NPCs & Enemies Retinara - trap-like Underground Corruption enemy

CrimsHallowHero

Terrarian
I want to propose adding to Terraria one of absolutely genius pieces of game design I stumbled upon when playing The End is Nigh.

Retinara

It is an enemy which casts a ray which tracks player in line of sight with perfect accuracy. However initially ray doesn't deal any damage. After a short delay (3 seconds) if player is still in line of sight, Retinara attacks with the ray and then puts its attack on cooldown which prevents both tracking and attacking for a brief moment (2 seconds). If line of sight is broken, attack delay is reset. Retinara is unable to track or attack players for whom it is not on screen.
While tracking ray slowly changes its color from dim purple (3 seconds left) to bright magenta (1 second left) then quickly turns white and simultaneosly become thicker. When attacking the ray spawns white sparks and lightning-like graphic projectile along its way to target.

Retinaras spawn in Underground Corruption midair and float slowly up and down near their original spawn point. It could also spawn attached to ceilings and walls and thus stay stationary and receive 100% KB resist.

Original enemy sprite from TEIN:

My attempt to reinterpret it in Terraria (Retinara in idle state with half-closed eye and while tracking player with ray):

Since the original enemy is themed around post-apocalypse cancerous tumor growths, making its Terraria counterpart a Corruption enemy seem to fit well.

Stats
HP: 330 / 660 / 990
Damage (contact): 40 / 80 / 120
Damage (charged ray): 100 / 200 / 300
Defence: 35
KB Resist: 90% / 91% / 92%

Drops
Silver coins (6 / 15 / 15): 100%
Meat grinder: 0.5%
Cursed Flame (2-5): 100%
(optional) Morbid Gear: 5%
(optional) Massacre Blaster: 5%

Special drops are completely optional and are just icing on the cake. Retinara may drop only 1 of them or none at all.

Morbid Gear
retinara morbid gear.png
Permanent power-up. Increases rope climbing and descending speed by 300%. Toggleable.

Massacre Blaster
retinara blaster massacre.png
Damage: 75 (Magic)
Crit: 14%
Knockback: 7
Mana: 12
Use time: 30
Autoreuse: true (for both attacks, see below)
Velocity (effective): 60
Shoots purple lasers on left click which hit up to 5 enemies.
Right click charges Retinara-like ray attack: upon pushing right mouse button enemy closest to cursor is locked on and automatically tracked by non-damaging ray, after 2 seconds (x4 of actual use time) charge ray instantly damages all enemies along the way to main target including target itself, dealing x5 damage and spending x3 mana. Like with Retinara's attack, breaking line of sight would reset the timer. Releasing right mouse button would also interrupt attack.

Awwwesome

I don’t think it needs a drop. Permanent upgrades— especially toggleable ones— should be kept at a minimum to avoid UI clutter. Other than that, I do like the concept.

Agreed but maybe weapon. ? A magic staff that shoots a piercing beam ?

Maybe a laser pointer-esque thing that— every few seconds, shoots a powerful shot?

Would need a Crimson equivalent though.

Yea not a problem just make the crimson one a artery

I thought about adding a magic weapon first which would mimic Retinara's attack pattern. However I couldn't make a sprite for it.

Added Massacre Blaster to drops pool in the OP.

Maybe a bit overloaded to have 2 drops. I think throwing all the relevant ideas here fits the suggestion genre. Of course, if implemented, any numbers may be changed and any of the constituent parts may be dropped for sake of balance, simplicity or fitness for the game.
