Can be great fun whether solo or with friends.
One of my favourite multiplayer experiences was playing the map moon troopers (where you fight an opposing team for conquest of resources on the map) with a number of other forum goer's as well as the maps creator.
Ambushing enemies and working together to gather the resources before the other team was a complete blast, and it never gets old swinging a phase blade at someones face haha ;p
Overall they can be a fun experience as you try to figure out challenges and puzzles setup by other people.
If you're looking for a casual fun time or something to compete against your friends with then there is a plethora of old custom maps that probably still work out pretty well. Even better would be to create your own experience to share!
