Weapons & Equip Solving the Hardmode Yo-Yo Inventory Spam

So anybody who has ever farmed Golem knows how annoying Yelets can be sometimes.

You set up shop in Golem's Room and 10 or so minutes later, you've got an inventory full of Yelets. Amaroks can sometimes fall into this category as well, and if you're someone who loves Fire Wings, you might have seen this with the Hel-Fire.

Here's my suggestion:

Change it so that crafting material for the yo-yos drop instead of the yo-yo itself. That way, these will stack since weapons cannot stack.

Here's some example recipes:

Amarok: White String + 4x Frozen Shard at Mythril/Orichalcum Anvil
Hel-Fire: White String + 4x Molten Shard at Mythril/Orichalcum Anvil
Yelets: White String + 4x Turtle Shell Fragments at Mythril/Orichalcum Anvil
Frost Core: 4x Frozen Shard at Mythril/Orichalcum Anvil
Magma Stone: 4x Molten Shard at Mythril/Orichalcum Anvil
Turtle Shell: 4x Turtle Shell Fragments at Mythril/Orichalcum Anvil

Note: The Shards are used to make the Core/Stone/Shell, not the other way around! The Shards are dropped by enemies in the same way Yo-Yos are currently dropped.

The Frozen Shard, Molten Shard, and Turtle Shell Fragments would sell for 1-1.5g each to vendor and stack to 99, and have 2x better drop rate than the yo-yos do currently. Since you need 4 of them, it would take you twice as long to obtain the yo-yo.

This will do several things:

1). It will make the Amarok and Hel-Fire slightly harder to get (requiring you to get some Hardmode Ore first)
2). Alleviate inventory spam
3). Give you alternative ways of getting Frost Cores, Magma Stones, and especially Turtle Shells if you have RNG issues with obtaining those items.

YES. PLEASE.

It's brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, I tell you, genius, I say!

Kill two birds with one stone? Xylia, that stone is an avian murderer.

I like this idea.
We need this to happen.

Or just lower their droprate by a lot. But I can agree with the fact that they drop waaaay too often.

We still want them.
Just not spewed them.

I never really cared for the yoyo spam but this would be something I'd love to see happen.
I don't see the Frozen shard change necessary though. It's really easy to get them IMO

Dividing the cores/shells/etc into shards is a bit too far though. Just have the hardmode crafting ingredients allow you to make the Yo-yos that currently drop from enemies, since frost cores, turtle shells, etc all stack.

I think it would be better like this. My suggestion would be to change the crafting recipe for a wooden Yo-Yo. Instead, how about having cobwebs and copper/tin bars craft a Threaded Axle onto which you can attach things to make a new Yo-yo. The wooden Yo-yo would then be crafted from the Threaded Axle and some wood, for instance.

My favoured idea is rather than having the entire Yo-yo drop, just have something like Yelets/Amarok/Hel-Fire Halves drop instead. That way they could be stacked to sensible numbers if you're a hoarder and wouldn't clutter your inventory. And since the Threaded Axle would be a very cheap pre-hardmode item [possibly with no value at all], you could have the Yo-yo halves be priced at the same value as the finished current Yo-yos without causing any difference to them as selling fodder.

This would bring the Yo-yos in line with something already existing in the game. Wings! Wings craft from a certain item and souls of flight, generally. The Threaded Axle would be to the Yo-yos what souls of flight are to wings.

Note: I don't know whether a single 'halves' item that dropped would represent two halves visually as a single item, or be a single 'half' and you require two of them to make a Yo-yo. But that's not really my main point here.

These crafting recipes are really weird for yoyos that lose their usefulness in 5 minutes. Why craft something into 4 shards that you instantly use ALL of to craft something else, its an unnecessary step.

I use(d) the Hel-fire up until I beat the mechs. Which was longer than 5 minutes - Probably lasted longer than most of the crap you get.

If you're a Yo-Yo user that likes their Yo-Yos.... your progression probably goes like this:

1). Cascade
2). Amarok (or Hel-Fire)
3). Yelets
4). Eye of Cthulhu
5). Terrarian

Now, Yelets will not drop (according to wiki) until a Mech Boss is killed. In my personal experience, I spent two hours in the Jungle murdering stuff left-and-right and it refused to drop until all three mechs were killed so I can't really verify whether or not you need to kill one, or all the mechs for Yelets to drop.

Even if it is only 1 mech required, you'd still want to get an Amarok or Hel-Fire ASAP, then get your T3 Ore Armor (which takes way longer than 5 minutes), and then kill a Mech.

Once you get Yelets, you can't get the Eye of Cthulhu until you defeat Golem, which means also killing Plantera. If you're a Yo-Yo User, you were probably farming Turtle Armor, etc. Again, I think it takes a lot longer than 5 minutes to get Turtle Armor made, go kill Plantera, go through the Temple, set up Golem's room, kill Golem, and then pop a Solar Eclipse to get the TEoC.

EDIT: Also I think you misunderstood the recipes.

The Shards are normal drops, with twice the frequency of Yo-yo drops that stack to 99. You can either use 4 shards to make a yo-yo, OR, use the 4 shards to make one of the other items listed above. Or, just dump them on a vendor if you don't need that stuff. I edited the OP to clarify.

Thanks for clearing that up, its makes a lot more sense now. It REALLY looked as if the items were crafted INTO the shards before.

+12 respect points for Emperor's New Groove reference :) (and I totally agree.)
I watched that movie like 10 years ago... What part is that from?

Ahh.

I was figuring that might have happened, that you mighta misunderstood. I re-read the OP and I went "oooh, I bet he thought turn the stuff into shards..." lol. Understandable mistake to make.
