Terraria State of the Game - February 2019

That's just not their business model.

Re-Logic is not a Triple-A company, they actually care about their customers, and they care about delivering a good solid product that people know and love. They're not going to push a half-baked update out, even an optional half-baked update out the door that's nowhere near completion yet.

That's BS that Triple-A studios do.

You know that when Re-Logic releases something, it is good and ready with minimal bugs. That's the kind of reputation they've built for themselves, and that's great.

I know that when 1.3.6 comes out, I can play on patch day and not have to wonder how long I should wait for the fixes. I don't have to worry about the thing breaking my game, or my save files, or what-not.

EDIT: Though I will voice a bit of curiosity as to the general time-frame of the update: Q1, Q2, etc? It would be nice if we had a general very broad time-frame so that we know if we should continue our playthroughs, or pause them and wait for the update.

The fact that all they show 2 months ago was a screenshot of a pre alpha after like 3 years says little good things about the progress until now

Also their kinda implying you need a high mid tier phone to run terraria after the update lol what happend to optimisation? Hopefully there will be options to make it look like garbage and disable stuff if possible and have loading screens also there better be graphic settings

Literal years *dab*

That new world selection interface is cool!

Are any changes coming to make start up faster? It seems to take so long now on my PC.

How long until 1.3.6 gets renamed to 1.4?
Seriously, you might as well do that.

It will probably not be, as each update added a major thing. 1.0 was the release, 1.1 added hardmode and Mech bosses. 1.2 added Plantera, Golem, and the Crimson. 1.3 added the moonlord, and 1.4 Will have a creative mode. So far it's simple game enhancements but not anything truly major to gameplay.
1.3.6 should be 1.4. All they need to do is add a new boss, and creative mode (requiring a creative character and world to prevent cheats)

Me and my friends have that too. I hope it is fixed as it takes up to 5 minutes.

Greetings Terrarians!

Welcome to the the latest Terraria community update on development progress across all active platforms! A ton of progress is being made, and things are really starting to come together - we are hopeful that we will be able to have some of this in your hands soon. That said, on with the latest news....

PS4 & XBOX ONE - PIPEWORKS

Our focus for PS4/XB1 right now is on finishing the 1.3.1.1 content update for both Xbox One and PS4.

The majority of the initial code has been implemented for 1.3.1.1 and is now in the testing phase. In parallel, the development team is feverishly working through the bugs uncovered by QA during that testing process. We don't have a timeline quite yet, but we're in the final development stages before submission and and a release to the community!

A previously planned patch that focused on fixes for several graphical bugs has been integrated into the 1.3.1.1 content update. Expect to see the new content and fixes arrive in the same patch

SWITCH - PIPEWORKS

As we mentioned last month, our team successfully completed a significant milestone by submitting the Switch alpha build. We’re working with both Re-Logic & 505 Games on a list of feedback items and feature requests before beginning on a bug fixing voyage that takes us straight to beta.

Once the remaining alpha feedback & feature requests have been integrated into the build, we will be rolling out new community showcases for the Nintendo Switch version!

In the meantime, enjoy this screenshot of fighting Eye of Cthulhu on Switch... and hopefully, we will have a bit more detail to share with you very soon. :)

MOBILE - DR STUDIOS

Happy February, everyone! As you may know, we recently asked the community for your help in our ongoing work on making sure that your existing saves can transition over fully and properly to the new Mobile 1.3 build. We are still in the process of testing everything here (we received over 2000 saves - THANK YOU!) - but we wanted to share a little bit of our progress here... and they say a picture is worth a thousand words, right? ;)

(Note: these are four separate screens, Mobile does not and will not have splitscreen, just in case anyone gets confused ;) )

We have put in special safeguards during the process - in fact, your existing saves will be put in a separate folder and kept safe from harm in the event that some undiscovered save transfer issue pops up after launch. We know how important and valuable these hard-earned saves are to everyone, so we are doing all the we can to make this go smoothly!

