Terraria State of the Game - October 2025

Well, it is a Public Forum, after all. Also, Sister, this ain't for you- or anyone else here -actually, it's for the Devs. I tend to play video games rather than talk about them, at least not online anyway (gots me IRL's for that), but I have been here for a not-insignificant time. My words are directed to the people who make this game, and make the decisions that they have. This account is only 8 years old, but I've been a lurker since before the Otherworld announcement, and the main reason I come here is for the updates. Ever see me talk outside of SoTG's? Nah, fam.
You talk like Re-Logic owes you money for every day the update was not released.
Are you going to buy 145 Terraria copies when it's out?

After reading Aetelas' detailled post, I still do not fully understand why people still complain when the devs clearly say that the update is coming closer, because the devs fix any bugs they come across before release, so it means that there is no radio silence. Now addressing Aetelas:
... You're not even getting this update out this year? At best it's a maybe? How absolutely, unbelievably pathetic.
I am thankful that when the update comes out, I do not have to pay for it, after I paid 10€ to purchase Terraria. It may be that I am somehwat biassed by being a bit accustomed to delays, because I regularly ride the trains of the Deutsche Bahn which are notorious for being delayed. However I see even in train delays two things I am thankful about: 1. It is out of my control so it is not my fault and 2. that in Germany deadly train accidents happen incredibly rarely compared to the USA [1]. If I can withstand train delays, it is easy for me to withstand even more delays for updates for a videogame. For Terraria I am thankful that it only cost 10€ to buy it and that there is no pay to win or microtransactions or being online being mandatory and that the devs are directly interacting with the community members when they have much time, to take suggestions.

Now to that it would be a "mistake" to delay the update and why rushing the update would be worse:
'Sorry' would mean you would recognize your mistakes and do something- anything -about them.

They do things to prevent that we get a super bugged 1.4.5 update, such as beta testing and bugfixing [2]. They do things to prevent future messages like "BROKE 🎺 GAME 🎺" which prompted them to make the "getfixedboi" seed which received good feedback [13]. Here they say that they are now fixing up the bugs:
Last month, we shared that we were quite close to the content complete/Release Candidate stage. Things are still looking pretty decent in that regard, enough so that parallel beta testing is underway on most platforms so that we can go ahead and capture and fix bugs as they arrive rather than a strictly sequential process.
Release Candidate comes after alpha (prototypes are tested internally) and beta (prototypes are shown to a smaller audience, just like ChippyGaming played a prototype beta of 1.4.5) and means basically that only bugfixing is left [3].

You're all determined to sell people on the idea of features that most people will never remember, much less ask for. 'Simultaneous Release'? Who the hell is going to remember "That one time where that 'Legendary' Company 'Re-logic' managed to release a game everywhere at the same time.
Re Logic tries just like in 1.4.4 [4] get the update release for every platform Terraria is supported on (IIRC that is PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Switch 1, Switch 2 (?), mobile). They learnt in the past that releasing on PC first before console and mobile would be less well received than all at the same time, for example YouTubular said here that back then in 1.3 when it came out for PC it seemed for them that the mobile version would take long to get to 1.3.

I used to play Terraria mobile back when I was in elementary school but the updates were always a few behind PC... I remember it got up to 1.2.4 and it seemed like they were never gonna update it to 1.3 because the new content like Moon Lord and the pillars were "too intensive to run on mobile." So I created a Steam account just so I could play Terraria 1.3 and the rest is gaming history...
Now for that they shall release in multiple parts:

Gods above, how about y'all just learn to be like literally every other developer in history, and make multiple updates, rather than trying to one-and-done your update?
For me a very well thought out update is better than multiple small rushed updates because Re-Logic values quality over quantity and to get quality I learnt in university during my Bachelor Software Engineering that it just takes a longer time. There are several examples where a severe mistake in the update caused severe backlash, such as a severe crash bug in Forza Horizon 4 that caused the game not start at all for several days [5]. Also the devs put in very much love into their updates, as shown that they won in 2021 the Labor of Love award on Steam [6], and putting love into your product makes that the making time take longer.

My official prediction is an April of 2026 release date. Remember folks, they can't release an update until they've promised, or pushed their development window back at least 6 times.
After reading several times your complaint, thinking and searching a bit on the forums and other internet sources, and composing my comment for about for the past hour, I have trouble understanding, how your prediction is "official" despite that you are not part of the Re Logic development team.
Why do you think they have regular SoTG in the first place? They learned! [Newline removed]... Juuuust sittin' here wishing they'd do a little more of that, and a lot less of what they are doing.
If they learned from past mistakes, according to you, then why are you still not happy about the regularity of their communication? Back then, in the first state of the game thread, in September 2018 they even said explicitly that they want that the community sees a bit of the development process [9]. Back then was that a communication that bug fixes were en route but later State of the Game became a tool to tell what is going on behinde the scenes. The State of the Game threads were generally well received as seen on the many heart and thumbs up reactions. Putting up a State of the Game thread also takes a not small amount of time to get the communication across. In the State of the Game December 2023 Tunnel King explained me why the post date was 13 days before the publishing date and that was to collect the information before publishing the thread [8].

