Terraria State of the Game - April 2025

If they get excited, they can delay it again to 2026. They're not even completely sure if the update will come out this year, which is why Red recommends playing Core Keeper so much.
Never known a game that takes so long to update, they seriously need to pull their fingers out, gta6 will be out before this drops at this rate

Silksong… even if it’s releasing soon it still took a while.

Well, hopefully we can beat gta 6, Terraria is better anyway

I was thinking about the new Terraria songs, if Destroyer and BoC got a new theme, who would get "Boss 3"?

And another thing I remembered is our friend Frank from "Make-a-Wish", I wonder if he's okay and will see this update arrive?

Anyway, this thing about the devs making 1.3 available on Steam, as planned, is just to not let the anniversary go unnoticed, there was nothing special, not a single thing talking about 1.4.5, not a special gameplay to celebrate the date....

Apparently less than 3 years for a comparable amount of content to terraria updates that took a similar amount of time, if not longer, is an eternity
Even deltarune chapter 2 is over a year older than the current terraria patch, and we got far less communication about the upcoming chapters 3 and 4 during that time compared to 1.4.5. The Terraria community is very impatient. Usually indie games with long waits like this don't have the luxury of being insanely replayable sandbox games, and the devs are far less transparent about it too.

But nah, just because the devs don't tell us everything about everything they do every month and want to withold information about what they're working on so we can discover it ourselves later, people just love to say they're "giving us monthly nothingburgers" and "a terrible example of scope creep". It's already exceptional for a game dev (even if you're including other indie devs with absolutely stellar reputations) to give us progress updates of any kind in the first place, let alone ones as frequent as monthly, not sure why we're demanding more.

Nah, not true anymore in our era of constant Internet connectivity and constant updates.

Remember that Terraria itself was a rushed game, because Red was worried the leaked beta versions that were floating around on the Internet would sink the game's sales.

Remember how Cyberpunk 2077 had a disastrous launch but is now considered an excellent game?

Remember how Fallout 76 had a disastrous launch but is now considered an actually okay game?

Star Citizen, too. It was kickstarted in 2012.

Also let's not forget that it's not like Terraria is an unfinished game. I mean, 1.4.4 was the "labor of love" final update. I know "final update" has become a running joke since every major update since 1.1 have been supposedly final when announced; but that only strengthens the point: Terraria doesn't actually need to get yet more content to feel complete.

"A delayed game is good eventually, but a rushed game is bad forever." - some guy whose name i forgot

Terraria is a good game now? - Some terraria fan who has almost 12,000 hours on his steam record. (thats me btw, im taking the mickey out of myelf and Terraria in a good natured way, its a joke) Also Im hoping theres some good news related to 1.4.5, Im not sure how much longer I can wait, and sorry if it sounds like I am rushing them, I have been patient and waiting, but I am getting too excited now to see the new stuff, either way I wouldnt be surprised if we have to wait a bit longert tbh, and its fine if it is.

Thank you, I could not remember the proper quote

I believe that the origin is unknown, but it’s often attributed to Miyamoto

I just linked to a whole investigation into the saying.

“A game’s only late until it ships, but it sucks forever.” --Siobhan Beeman, Computer Games Developers Conference 1996 Proceedings
“A good game is only late until it ships, a bad game is bad forever.” --Jason Schreiber, Gamefan issue for June 1998
“ 'A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.' - Shigeru Miyamoto.” --Usenet post on alt.comics.2000ad from October 4, 2003

Like a lot of quotes found on the Internet, it only really got traction after getting transformed and misattributed and it's this transformed and misattributed version that became "canon" in common consciousness. No, Miyamoto is not the originator of that phrase, and in fact there's no record of him ever saying it.

But if we follow the logic of this investigation of who quoted this phrase first, it would be Beeman who is the oldest, but we do not know who actually created this phrase.

And my question was not answered, who will get the song "Boss 3" if Destroyer and Brain of Cthulhu will have their own themes?

If both Destroyer and Brain of Cthulhu get new music.
Frost Legion would be the one to have Boss 3 theme.

but does anyone actually fight the frost legion?

but does anyone actually fight the frost legion?
Any Terrarians who want to have Santa Claus move in will fight it once, then forget it exists.
I do wish this outdated invasion is on the list for change in 1.4.5

Personally, I think the Destroyer and Brain Of Cthulhu should have their own themes and maybe Boss 3 satys as the Frost Legion, and I agree, the Frost Legion is VERY underwhelming, I do like them and fight them for fun and to get Santa but they only drop Snow Blocks and money, so as far as invasions go, they are very plain, they need more love.
