Biomes & Nature [Sprites] Ocean Expanded: Dangerous Depths

Thanks for dropping by, and the detailed critique! It definitely helps to have flaws in this pointed out; since I'm the only one working on it I can overlook a lot of thinks >_> anw, not trying to be overdefensive (and hope I don't come across as such D:) but some of these are simply miscommunications on my part:

It's okay, you did a fine job! :)
I've seen this pointed out before in other threads. The truth is, to make the Ocean a more interesting place and a proper biome, it should be at least a bit larger. I was thinking of removing the oceans at the ends of the map and replacing it somewhere else on the map. After all, the player can easily reach the finite edges of the map so it's not like the oceans are actually keeping, anyone from doing it, haha. Still have to think about this

Maybe it shouldn't be wider?
Why not make it simply go deep underground without a smooth edge, like an underwater cliff!

Ugh, the Siren's Shriek. I'm having a hard time rebalancing this thing ;_; Your suggestion makes sense, but I don't want to make it overcomplicated and only deny certain arrow types so the player is never sure what he can actually use. Currently normalizing all arrows into one type would be, I think, the best idea, so I might just go with that.
Yup, transforming arrows would fix this.

I was thinking their swimming would work more like the players' when using flippers, 'jumping' in the water instead of 'floating' like the sharks do. That's why the delay is there
Well it should be a lot faster since they friggin live underwater!

Good idea, already spriting :D
Glad to hear. :)

Sea Urchins would be way more common than Death Urchins, especially as the depth increases. Again, sort of like spikes in the Dungeon/ Lihzahrd Temple. Sometimes you just drop on top of them by mistake, or get knocked into them by mobs. Not a huge threat, but can be annoying when you want to get things done.
But they can be killed.
Why not make it so when you hit them you will take a % of that damage so they will be even more annoying.
But Sea Urchins only, that would make the Death Urchins OP as hell...

Fair point. I'll think up a crafting recipe and balance it out a bit
Yea thats a good idea.
And why restrict ourselves here?
This can be a great equivalent for the ice golem!

Another fair point; thing is, as the game sits right now, there's already a set progression between all the bosses so it's kinda hard to squeeze new ones in. That being said, someone did suggest and underwater temple at one point, and I might just think about it, although spriting that would be a lot of work @_@
A water temple...
I don't know how much I support this, but if there is no other way around, I don't see why not.

I meant that a mob can't have Ink and Ichor/ Cursed Inferno placed on itself at the same time. It just seemed a bit overpowered; unfortunately I can't actually do testing so it's all based on what I think would work, haha. Again, will think about it?
It's no different from the rage potion, which increases you damage by 10%.
You don't see anyone complaining about that, besides, its pretty late game so I don't think it should be restricted in that way.

You mean the pet? For aestethic purposes, sure. I might sprite an animation later :D
Can't wait to see it! :)

Thanks again for dropping by! I am still doing work on expanding this (possibly adding more pre-hardmode content as well) but Inquisition came out a while ago so I haven't been doing anything else D: please keep an eye on me, I'll be working hard. Cheers~
Good luck and have fun!
I certainly enjoyed reading what you did so far, can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve! :D

Hmm can't say I agree with all your choices but its definitely one of the best ocean biome suggestions I've had an unfinished one sitting around for months that simply lacks gear. (I also purposefully was trying to avoid the excessive RNG spam by making the drops craftable might be why it is so hard to finish)

One big issue I see here is that Duke Fisheron is already a post Plantera hardmode ocean boss so Krahor feels unnecessary and out of place maybe adjust it to a different spot in progression?
If No one helps me finish my ocean suggestion I could gladly give you the unfinished file and let you use what you want from it my goal is an extensive ocean rework(this doesn't go far enough yet...)

The main difference is yours is full of mythology where I had gone with a biological theme using the most terrifying exotic sea creatures...

One of out solutions was a reef material this avoids the challenge that sand brings to an underground biome

Apparently I didn't reply, but I support this all the way. Once I get a badge or something (something I'll probably never get) I'll add it to this post.

Check the main post for my view on Fishron :D also since most of this takes place underwater, I thought it would need an underwater boss. That's why Krachor's there

Haha, thanks! Uh, what's that about badges?

A lot of people (me included) have a badge or seal of approval :P
Just to showcase our approval ;)

Ah, good to know. In that case, I'd be honored :D

Also added a few new things, cleaned up the thread a bit and rebalanced other things. Thanks @zimberzimber and @SzGamer227 in particular for the helpful feedback, and also everyone that commented! More stuff coming soon to wrap this up :D

Always happy to help make a decent suggestion! :)
Also, my signature has the misty ocean suggestion, consider adding it here and perhaps giving it some special properties!

If you wouldn't mind it, sure! I have some ideas..

Support! This would add a great ton to the ocean, since it is way too small and lacks content. You need to make a banner so I can put in my signature.

I like the idea for the Ocean being expanded. Its kind of boring Right now.

I'm not sure if this was asked before or not, but how would you make up the room for the mermaid?
Would she need a pool or something maybe?

support so release the Kraken err Krachor!

The sprites kind of seem out of Terraria's style, but they are still very well put together. This suggestion is also very nice! I would want to see something like this with the ocean, it looks very nice.

can you make the Neptune or moon shell be part of the membrane helmets crafting recipe and have their effects when equipped?

Otherwise, Jolly Good Show!

Great idea, just one thing that bothers me, the bubble blast may not be an upgraded version of the water bolt as you could get one prior to entering the dungeon easily.
But I love the underwater cave

I love this idea but something on the mermaid:

Its room should require a layer of water at least two high. Something like

I think that may be too complex to make.
I am not sure, but I think fluids count as blocks towards house spacing.

About the membrane set:
It has an extreme synergy with the Neptunes Shell, might be too good...

This is AMAZING! IMO you should add some more sea creatures, aggressive or not (such as goblin sharks, dolphins and hammerheads) and maybe a few prehistoric creatures that you'd find very deep down? (Such as Liopleurodon, Megalodon and Tylosaurus)

Gah, I've neglected this thread for far too long ;_; to everyone that expressed their support, thank you so much! It's nice to know people like this :)

I thought about it, but then again, I'm not sure it'll be still worth it if it's so annoying to craft :/ I have some ideas but I'll do some more rebalancing sometime after xmas. Thanks for the input c:

I always thought the ocean was particularly annoying to navigate for beginners, so I thought it would balance itself out, I guess? I'll add more depth related factors soon :D

I had loads of ideas for the Mermaid house, but it all seemed too annoying just to get an npc. In the end I just went with the normal spawn conditions :/

I'll figure out sth about Neptune. Promise :D

Lots of stuff coming soon. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love this so support!

I only have one complaint:-
The sprites kind of seem out of Terraria's style, but they are still very well put together.
^^ this
But the developers won't use your sprites anyway...