A close friend and colleague of theirs did pass away after all. From what I can tell it took several months to get back into the swing of things on their end after that.
As Dapling said, the team had to endure a death inside their team, which implies that they needed time off to grief. And honestly, after four and a half years positive experience of them posting the State of the Game threads, before the death happened it was good that the devs were open about that and posted that on the forums for the public [10]. By openly talking with the community, they broke the stigma of grief after a friend died. It has been scientifically proven that if one had submitted to the stigma of grief, it would have severely made more difficult to process the grief [11], which in turn would have brought at minimum severe delays, if not worse things for Terraria. When I saw the thread of the death case inside of Re Logic [10], I was 18 and a half years old and it helped me to know how to give condolences to my real-life friends if in their friend circles death cases happens and it helped me to enrich the knowledge on how to process grief when my now 76 year old grandma at one point will pass away.

I tend to play video games rather than talk about them, at least not online anyway (gots me IRL's for that) [...] Ever see me talk outside of SoTG's? Nah, fam.
When there is a big community, actually Terraria is the 9th biggest game community by game sales (as of Feb 18, 2025 [12]), it is a natural thing that there forms an internet discussion somewhere. I want to remark that not everyone has real-life friends that also play Terraria, for instance in my university, almost everyone of my fellow students plays more games in the MMORPG, MOBA and shooter genre, so I have no one to talk to about Terraria which is the reason, why I am in the official Terraria forum talking extensively about the game (barring breaks for personal or academic reasons) besides in the SOTG also in the Terraria discussions for suggestions and general Terraria topics and additionally I go around and use the software-related softskills (e. g. troubleshooting and technical communication) I learnt in my university to help people if they have issues to open Terraria or experience error messages, i. e. want to play but can't due to technical issues. Also what I want to make clear is that not everyone has super much time to play Terraria extensively (like several hours per day), I want to prevent that one reasons with "I tend to play video games" why small playtimes like less than 5h / week, if the "I tend to play video games" is really what I interpret now.

Now as a final note I do not want to say bad things to you as a person but rather I found the need to clear up any misunderstandings of your expectations, which is why I took my time to compose this post. Just like plantszaza "ninja"-summarized me while writing this, it felt also for me like you sounding that Re-Logic owes you like $1093 (like "a buck for each day the update is taking now").
You talk like Re-Logic owes you money for every day the update was not released.

I thank you for your attention and I wish you a nice day

Glasia

Ladies, gentlemen, and gentlepeople... check the banner. I think there's something new there.

I was unsure if it was entirely new furniture or the Pumpkin Furniture resprite.
The yellow color with green outline makes you think it's a pumpkin, but it doesn't look like how current Pumpkin furniture looks.
So I didn't mention it.
The doors and the piano look new.

They look black and light brown to me, the orange color grading is :red:ing things up.
That dresser has an office chair which is absolutely new.

The furniture in the house is all completely new I think. None of the designs look particularly "pumpkiny".

From left to right, we have a modern-style desk with three drawers and a built-in chair (I don't expect it to be functional as a chair, it's facing away). Then we have a three-cushion sofa. Again, matches none of the current designs, they're usually two-cushion designs. Then there's what I suppose is a sink.

There are also lamps. They've got a simple, modern design a bit like a glass lamp, but with a wider foot. Speaking of lamp, there's also a small one (2x2, so like the skull lantern or candelabras). Also a couple of lanterns, that again seem new. Then upstairs we have what might be chests? They kinda look like ottomans, you know, something like this.
If we look at the already revealed new sets, none of them match, either.

localization - not only for the new content, but also weaving in three new languages and the localization community review conducted over the past year or so. This should ulimately yield better translations for existing content that more accurately take game context into account. We are also thrilled to at long last be able to provide Terraria in Korean, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese. This area of game development is often more complex than it seems, so we are very glad that it is NEARLY done!

Thank you for translating the book into multiple languages, including the Japanese version, despite your busy schedule.
The Japanese translation for the console version was pretty disappointing, so I have high hopes for the official translation.

If they are a new furniture set, good.
More options for modern buildings without mods or optical illusion.

Maybe what we think is pumpkin furniture is actually skyware, as what you guys are calling green looks blue to me. It would probably make more sense as pumpkin though, due to Halloween and all.

My attempt at improving it a bit further:

It seems like we've got a pumpkins wallpaper, too.
wait ,wait, wait, that second flask in the banner... it can't be true... could it be the famous Symmetrical Lance coming to the game? Or am I seeing things, my friends?

With all of that said, we are realistically looking at a launch window for Terraria 1.4.5 that is between mid December and the end of January.
Okay. Cool. But... What year? 😅

You can embed gifs and photos, but you have to open the specific link to the image. I right clicked the gif in your link and "open image in new tab". Then I pasted that into the link option for attaching an image.

Oh, thank you for the info

Huh, December to January potentinal release date? Nice, I honestly wouldnt be surprise if it did get pushed back to Spring/Summer next year due to ssudenly important bug reports an fixing, optimization, testing and first and third party parity when it comes to Mobile ana Console, Im not complaining of course, but if that i happen then calle it, but Id rather they continue smoothing out the game and fixing bugs and glitches or anything that breaks the game, but itd be nice if it came out this year or early next year.

I think it's just a "Modern" set. The chandeliers look like ceiling fans, the piano is a wired keyboard with a stool, and the dresser is a desk + office chair. Not halloween themed at all. All the other furniture fits a "Modern" theme too.

A Modern set fair enough, theres already Pumpkin furniture in the game already.

maybe office work was the scariest thing they could think of for halloween
