PC Terraria does not start

Terrarian
I know you are possibly tired of seeing that title in the thread, but please, I am tired of this problem too, i bought the game on Steam to play with some friends and they start the game, but not me, I hit start and the game stays on “running”, but after a few seconds it goes back to “play”. I have tried a thousand and one solutions from everywhere (reddit, facebook, youtube and some I saw in this forum) but none has worked for me.

I tried with the TModLoader and there the game opens without problems, but when trying to open the normal game nothing, even in my desperation I downloaded a pirated version and it doesn't open either. And yes, I have also done 100 times the file verification and nothing, manually delete all the files and no solution, in fact still appears that annoying message “Could not validate 1 file and will be downloaded again”.

So please, someone give me a solution that can work for me, thank you and excuse me for having to take out my frustration in this post.

I have the same problem, nothing helps.

Hey @iSoulOwl, I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with Terraria.

Could you go to your Terraria installation directory (easiest way is to right click Terraria in Steam, select Manage -> Browse local files) and run TerrariaServer.exe? Does it show you an error when it launches?

I see, could you follow these steps?
  1. In your Steam Library, right click Terraria and click Properties... .
  2. Under the General tab, add the following to the Launch Options field: -logerrors -logfile.

  3. Close the window, then launch Terraria. Wait for the button to turn back to "Play".
  4. Go to to Documents/My Games/Terraria/Logs and upload the most recent log to this thread.

This indicates an issue with your .NET installation. Try running dotNetFx40_Full_setup.exe in your Terraria installation folder and see if it allows you to (re)install or repair .NET. If it doesn't, try using the Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool.

Have you tried using the repair tool I linked? It may resolve your issue.

Yes, I tried.It didn't help

I see. Unfortunately, it does look like your .NET installation is either misconfigured or corrupt. The only sure-fire way to fix that is to reinstall Windows, though that will require you to reinstall all your applications. If you do choose to do so, do make sure to back-up all your personal files first, in case they are lost in the reinstall.
