Weapons & Equip Sun in a Bottle

Aceplante

Official Terrarian
Crafted with solar fragments, this would be a bottle themed accessory that allows your melee attacks to inflict the daybroken debuff (granting +100 DPS). Unlike the actual daybreak weapon, it would not stack.

This would be good for area control, and could potentially allow earlier game weapons to become semi-viable late game, if you wish to use one instead of any pillar weapons (a mechanic people have been asking for in various forms for years). This also means that this accessory gives no benefit if you are already using either the daybreak or solar eruption (the only two melee pillar weapons), as well as any of the other pillar weapons (because they are not melee), until you get a ML melee weapon.

Perhaps it could also be combined with the fire gauntlet to make a "Solar Gauntlet", a perfect endgame accessory!

I think it should give something else; adding this directly conflicts with the performance of the pillar weapons.

"conflicts"? how so?

Two things can't inflict the same debuff, so it is pretty useless on the Solar Weapons as the two sources of Daybroken cancel out into one.

I guess you could just unequip the accessory, or it could inflict an exact duplicate of daybroken
Just have it be a new debuff…
Also, for this to work, you’d need an accessory for every class.

did you read the post? I acknowledge that and think that is fine. It is still useful if you use any other melee weapon other than the solar pillar ones.

At this point in time, I am not concerned with making matching accessories for the other classes. Is it not fine to have a solely melee focused one?

I am against the pillar weapons being so strong that fun weapons get no use thing anyway. I would want this (and similar accessories) added specifically because it powercreeps the pillar weapons.

I seem to have missed that (and I apologize,) but if that should happen you’d just… nerf the pillar weapons. ML is also balanced around them as far as I can tell.

It gives Solar Fragments one extra use than all the others, so yes.

This does not in any way nerf the pillar weapons, its just an incompatible buff. I am fine with that, and actually think it is an interesting mechanic.

are you saying "yes" we cant have a solely melee focused accessory because that would mean the fragment has "one extra use"? ...so?

Fine, you win. I still think it is weird to have something not work with the choices the game wants you to make, but whatever.

I think we’re getting confused here. Imagine if Ranged got another weapon while others didn’t. Imagine if Summoners got a whip armor and the other classes didn’t get an alt. This is giving Melee an extra use for their fragments on an accessory that benefits them, so (like everything else with the pillars) other classes need their alternatives.

Not a fan.

First of all it aesthetically doesn't fall in line with any of the pillar items, bottles were like a pre hardmode accessory its really weird for an endgame accessory to be a bottle.

Secondly this accessory basically exists to buff Terrablade. It has very high synergy with terrablade's large piercing fast projectile and Terrablade's lackluster DPS means it gets more of a benefit from the flat 100 DPS increase than weapon like starlight do. I don't think Terrablade needs a buff and I don't think many other options will get nearly as much out of this.

Third this kind of accessory feels a bit late. Most of the weapons after this get a miniscule like 3% buff from it and most of the weapons before are outshined by the pillar weapons are terra blade.

This would be a pretty bad accessory. I would much rather spend that accessory slot on something that gives more damage like a Celestial Shell or Mechanical Glove/Fire Gauntlet or an Emblem. There's also the fact that there are a few enemies that are immune to Daybroken, though that doesn't particularly matter at this stage. But basically I would much rather get a +10%/+12% damage increase that affects both my melee weapons and summons than this. I would also just use Daybreak if I'm going melee rather than some weapon from a previous tier.

I personally have always loved the idea of new really lategame combat accessories, but as people have said here, yeah this would need some buffs and it would just feel really wrong if it was only the solar pillar that got an accessory like this.

I think an endgame bottle would be quite cool, but what I find weird about this is that all the previous bottle accessories are movement accessories while this one is a DoT accessory so it feels a bit out of place.

If I made this, I would make it work as an explosion double jump, that makes you briefly invincible when jumping and damages and inflicts all enemies near you with daybroken (the explosion and invincibility would have a cooldown so you can't spam it). I think that'd be kind of neat for a solar fragment melee accessory.

Im not worried or concerned about the other pillars at this time. And if there was to be a movement accessory, solar pillar would be my last choice.

For the suggestion here, it doesn't have to be a bottle. Could just be called "captured sun" or something.

Along with what others have said, this being a bottle makes no thematical sense. Bottles are for double jumps, and this clearly isn't.

100 DPS really isn't that strong at this stage of the game, daybroken isn't a bad debuff by any means but it's not anything super impactful. It's only truly strong with Daybreak, which is already a weapon considered amazing.
Also I don't think what this really adds at all. Other melee weapons do not need daybroken at this stage. You don't need to have daybroken to make them perform well in the pillars.

The issue isn't the weapons themselves, to be fair, it's the state the Cultists and pillars are in as of now, also Moon Lord.

I like it, it seems like a good idea at first glance. And second, and third. In my opinion, it sounds excellent.
