Solar Cultist?

After seeing the solar cultist outfit sold by the by the clothier, I was very interested. After looking around and asking people, I found out that it was going to fight alongside the lunatic cultist. Does anyone know why it was removed, or if they’re planning something else with it in the future?

No news has been released about this iirc, perhaps they didn't want endgame to be too convoluted?

There actually exists solar cultists as in-game npcs. They just can't spawn naturally, only through using cheats or mods.
Well, the developers themselves said that Moon Lord is going to stay as the final boss forever. It's very unlikely that the solar cultists will be used in future updates.
So i guess, this is just like the Chattering Teeth Bomb, planed to be used in Solar Eclipse even but got abandoned. Now it just stays in game files because why not?
