Weapons & Equip Soulrender - Ranged Life-steal done my way

Melee and Magic have life-steal. Why shouldn't Rangers get the option to be immortal without having to change class?

Before someone gets on my case about Ranged life-steal, please refer to this, as well as the bold red text at the bottom of this post.
Life-steal already exists. We wouldn't be damning this game even more by adding another form of it. We'd have the same immortality problem we had before, but pro-Ranger-life-steal advocates would be happy and stop complaining. The only people who would be upset by such a change are the radicals who want life-steal removed entirely.
Also consider that this is not a direct life-steal that I'm proposing, and is unlike anything seen in-game already.

Now, onto the suggestion.

Soulrender
55 Damage
12 Use Time (5 uses/second) Fully automatic.
3 Knockback
* Can use Bullets or Arrows for ammo.
* Shoots soul-tearing shots which steal life from fallen foes.
Arrows are transformed into Soulrend Bolts, which are not affected by gravity.

Bullets are transformed into two parallel Soulrend Shots, which deal 55% of original damage (base 30) each.
Soulrend Shots.png
* Shots inflict the Soulrend Debuff for 5 seconds.
Acquisition:
Dropped by Dungeon Spirits, 2.5% (1/40, or 1/600 from any enemy).

Soulrend Debuff
"Your soul is torn and weak... ready for harvesting."
* Soul wisps (like those seen when using Spectre armor) will closely orbit the afflicted target.
* Damage taken is increased by 5%.
* Damage output is reduced by 10%.
* When an enemy that you Soulrend is killed, all players on the same team as you (including yourself) receive a portion of the enemies max health. Total health received is equivalent to the square root of the enemy's maximum health, and is then split evenly between you and all nearby teammates.

That's it for the suggestion. Any feedback not pertaining to whether or not we should have Ranger life-steal will be appreciated.

If you came just to argue over Ranger life-steal, turn around and leave and just don't reply. I've dealt with enough crap over this topic in many other threads, and I will not be swayed, no matter how strongly you feel we shouldn't have this. Don't even try.

Sweet idea. Liking the wordplay on rendering souls and surrendering ( :p ) and how it can use multiple types of ammo!

Yeah, I'd use this 100%. One question: Is there a cooldown?
No, but the equation used to determine returned life has a healing curb built in. Square root is a powerful thing... killing the Destroyer would only heal you about halfway, and that thing has eighty-thousand-freaking health.

great.
would be OP in high wave events tho
Maybe, but probably not. It would be very useful with a team, but then again, a well-coordinated team can shred the moon events anyways.

Plus, there's always Spectre armor to consider, which has a much more effective healing method.

Amazing now the three terraria type of weapons will have life-steal full support also amazing idea ;),
EDIT:Also will be the destroyer will be not affected by the debuff?

Square root is a powerful thing...

Yeah. The Square root of 625 is 25. So I guess there is a curb.

Square Roots:

1=1
2=4
3=9
4=16
5=25
6=36
7=49
8=64
9=81
10=100
11=121
12=144
13=169
14=196
15=225
16=256
17=289
18=324
19=361
20=400
21=441
22=484
23=529
24=576
25=625

So yeah, point understood.

Total health received is equivalent to the square root of the enemies maximum health, and is then split evenly between all nearby teammates.

I'm not going to say anything about balance, but you have considered the figures I put up, right? What's the best achievable DPS of this weapon would be, by the way?

What Shroomite helmet affects the Soulrender? Due to what ammo it uses, it seems that it would be affected by the Headgear or the Mask depending on the used ammo.
Both the Helmet and the Headgear I suppose, but given that I particularly dislike the weapon type division of Shroomite Helmets, I'm actually hoping that the bonuses of the Shroomite Helmets are replaced by something different entirely.

I considered the figures a long, long time ago.

Personally I don't like this idea. The only part I like is healing method (receiving a portion of enemy's maximum health after kill). The rest just don't captivate me, sorry. I will still wait for ranger life steal solution. No support.

By nearly a year, it seems like. I wasn't around then. Fair's fair I suppose. Maybe you should include the figures here as well?

55 Damage
13 Use Time (4.6 uses/second)

I'm going to guess that the arrows transformed will not have additional damage since you didn't mention any.
Assuming with full damage gear you can reach up to, 200% damage(more? Not well-versed with range equipment), that's a base damage of 110, or 506 DPS. Upon average, enemies during the moons have 25 defense, so that's 98 damage per hit, or 451 DPS.

For bullets, for base damage that's 60*2, or 276*2 DPS(higher by 50 or so) or 552. With defense into the calculation, that's 221*2(lower by 10 or so) or 442.

So.... damn, now I need a comparison of the other weapons. :sigh:

Too lazy to do it.

If used with arrows, the Soul Render would achieve 254 DPS, with bullets, it is 277 DPS without taking ammo (Which is very important to take into account, as faster-firing weapons have a higher DPS increase from ammo than slower-firing ones), defence, crits or buffs into account. By comparison, the Tactical shotgun has 316.4 DPS, the Chain Gun has 465, and the Megashark has 230 DPS, the Tsunami has 783 DPS, and the Chlorophyte Crossbow has, on average, 340 DPS. As it is a Post-Plantera weapon, it makes sense for it to be seemingly stronger than the Megashark, specially as the Soulrender overrides ammo effects, meaning that the Megashark is stronger if used with Crystal bullets.
