My Question: What is the Brain of Cthulhu?

For the Corruption, the Eater of Worlds is a chain of Eaters of Souls that becomes agitated and aggressive when Shadow Orbs are destroyed. Meanwhile, the Brain of Cthulhu acts much the same way. I know it's some sort of creature native to the Crimson but not much more than that. Might be interesting to see your take on it. Mostly asking because I like your take on the Eye of Cthulhu and it merely being the last stage of a Demon Eye's life cycle instead of literally being one of Cthulhu's eyes.

I... kinda hate to be "that guy", but why are they called Wyverns?
Wyverns have large wings that serve as forelimbs.
Our Wyverns are more akin to wingless Eastern Dragons.
