To unlock as a house NPC:
1. Defeat a Pumpkin Moon (he is Post Plantera)
2. Play the game during the last two weeks of October: October 15th to October 31st.
Stingy Jack appears as a seasonal NPC during the season of Halloween. He is Santa Claus’s Halloween counterpart, and is based on a mythical character that is a mascot of Halloween.
Stingy Jack sells Halloween themed items, costumes, and more (I will give ideas later)
Stingy Jack has an erratic personality. He often says stupid or illogical statements. He also seems to not like many NPCs, especially children NPCs.
Quotes:
“Well I’ll be damned. You survived the invasion of my in laws on Hallow’s Eve!”
“One of life’s profound questions is ‘trick or treat?’. The answer? Life is a trick with NO treats.”
“That Santa Claus feller gives you presents. I give you expensive stuff you probably don’t need.”
“Happy Halloween!”
“I hate children knocking on my door. I don’t have any candy!”
“They call me Stingy Jack because I’m a stingy jack o lantern. I don’t understand how you keep forgetting that.”
“Tell those little runts to stop egging my house!”
“What did the jack o lantern say to the knife? ‘Ow! Stop! You’ll get a life sentence for this!’”
“Please buy something. It’s been too long since I had customers..oh how I miss the pagans.” (References Halloween being a Pagan holiday)
“Thought the Pumpkin Moon was bad? The Frost Moon just might put you on thin ice.”
“This shall be the year of the gourd and savior!”
Stingy Jack uses Headless Horseman / Horseman’s Blade jack o lantern projectiles to defend himself through walls. He is one of the stronger NPCs in that sense.
Fun fact: TECHNICALLY, it is possible for both Stingy Jack and Santa Claus to exist at the same time. In the Christmas season, you can beat a Pumpkin Moon to have Stingy Jack appear for the day and night after clearing the event.
The opposite is also true: clear a Frost Moon when Stingy Jack is visiting in the Halloween season to have Santa arrive for the day.
Both NPCs hate each other, and have negative lines about the other:
Stingy Jack: “Great. Why is Saint Prick here? He’s a creep who watches you sleep, you know. What a phony.”
Santa Claus: “Turn that floating jack o lantern into pumpkin pie for me. I’ll put you on the nice list for life.”
