Why can't they just make Medusa a boss. A really hardcore much more powerful super boss. That way, she won't be an "annoying common mob", and rather something you prepare for. I want her to be ultra badass. I want "Blindness Glasses" to prevent her curse from working unless we stare at her for X amount of time (Like the lava charm), and I want Mirror Glasses to reflect her attacks back at her in Expert Mode.
That way she's stunned, and you can get close to her to hurt her. I want her to have a really horrifying melee attack that makes every player very happy to get those glasses.
Make her a mob with interesting dynamics, and make it so other enemies are less likely to spawn when she's around, but in return, she can easily climb the landscape (She's a snake for christ sake).
Also, there are tons of areas with slightly altered cave backgrounds and the like. Mushroom biomes don't really have anything except for a few mobs, and crystal caves are also a good addition. But what about areas that have other types of things? Boss spawners, or maybe just special, ancient chests. Maybe some of them could have a portal to an alternate, small dungeon, like the dungeon missions/scrolls in Torchlight 1.
Then again, this game doesn't like the idea of multiple maps, it likes the idea of one main one. Minecraft, on the contrary, has the Nether and The End in different maps and nobody complains about the slight loading time.
I would give this some serious consideration, but it's unlikely we'll get anything of the sort until Terraria 2.
