Works fine on my end
There has to be two walls where you want to place the trap door and two tiles next to where you want to place it

Trap Door

Trap Doors are furniture items. They are essentially full-block horizontal Doors. Trap Doors can be opened using ⚷ Open / Activate, causing them to expand into a 2x2 block. They are valid for use in housing.

No walls needed that I’m aware of. Two blocks should be fine.

After the last update on switch this is functioning normally now.
