I think you have just postponed the release for another month.
1 month isn't a lot when you consider the full scale

1.4.5 is gonna be in 12 millennia mininum
 
With lightning coming to the game would/could we expect a lightning in a bottle item? Perhaps when getting struck while holding an empty bottle it'll fill it or we could have a special interaction to hold a bottle up so we can jump into a bolt and get a more guaranteed chance to get one. Not sure how the lightning in a bottle would benefit the player but it'd be interesting to have a new bottled item accessory

Will the lightning effect be as a toggleable feature?
 
I know most of you are getting impatient with things, but speaking as an actual person with experience making things, there's a lot that goes into just creating things. It's not a magic wand you can just wave and be done with it. There's layers that need to be worked with, and you need to be sure things are going to work out before things advance. That's why development is an iterative process - it is a series of steps, not just one entire jam-out and shove. That way you can catch problems as you take these steps. Would you rather have a package that is one whole rushed, convoluted mess? ...I wouldn't. And if they do that, it's a severe hit in their reputation.

Can't wait until the lightning gets added to FTW/GFB where it can pass through blocks all the way to the Underworld until it hits its target block, insta-kill players, always strike the same position twice and blow up a bomb sized crater where it lands. Oh and the storms to just be covered by lightning.
 
FTW lightning should spawn boulders
 
Lightning should hit a player golfing, because the club would attract it.

Either way 1.4.5 or 1.5 I am excited for this update it’s gonna be so awesome!
 
Finally, thunderstorms aren't just for visual effect (now the music won't drive me crazy since current thunderstorms just function like rain but make the world darker), and I can see the leashed critters being apart of alot of builds and maps provided that they don't despawn or become killable.
 
Have you thought how bad it would be to be unable to go outside without having a roof over your head? We should have an option to block, prevent or dodge lightning that doesn't require building.
How often are you playing terraria and have literally no blocks or tools in your inventory? Because the solution he posted there will take literally 2 blocks, 6 if you aren’t mining the blocks to daisy chain them up above you.
 
The simplest solution is crafting the lightning rod and attracting all the lightning in the area. (Bonus if it gives you useful items)
I can't concentrate on dodging/blocking/reflecting lightning while fighting a boss anyway.

Also, you have an Ice rod in Hardmode for a quick roof building.
 
Since there's still new stuff being added before the update is finalised, I've got a minor feature request:

I'd like for the new-character screen to remember the previous character style (hair, clothes, colours, etc.) rather than always returning to the same default style.

I've been playing some hardcore characters recently, and it feels bad to spend a bunch of time making the character look cool - only to have to go through it all again straight away for a short-lived character. I just think it would be nicer if the new character screen showed the style I had most recently created.

I suppose the 'down side' of this is that if someone makes a silly looking novelty character, it might make the new character screen feel a bit weird when it suggests that same silly character again next time. But still, I reckon it would be better this way.

The lightning is telegraphed, so it's probably really easy to dodge.
 
Some thoughts for the new lightning feature:
  • Players could get struck while holding the Nimbus Rod to craft a True Nimbus Rod, which would be a summoning weapon that summons sentry-style clouds that steadily rain damaging droplets.
  • Lightning in a Bottle – an upgrade to the Cloud in a Bottle that creates a damaging AoE splash of electricity when the player double-jumps.


Regarding the leashed critters, I also would like to ask some of what's been asked here already:
  • Does the player need a special tool or accessory to place them, or can they be placed directly as-is like they seem to be in the spoiler?
  • Are the leashed critters vulnerable to damage?
  • If something destroys the leash anchor, does the critter escape, die, or drop as an item?
  • Is there a way to change the "rubble" style of the anchor without breaking and placing over and over again?
