NPCs & Enemies Sclerepugnant - Crimson themed Spazmatism for Crimson Worlds!

Is this a Good Suggestion?

Spazmatism isn't focused on melee, so Sclerepugnant shouldn't be.

IN MY OPINION he is, especially when he goes into his second phase. I mean, his rush attack, wow much attack. Though i ain't trying to sneeze anger germs on you and start a argument.

Now that look at it, Spazmatism does have the impossible-to-dodge cursed inferno attack that started this whole thing

Rip melee that dont have a beam sword. or any long range thing that does melee damage

Guys why just not make spazmatism fire something other than cursed flames? It would avoid all of this!
(although I like the sprite)

Why everyone find spazmatism flamethrower to be so hard to avoid? I'm sorry but it's very-easy-to-dodge!

Slow down a teensy bit and you get damage equal to the mew truck's rumors. And if melee doesn't have a beam sword... they are screwed... Boomerangs help a bit, sure, but you still have to be pretty close. Best boomerangs at that point (at least i think) are the Light Disks and Bananarangs. If you didn't beat the destroyer, Light Disks are out of the question. And banananrangs are pretty rare for me.

Though, this is just my opinion

Okay I can understand… I guess yoyos can do the trick too? It's just that as I killed them with rangers I didn't give any chance to spazmatism ever cathing me during 2nd phase…

Some people find different attacks hard to dodge
I personally suck at dodging large or excessive projectiles (destroyer in expert mode for example, it's a lot of lasers)

I can understand that. I choosed to put all I had into mobility and long range fights so I rarely get hit… but when I do it hurts (well not as much a mage though).

First of all, sorry for necroing the thread - and for being away for a long while! Not going to lie, I pretty much forgot about our (Me and Sergo's) counterpart eye!
I've read the 'recent' replies, and I'd like to clear some misconceptions;
  • Why isn't Sclerepugnant melee based?
This is, we initially envisioned Sclerepugnant to be the missing play-style that the two already existing eyes follow. Retinazer does use Lazer (ranged) attacks and Spazmatism uses mostly melee attacks. Sure, he does shoot out fire from his first phase, but if I recall correctly (it's been a long time!) he does attack you by charging. Same thing applies in his second phase. There is confusion about his flamethrower attack in his second phase, which is treated as ranged. So, I believe that Sclerepugnant and Spazmatism could share a mixture of ranged attacks, and then each do attacks for the other playstyle (Melee for Spaz, Magic for Sclere).
But what about Summoner attacks? Well, we left that up for the eye of Cthulhu ;) .
  • The sprites could really use some work.
True. They're far for being perfect. Well, there has been some disagreement over what they should be - The fight tactics are hard to agree on, hence why I've left the 'Community Fight Tactics' section in the main thread. Without a set of tactics, how can we possibly decide on the spirte?
  • The name isn't fitting.
I also agree. Sclerepugnant is the first name we came up with by trying to enforce the naming rules according to Retinazer and Spazmatism. A lot of Terrarians didn't agree and that shows. I have promised to change the name in the past but I never did; I always forgot to come back and do so. I will be adding all the proposed names for Sclerepugnant in the main post (with credit, of course!) and we can see how we can go from there. Perhaps we can do a poll if the community wants to.
  • The whole idea is just an over exaggeration.
Well, that's acceptable as well. If I put myself in your shoes I can see that. The whole Triplets thing, the sprites, the trophies - All that for a boss that doesn't contribute much in the game as of new updates. The idea dates waaaay back. Back in the old TerrariaOnline days. Some of the Sprites sergo gave me date back in March of 2014. The 1.3 update was not released back then and our perception for these bosses, which were the last bosses you could defeat years ago meant something to us. The introduction of Crimson made us question whether it should be a true alternative to corruption. So that's how we decided we had to make another eye - for the alternative purpose. It's the same reason we will get corruption themed furtniture in 1.4, even though we have had Flesh (crimson) ones for years.

Long post, I'm going to have to call it an end here. Thank you all for your feedback on our crimson eye!

NOTICE:
  • Before I start, I have searched and haven't found another thread like this, so if you do please inform me, thank you. There was an old thread about this long ago; I asked one of the moderators (Loki ISP) to delete it so I can remake it again. The reasoning behind this action was the addition of new sprites and overhauling the concept.
  • The idea has been finalized and no more additions will be included. If possible, adjust your votes.
  • Please don't complain about a Hardmode Brain of Cthulhu variant for the Crimson or other bosses except The Twins. This is a Twins related thread, so anything irrelevant to the topic should be avoided.
  • So, it seems that we have 450+ "Yes" votes, and over 30K views. I'd like to thank all of you, for supporting the concept of Sclerepugnant; a crimson Spazmatism! If you'd like to spread Sclerepugnant throughout the forums, try attaching the support banner in your signature.

