Terraria: Otherworld Terraria: Otherworld - An Update

There is very little chance we will be able to move at the speed of an EA or a Microsoft. Its not just that they are bigger - they are EXPONENTIALLY bigger. They probably have more janitors than we have employees. :p Re-Logic has grown a LOT in 5 years....but it needs to be smart growth.

Everyone wants Otherworld sooner vs later.....but more importantly, we want it RIGHT. That last bit is not something we will compromise on. We didn't want to push it out before it is ready just to hit the maximal hype train levels. We are confident that this is the best way to go....and I suppose we will see what happens on the "success" end when it comes out. ;)

I can tell you from experience that a relatively small EA office like the one in England (near London but not in London) has more people manning the reception desk handling visitors and phone calls then there are people on Re-Logic's payroll :D

SCREW TERRARIA RELEASE THE GAME NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

I mean come on IT LOOK AWESOOOOME

@happy days You know Re-Logic, they won't release anything until it's ready. :p

If the developers say the game isn't complete, I'm sure they mean it. ;)

Releasing an unfinished/buggy game is never a good idea, and will hurt everyone in the long run.

I agree with the Re-Logic team, an unfinished game can hurt popularity so even when it is complete no one would want it.

Exactly, Assassin's Creed Unity was a good example of that.

I am fine with waiting but as I mentioned in my previous post, more news would be ideal. On top of that an eventual release date or a pre-order perhaps would be great. P.S, by projects I thought you meant games...

Out of curiosity, just for those who continue to post to this extent, what is strong appeal of a pre-order for a game which, being primarily digital, will have no problem selling out?

Note that I'm just interested to know, while Relogic's stance has generally been against pre-orders/early access in the past.

1. You have the money now, but might not later because of bills, drug addiction, or crazy wife/girlfriend.
2. Bragging rights to those whom wouldn't care anyways.
3. Just to get it out of the way.
4. Because you think that if you pay now it might put a fire under the dev's rears to finish sooner.
5. So you don't have to rush ordering it when it is released so you can just download it right away and get it 10 ms sooner than others whom had not pre-ordered.
6. Because you are just so darn excited and obsessed and you just keep clicking F5 anyways.
7. It enlarges your e-:red:.

I am not exactly strongly appealed to this but its do to a couple of reason why I bring it up.

1. I have Money
2. I don't know if I should spend it
3. This will allow me to know and estimated time
4. I will be able to spend my money
5. Satisfying to know you will get it the day it comes out

Those are my main reason. I am more or less just desperately waiting for a release date/time frame.

While I am on that topic, I wouldn't mind so much if

A) Had more news
B) Brought up progress
C) Involved community more

I understand it isn't ideal to spoil a thing a lot but there is a difference between spoiling part of something, than leaving something in the dark. I have got to say, this is the least news I have got out of a game before release. I thought Halo 5 was miserable XD. What I am getting at is how its almost like saying, "Half Life 4 is being made!" and them releasing a thing or two a year. Similar to them saying they were gonna release 3 but we never got more. I am not hating on this game but I would like to see more involvement and such this year before the initial release.

The mysteriousness of the project is a good thing IMO. I don't know whether to get "super hyped" or not, so I wait patiently. I know the game will be at least good, but how good? I'm not spamming F5 because I know that the times that info is released are either spread out or unpredictable. It's easy to wait, and I would prefer that it stays that way.

Also, to all of you... [generally negative label that I am being vague about as to reduce numbers of feelings hurt]s who are all "OMG RELEASE OTHERWORLD NAOO!!!1!!!!111!!!11!," don't be ungrateful. The lack of news (and, for want of a better word, insistence, that it's happening) indicates that the developers are SO hard at work that they can't even post news updates (Redigit hasn't been on for ~a month). If you knew everything about the game, then only so much fun will be had. There are other aspects to the game, no doubt, but discovery is one of the key aspects of the original Terraria and, based on what we've seen so far, Otherworld.
Clearly the game is not in a state that the developers are comfortable with releasing, and that is fine. You need to respect that.
I hope this doesn't come out as rude, I just wanted to state my opinion.

In regards to news - we had a regular spoiler cadence going (until we got just deep in the weeds with the actual dev work and everything else going on - remember, we are still a small team ;) ). I'm sure we will get more of that going in the future. For now, if you haven't seen the spoiler compendium, check it out. :)

Community wise, we have a dedicated section here until we can get the standalone community up and running. I expect that level of interaction that you seek will go up with that and as we get other parallel work streams off the board. :)

Re-Logic is pretty good about this. They give us a few pieces here and there, but nothing to truly spoil the discovery aspect of the game. What I like most is that they continue to keep the community updated about the situation. I know many companies will announce something only to have years go by without mentioning anything to their community about how it is going. I've noticed that Re-Logic has a pretty thorough understanding of good customer service, and is definitely a company worth supporting.

I was wondering how exactly that would work with the current community forums. Would they be parallel so we can use our TCF account for TOCF as well, or will we need new accounts? Will it be as separate site, a dual site along with TCF, or just its own section on TCF? I understand not wanting it to be completely mixed with TCF, as it will be its own game; but at the same time I know most of the people who are involved in one of the two communities will probably be involved in both. I'm curious on how it'll work out.

I could kill my paper towels just for OW

If its would be released as EA,then it would be like...the content would be more expected from the users after the EA,which i don't like! so the no EA decision is a good one EDIT:Others who buy the EA may spoiler all to the one which wants to wait to it to be complete

We will have more details coming on this....but it will be more in the "parallel" sense. We discussed linked accounts, but I THINK we may go with standalones. Logistics still to be worked out....but we tend to view TCF as a nice template, so it should feel unique and yet familiar at the same time if we do our jobs right. Stay tuned for now.

My current world in Terraria is named Otherworld and i agree T:OW needs to be right.

Out of curiosity, will the independent Terraria: Otherworld site allow Account Migrating from TCF similar to how users from Terraria Online could Migrate their accounts to TCF in the beginning?

My guess is that people who like Pre-orders enjoy getting extra/exclusive content with it that can only be gotten from Pre-Ordering. Seeing how some companies include exclusive DLC for Pre Orders, which wouldn't really fit with Re-Logic, as it hasn't been their policy like you said.

Though some games also have special Limited Editions that include physical extras like artbooks/items and the Physical Disc related to the game which pretty much requires Pre-Ordering. Can't say that is the case for most Pre-Orders, but it might be what some are thinking about when they Pre-Order.

It depends on what they go with. They could make TCF and TOCF two sides of the same site using the same directory and database. Basically you'd have only one account but it could access both sites (so any TCF account would also be a TOCF account). I don't know if Loki caught that I was kind of referencing something like that by wondering if the sites would be parallel.

The other two options would be: the one you described, where your TCF and TOCF accounts would be separate (you could maybe start the TOCF account by migrating), and they would be stored on a separate and independent database; or where you create a separate account and link the accounts together (which, from what Loki said, was something they did discuss but may not likely do).
