Terraria State of the Game - December 2025

My guess for the release date is 25th Jan, Aussie time (also I guess the trailer will come out on the 20th)

According to ancient and medieval science, aether (/ˈiːθər/, alternative spellings include æther, aither, and ether), also known as the fifth element or quintessence, is the material that fills the region of the universe beyond the terrestrial sphere. The concept of aether was used in several theories to explain several natural phenomena, such as the propagation of light and gravity. In the late 19th century, physicists postulated that aether permeated space, providing a medium through which light could travel in a vacuum, but evidence for the presence of such a medium was not found in the Michelson–Morley experiment, and this result has been interpreted to mean that no luminiferous aether exists.
Due to the presence of a glowing liquid named shimmer, and the star field background within the biome, it seems Terraria went for a poetic interpretation of the "luminiferous aether" phrase; rather than any of the notions historically tied to aether.

Of course, there's also ^O^.

Nice…great critical thinking. Of course as is so often the case people forget that the mythology and written stories came first then study and scientific thoughts etc followed many years later.

Why would they post it on thursday?
They said early this week; thursday's not early lol

What anxiety, man. But what can you do... I just wanted to hear the new songs from the update, especially the King Slime theme....

Not quite. He said he will have more clarity on when to release update. And Thursday is like main terraria news day now.

Basically, because they can if something doesn't go the way they hope.
By way of update, a second pass was needed on at least one platform (nothing too problematic, just some of the backend vagaries that come with different platforms). I am hoping to have far more clarity by early next week - and once that clarity is achieved, we should be able to give a definitive launch date.

Cross your fingers.
There's no guarantee that We have to get any info early on. It can even happen on this sunday or next week.

When we do get a release date announcement, do you guys reckon it'll be long after? Or like teehee the update comes out tmrw
They're basically waiting for an all clear sign to say that "yeah, you can push this to consoles and nothing will brick"

It's just corporate red tape waiting right now and otherwise an announcement of a release date due to how console certification goes

Even if there's an announcement ten minutes from now you likely shouldn't expect to have the update in your hands until next week at minimum due to it being the middle of a business week at this point. Pushing any kind of update this far into the week is bracing for a weekend crunch vs having all hands on deck for all platforms at the start of a week.

This logic comes from the SotG in fact usually releasing on a Thursday except if it's a holiday, but the other condition to this was that it's usually the last Thursday of the month. So no reason to assume that Thursday will be the announcement day.

Speculation is understandable because we're all passionate about this update, but the announcement/update will be ready when it's ready. We'll have to wait and see

Oh I did misread him; my bad!

I got nothing but lmao reading that. Have you ever looked up the words hallow, elysia, etc on and on let alone studied dead religions for 10+ years? Not trying to be or sound rude but rationalization only goes so far. Your first sentence is mixing in concepts of Buddhism and almost Shintoism which have literally nothing to do with the true historic meanings of the word aether in its mythology.
Hey, no reason to act like any of that message wasn't purely for fun or theoretical. Symbolism in that vein is interpretive, and if I framed it in a way that was acting like I was correcting what you said then it wasn't my intention. My intention was elaboration.
And besides, my experience of aether is exclusively tied to the idea of it being a 5th element higher than the rest in the classical elements (quintessence), as well as a theoretical substance (luminiferous aether) used to explain how light travels through space (because for a relatively short duration in history photons were thought to exclusively be waves rather than particles which meant that there had to be something it was waving through, so aether was proposed as a solution to how what they were waving). My interpretation had nothing to do with any major religions.

I'm unsure why you brought up hallow and elysia so elaboration on that bit would be interesting so I could learn something. Terraria already has an interpretation of hallow and it's very different from its interpretation of aether, and as far as I know elysia is derived from the afterlife in greek mythology, specifically for good souls (being a region of the underworld titled Elysium) rather than having any association with light specifically, but if there's an earlier or more prominent origin on that feel free to correct it.

guys idk if i can take another day of drought :guidecry:

Just got Dead Cells to keep me going until the Terraria update. Maybe I will jinx it and the update is announced as soon as I start playing this. At least I can recognise some of the new content now. I never played Don't Starve or Palworld but like that new ice biome boss.

I'm going insane :redspin:
