If this wouldn't bloat world file sizes a ton, it would be interesting to double the height of the sky so that the surface is halfway down the world. This makes more room for stuff like sky islands and maybe a sky-themed boss in some kind of sky city

had a whole :red: argument on why the SOTG is releasing Saturday lmfao

Still, love the new NPC feature! This'll help a lot of new players find out that NPC's exist without looking it up, because most don't know how to build houses.

On the contrary, I don’t like that houses are no longer required for NPCs to appear in the world.

Why? This just makes it easier for new players to find out the existence of other NPC's.

Since I don't really enjoy building in Terraria, the arrival of a new NPC subconsciously feels like a reward for having constructed a new building. Without this mandatory game mechanic, building a house loses part of its meaning

Building a house still decreases prices, gives you pylons, and keeps your NPCs safe. This new addition won't make building any less useful.

Technically houses are already not needed for some of the NPCs. Guide, angler, golfer, stylist, tinkerer, mechanic, tavernkeep, wizard are all found in the wild. As are the town slimes.

The houses will still let you keep those NPCs at night. If they're homeless, they'll just despawn.

Houses are still worth it... One word - PYLONS

Villagers no longer require a House in order to appear!
(That said, if you haven't built them a House, they'll ask for one!)

We've also added additional hints on how a house can be built, and, added visualization for how housing is scanned!
Any Villagers that do not have a house assigned to them will leave for safety when night comes!
This and the defense visualization is exactly the kind of stuff I was quietly hoping for from this update but didn't think was feasible. Very, very happy about this!
Still hoping for a damage variance toggle, numeric values for knockback and attack speed, and more clear tooltips for regeneration buffs, but aside from that the stuff you've shown off is amazing!

And I hope we get a callback to "X would like to settle down" from the old mobile versions with some of the dialogue.
yes please, that would be such a peak throwback

Thatsfair enough and i get what you mean and the feeling of a new NPC mvoing in a reward for unlocking them and building them a house, which I respect your opinio on btw, though the change does make it easier to get NPCs.

You would rather do something you don't enjoy than not?
I thought games were meant to be fun.

I wrote a long message… published it… and then realized I wasn’t interested in a flame war. Then I deleted the message. Those who understood my thought have already understood it, and those who didn’t just lost 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of the all human knowledge.

As far as I could probably tell, it might not look like they would have this settled next month. It's not uncommon for builds to go through several RC iterations before everything looks structurally sound to all the testers and internal QA. It might be possible that this could be a winter festival gift, but that could even be unrealistic at the moment. Maybe early 2026.

Then again, who knows? Maybe I'll go work on my things on the meantime..

Wow, that's... it?

That's it. That's all? Last time it was "Hey, we don't have a release date yet, but we're in the incipient stages of potentially having one! Maybe! If the stars align, we mean." and this month it's "Hey, yeah, we don't exactly have an idea of what the date could look like.. but hey! We stopped moving the goal posts on ourselves, so that's something, eh? Eh?? C'mon, enjoy waiting another month for the update. Maybe. Possibly. If the galaxies align, we mean."

At this point just be honest and do the thing we all know you're going to do: announce that 1.4.5 will drop sometime in 2026 with an asterisk. It's only been exactly three years between updates, what's another year on top of that?

I mean, at least y'all're consistent, though I wouldn't be very proud of that in this case...

this feels like it's going to be like silksong

It can't be. Silksong was actually released; Otherworld was cancelled.
Silksong was 7 years with no updates, would you rather Relogic went radio silent u til release?