Taking this a step further, we have opened up the Terraria file system to access from the file management systems on Android and iOS. That means that you will be able to make manual backup copies of all of your saves, move them to the cloud, a new device, etc. This will also make it possible and easier for all mobile players (even our iOS friends) to send in their saves for testing and troubleshooting. All of this will take place in the standalone apps (like Files for iOS). We will give everyone step-by-step instructions on how to do various things with this capability as we get closer to launch.

Of course, work on controls and UI continue unabated, and we are really liking the direction that is taking. Still a good bit to get done, but we find that the game feels and plays really well right now.

We are truly excited with what is going on with Mobile right now, and we are looking forward to showcasing more of what we have planned and in progress as we head towards an amazing launch!

PC - RE-LOGIC

Happy February Terrarians!

The PC Terraria team remains hard at work with the upcoming 1.3.6 update. There is so much going on behind the scenes with this one - but in continuing with the spirit of "1.3.6 looks at everything in the game to see if it needs updating/tweaking/etc", we wanted to share the brand new and improved world creation screen. Now you can quickly and easily select all of the particulars for your new world all in one screen - with some cool new graphical depictions as well!

We will have a lot more to share in the weeks ahead - tidbits that we think that will be exciting for everyone - as we push ever-closer to the release of 1.3.6!

COMMUNITY

We want to give a shout-out to the Terraria Discord community at http://Discord.GG/Terraria and say congrats on growing over 50% in February to 38k+ members!

The server is also now officially verified! A big thank you to the Discord Community Team for all their hard work. Feel free to stop by there, say hello, share your fan art, and ask your Terraria related questions.
Great a news! Just keep up the good, guys!

I haven't seen any official cut points for devices yet - not even internally. :) All we know for now is that even the 1.2.4 CodeGlue version already pretty much requires 1GB of RAM.... and on PC, the 1.3 update caused a substantial uptick in minimum specs. As to what that will all mean in terms of what devices can do what and how well, that all remains to be seen (not the least of which being that said optimization isn't in its final place yet, because still indev)

The fact that all they show 2 months ago was a screenshot of a pre alpha after like 3 years says little good things about the progress until now

Very fair point in regards to the entire process - I don't think any of us are happy with how long its been - that said, DR Studios have only been on the case since the very end of last year.... and the progress made is pretty darned outstanding, in my opinion. Makes me very hopeful and confident that the end result will be happy times for all.

In the bottom right corner of each screenshot, there is a menu showing the "Auto Cursor" button (holding the cursor in a direction will cause you to mine that way if holding a Pickaxe), the "Direct cursor" button, and the Grappling hook. very cool!

Those world size descriptors are absolutely lovely. It gives new players a better sense of what to expect from each world size so there's marginally less pressure to immediately choose a Large world and get overwhelmed by the amount of solo ground travel you need to make.

The descriptions for the evil biomes are also fantastic. Especially love "macabre" being used to describe the Crimson biome.

Only thing I would say, is that Small worlds are... sometimes too small, and that you miss out on items because you have far less spawns and perhaps something in the description should mention that it's good for quick play but not really ideal.

But then I think that's more of a quirk with worldgen than anything; perhaps they should stuff more chests in Small worlds to make up for there being less room for some of this stuff to spawn. Like perhaps each naturally occurring chest has a 50% chance of spawning double loot.

I am both mobile and pc terraria player... my main concern is about the mobile... i enjoyed playing in its pc version but the mobile version was left behind for a staggering 3 YEARS... why do you keep us waiting for a very long time for it to be updated?? Why not make a sequel instead?? 3 years is too long... i hope you admins and re logic get my point here... also i think you would notice this since this thread just recently updated...

Really excited to get my hands on the switch version someday, I just wanna play on the go again since the vita version! Also all these graphical improvements will make the game look much more dynamic and solid, really excited to see the PC update to come out as well! :D

Love to hear news about the goings on of Terraria development! Glad to hear that 1.3.1 is coming closer to release and loving the new world creation UI!

Does everyone think they will destroy every single bug untill no bug is left on mobile and console or is it just adding time to their work?
[doublepost=1551479256,1551478981][/doublepost]And the crafting menu better not be messed up in the mobile version cause it's messed up in the console version, it's like they think we have a mouse and keyboard for mobile and console computer UI doesn't work for console and mobile.
