding new characters to RPs.

That's why for OOCs, the info should generally already be in the first post, and is why character lists are useful.

Not going to comment on the TLPW comment because I'm multitasking too hard.

I’m not sure if you fully read but..

The summary usually either: isn’t, is there, but way too summarized for a new person to understand, is outdated, or is too focused on the present to outline other important events a new person would need to know.

Ok.

At which point the best option for the person is to ask about stuff they should know.

But that could take them just as long to get a response as it would to search through all the junk posts. Its not a guarantee of a quick solution.

Not to mention some people may not want to be known if they just want to check the plot of an RP? I personally wouldn’t want to ask for a summary and then say “sorry, I don’t think this is for me.” And then not join, it just seems like a waste of time.

And what if you’re on a guest account and are considering naming a forum account for the RP? You obviously can’t ask then.

As resident toaster gremlin, I approve of this place.

At that point just read parts of the IC. An OOC is simply made for containing more than applications.

But reading the IC at the wrong time is just pages of fighting. This has happened to me many times, and I don’t care to spend a gold half hour sifting through the pages to try and piece together a slowly moving plot.

An OOC is for more than applications, but if it’s no longer serous discussion, it’s just a hinderance.

Allow me to add my opinion here. I've personally decided against joining some things I otherwise might have because of stuff like dis. Clearly I'm not everyone, so others don't share me experience. But at the end of the day, if I gotta dig through 12 pages of memes just to  start understanding something, its just... not worth it to me.

I do feel that OOCs should be able to have a level of off-topic posting, but I have also seen times where it goes too far and people are roleplaying more in the OOC than the IC.
Though, I also thought that other threads existed for this?

If there were, I’m pretty sure they’re dead.

My idea was to make one that gains enough traction to last.

And once again, if this thread isn’t your thing, nobody says you have to post here, you can keep posting in your OOC or TLPW, it’s not like this is the “new meta”, just a diversion of some posts.

Specifically, I want to start using this with my roleplays whenever something silly and stupid is going on, since I have very long winded and complex plots driving mine. Once it gets going too, it’ll be way harder to actually make sense of what’s occured.

That’s mainly why I made this, but I can see others getting plenty out of it too.

I like the concept of this place, at least.

After beating base NG of AC6 I want an AC RP thread.

I approve of this message

But how would we get more people to join? We can’t just allow all characters.. they would kind of have to fit the canon and be ACs and all that jazz…

DIBS ON RUSTY AHAHAHHAHAHA

I thought there's maybe a thread for 'what kind of roleplays do you want to see' in off topic