This Suggestion is all about adding a Crimson Variant of Spazmatism. Sclerepugnant (the Crimson eye) will have a unique Expert mode Bag, a unique trophy, and mask. Also, the Spawners' and Optic Staff's mechanics have been changed, spawning the eyes depending on your world's evil biome. There's of course, a small cross-content expansion of the idea, featuring a Spawner for all 3 eyes, and an Optic Staff for all three.

INTRODUCTION:
"...so, Matt was ready to fight The Twins, the two legendary beasts which are known to never separate, always haunting towns and villages with their presence. With his trusty Golden Shower, a magical tome capable of summoning a damaging stream of ichor which is the quintessence of Crimson, he was waiting for the night to fall. The time was approaching and Matt was having second thoughts about the fight. Matt becomes unsure, and would have been conquered with fear had it not been for Gilbert the Merchant to remind him of the profits of the fight. So he decides to summon them. He's quickly surprised to see an eye with a green iris which shoots green flames. "WOAH!", he said before drawing his Golden Shower, "Look at that weird thing..."". Let's pause the story right here.

Matt has a Crimson World, and Spazmatism is Corruption themed. This doesn't make sense! Shouldn't the game have a Crimson-themed Spazmatism? With every update, the game gets a facelift in certain areas, including Crimson, such as the crimson seeds which weren't included in the final 1.2 update. These two evil biomes are not supposed to be the same, but they are closely alike. They can't be on the same world naturally unless the player interferes. So, Corruption shouldn't interfere in Crimson worlds like that, and the Crimson not being able to do so.
This is a suggestion to change that, via adding an alternative to Spazmatism, that will spawn in Crimson only worlds. Sclerepugnant will be a counterpart to Spazmatism, with different movement, attack patterns, drops and design.

Main Part of the Idea:
Name:
According to the wiki:
  • Retinazer's name is a portmanteau of retina, a part of the eye, and laser.
  • Spazmatism's name is a portmanteau of astigmatism, an eye disorder, and spasm, meaning to twitch uncontrollably.
  • Sclerepugnant's name is a portmanteau of sclera, a part of the eye and repugnant which means disgusting.
You can suggest a better name if you want, but it must be compatible to the criteria. (a part of the eye + any word, preferably something disgusting?)

Changes:

Mechanical Eye
Mechanical_Eye.png

  • The Mechanical Eye now alters the The Twins depending on your World's Evil Biome. Corruption worlds only allow Spazmatism and Crimson worlds only allow Sclerepugnant. Retinazer spawns no matter what. The spawner has the same drop chances from enemies.
The Optic Staff
k5A3Qmj.png
(Minion Sclerepugnant Sprite:
5XS7h6x.gif
)
  • The Optic Staff now summons minions which depend on the evil biome of the World. This means that, no matter what, you can't summon a Sclerepugnant minion in Corruption worlds and obviously a Spazmatism minion in Corruption worlds with the Optic Staff.
  • However @Kefke has another idea on this:
Sclerepugnant trophy

10% (Inventory, placed)

  • If you fight Spazmatism and Retinazer you get the Cursed Twins Mask: 14.29%
    v1URjgn.png
  • If you fight Sclerepugnant and Retinazer you get the Bloody Twins Mask: 14.29%

and on Expert Mode:

Fight Tactics:

1st Form: He hovers above where Spazmatism would normally be, shooting Ichor streams at the player. He shoots five of them in Normal Mode and six in Expert Mode . They deal about 35 damage each(65 damage each in Expert Mode) and inflict Ichor for 10 seconds(20 seconds in Expert Mode). He is less strict about where he is in relationship to the player while shooting these streams of Ichor. He follows this up with medium distance charges that deal about 50 damage(80 damage in Expert Mode).
2nd Form: He moves towards the player shooting a stream of Ichor that has frequent breaks in it. This one is unaffected by gravity. This deals about 55 damage(95 in Expert Mode) and inflicts Ichor for 12 seconds(24 seconds). He follows this up with fast long distance charges that deal 70 damage(120 in Expert Mode).

