The main things I've played in SMBX are the Super Talking Time Bros stuff and the A Super Mario Brothers X Thing stuff.

Never got too far in them, though. I am hilariously bad at Mario, aha.

drain.

I think it would have the same mechanics BUT a different look and theme.

So copyright is out of question, I think.

The reson why smbx wascancled was becauseRedigit was trying to make money off smb and thats against copyright laws, nothing to do with anything else.

I used to play smbx since the first relase on mfgg... Had a lot of fun with the level editor, made tons of levels and was active on the french smbx community... I have lost interest in this game since a good moment... I may get back to it someday who knows... I had tons of unfinished episodes :p

I don't even know what this is.
It's redigit's old game. :p
It was a huge mario fangame that blended elements from many mario games and even other nintendo liscences. The interesting thing about this game is the expensive and complete level editor who allowed people to make tons of levels to expand the game...

Sadly, red discountinued the developpement because of issues with nintendo..

Ah, the "evil Nintendo shut down SMBX for no reason!" thing arises again.

Let's clear out how Copyright, in most cases, works:

- Using someone's copyrighted characters/objects/words for your thing (artwork, literature, fangame) is usually permitted.
- Using someone's copyrighted characters/objects/words for your thing which you get money from is, usually, breaking the copyright laws.

Despite a rather popular "true" I've heard quite a lot of times, Nintendo wasn't the evil bastardly greedy company who shut down an innocent fangame for no reason. It was just bringing down the Copyright hammer where it is perfectly legal to do so. I'm not a fan of Nintendo (or any other big company) but why making up evils when they have plenty of evils you can use against them already?

I've played SMBX - after playing Terraria, though - and it was okay. May check this fangame later. (Fangame of a fangame, fangameception!)

I was found SMBX accidentally, in 2013'th year. I doesn't care about them, but when I started to play large episodes and tried to make new levels, I found lots of annoying bugs. Game and it's engine is perfect and great, but slow working and eating much CPU because software graphics render are annoying. After one week after meet with SMBX I learned about it's shutdowning in 2011'th year when I tried to found official site of them. In December 2013 I began my own C++ project to make similar game engine, but without SMBX's bugs, cross-platform, with hardware OpenGL acceleration, and under GNU GPLv3. I like this game, and I wanna make it better, more flexible and free from copyright threats!
