Here is an accessory concept I came up with a few days ago. I posted it to Reddit and someone suggested I post it here too. Inspired by the fact that 1.4.5 will add lightning storms, and the phrase "Lightning in a Bottle".
The idea was for this item(s) to be a unique addition to the Bottle accessory line. It would allow a new type of vertical movement similar to the double jump but would not require you to touch the ground to use again. I tried to balance the item's utility as both an offensive & movement item by giving it a cooldown and limiting the height gain based on the players distance to the ground. I also considered a few other things; like a possible Thunderstorm in a Balloon (Thundercloud in a Bottle + Red Balloon); further additions to the crafting line; special interactions with metal and wiring (credit: u/XarH); water interaction; whether it would take a small portion of mana to use; if the damage would scale based on either summon or magic damage; etc. I also didn't really think too much about how to obtain it, so if anyone has any ideas my feel free to share.

| The Lightning in a Bottle is a pre-Hardmode accessory which works similarly to the Cloud in a Bottle, allowing the player to double-jump. Instead of a cloud being produced when the player jumps, a bolt of lightning is produced at the player's feet. The bolt of lightning will strike anything underneath it, dealing damage. The lightning jump's height depends on the player's distance from the ground. Activating the jump ≤11 tiles above nearest block below the player will launch the player 6 tiles into the air, totaling 12 tiles when put together with the first jump. Activating the jump anywhere higher than 11 tiles above the ground will only boost the player 3 tiles into the air, totaling 9 tiles when put together with the first jump. The lightning jump has a 3-second cooldown, and the player will produce a small spark effect once it has recharged. Does not require the player to have touched the ground, and can be used again as long as the cooldown has refreshed. |
The Thundercloud in a Bottle is an accessory that combines the functionality of the Cloud in a Bottle and the Lightning in a Bottle. It allows the player to double-jump, boosting the player 6 tiles upwards atop a thundercloud, causing the player to float for a brief moment. Jumping again before touching the ground will produce a bolt of lightning below the cloud, launching the player upwards 5 tiles into the air, regardless of the players distance to the ground, and dealing damage to anything it strikes. You can lightning jump again without touching the ground if the 3-second cooldown has refreshed, but you must touch the ground to thundercloud jump again. Any subsequent lightning jumps after the first one will follow the same height restrictions as the Lightning in a Bottle. The thundercloud jump goes 6 tiles up, and combined with the following lightning jump of 5 tiles, total height will be 16 tiles. | |