CROSS-CONTENT EXPANSION: ("Bringing the Corruption and the Crimson together!")
The main idea is to add Sclerepugnant, a Mask, a Trophy, and an Expert Mode Bag Variation. The idea could be expanded to include cross-content between Corruption and Crimson if the player interferes by crafting the following Spawner; which requires Cursed Flames and Ichor.
NOTE: This is a fun part of the idea, an 'expansion' to the main one (only Sclerepugant) encouraging players to connect the biomes. Depending on your style of play, you either acquire or ignore these items. I am not really supporting this part as it makes the Twins have more meaning than the other Mechanical Bosses.

"The Vision" summons all three eyes at once, despite of your world's evil biome. All the eyes have their normal stats without any new fight techniques or buffs. This spawner cannot be dropped by any type of enemy and must be crafted. The recipe is as follows. The ichor and cursed flame requirement exists because of normal gameplay limitation reasons, as both materials cannot be gathered in one world with a specific evil biome.

Fight Drops:
In this section there are also comparisons between the normal Twins fight drops and the "The Vision" fight drops. The numbers colored in brownish orange are expert mode related.
  • Souls of Sight

Other than containing all of the drops above in expert mode, it also includes "The Seer"
    FkBuGDH.png
staff, with a chance of 100%. The Seer Staff spawns all three minion eyes, despite the World's Evil Biome. The base damage of the Staff in comparison with the Optic Staff has been lowered from 30 to 23 because of the mechanics of the weapon. Achievement Information:
Here's how some achievements will be affected.
Achievement_Buckets_of_Bolts.png
Buckets of Bolts: Defeat the three nocturnal mechanical menaces: the Twins, the Destroyer and Skeletron Prime. Any of the two spawners count.
Achievement_Mecha_Mayhem.png
Mecha Mayhem: Do battle against the Twins, the Destroyer, and Skeletron Prime simultaneously and emerge victorious. Any of the spawners count.
Achievement_Slayer_of_Worlds.png
Slayer of Worlds: Defeat every boss in Terraria. "The Vision" isn't really supported by the main idea, but I'd prefer if it was included in this achievement.

CONCLUSION:
So, to sum it all up, I really think that this should be added. Even though the Twins have a Mario Bros theme and have been the same since the Hardmode update in Terraria, I do believe that it is time to change. About the Cross-Content expansion, I'm not really keen on it being an important part of the game, but I added it for fun. If you are really ready to write a comment/reply, consider the main part more. So, after all the work I redid, as suggested, the idea is much simpler to put your eye to.
Did you get that pun? No? Ok. -Wizard.
Thanks for checking out Sclerepugnant :D

Hope either this gets added to the game or someone make a mod out of this

I love this idea. I'm not really a big fan of the triplet thing, but maybe to make it unique between crimson and corrupt Twins there could be some kind of extra cursed flamethrower for corruption worlds and another unique one for crimson worlds?

I see no reason to do this Spazmatism is not a Corruption boss. The only thing he has in common with the Corruption is his Cursed Flame attack but you can't make a flamethrower with ichor and not to mention how hard this would be for the devs. Making a alternative to Spazmatism will be extremely hard because they will have to rewrite the recipe for the mechanical eye and allow it to sense what the original evil biome is. They would also have to make Plantera's Bulb's spawn requirements change. This will most likely cause quite a few massive bugs and a ton of more minor bugs.

THREE BIG IDEAS! Okay
1. make the sclerepungant iris in the first form constantly spin, spinning faster when shooting ichor and when charging the ram have the sclera (the white part of the eye) spin in the opposite direction of the pupil/eyeris (iris)!
2. name the sclerepungent the "cornelegm" words part of eye = cornea gross thing = phlegm
3. the cornelegm should not shoot beams, it should spray ichor, and i the second phase it should do a giant beam of ichor, drowning the player really fast and doing extra damage from the force of the ichor, the giant beam would last for 5 whole seconds.( art coming up! )

Like I said eairly it is not a good idea. I even forgot something, Crimson cane after hardmode that is why there is no crimson eye!

The fact people had put time and work into this. 1. Sprites look amazing. 2. I would play this ( i already play terraria but if it were a mod) Finally 3. The idea seems as it needs just a few tweeks here and there -i love the idea. :cslime:

Hey! No need to be mean! If you are unsure on what I mean I am talking about my boss Galactic Peril.
That wasn’t my intent. I completely forgot about GP, and I just meant that it’s always a treat to encounter a new boss, so long as it makes sense in the game. A crimson eye would be fun, as it would make it so that more than literally 1 enemy in the entire game inflicts ichor.

Ha got you there 2 enemies already inflict ichor. Ichor Sticker and Tainted Ghoul
