Terraria summoner progression. (cos why not)

In Terraria the least discussed class is the summoner and why not? it's obscure, it's hard to start out with, and also just a little bit overpowered? So today I will provide a guide on the summoner class leading all the way up to moonlord and end game content.

To start, before any bosses you fight you're going to need a weapon, but there’s really only three feasible pre-boss summons. One of which is Abigail's flower which you get if you place a bunch of gravestones, a flower will grow next to any of them, and that is the summon. the other one is the finch staff found in chests in living trees. For a whip (a different type of weapon) and armor you will need to traverse to the underground jungle to get a snapthorn which is obtained by crafting. The snapthorn can be crafted by obtaining 15 Stingers, three Vines and 12 jungle spores. while you're in the undergound jungle also loot ores and life crystals To get your first armor set, a mixed set, you will need 16 jungle spores and two Vines to get the jungle hat and pants, And for your chest plate you will use the flinx coat Which is crafted at a loom using 10 silk 8 flinx fur and 8 gold or platinum bars, and this Chest piece gives you an extra summon slot. Flinx Fur, in case you were wondering, is dropped by snow Flinx in the underground ice. Alternatively you can use any set of helmet or trousers to give you extra defense or offense whichever you're going for. Like platinum, gold or even pumpkin armor which gives you a lot of attack power in exchange for not much defense.
For accessories, you can find in Ivy chests feral claws which increases attack speed and enables Auto swing. I would also recommend Mobility accessories such as Terraspark boots, a blue horseshoe Balloon, and also frog gear and a magiluminescence as well as Buffs. These are all craftable at a tinkerer’s workshop, which is acquired post- goblin army, which if you’ve reached maximum life yet, they should’ve reared their heads by now. If not go to the dongeon side of the world and farm goblin scouts to craft the goblin battle standard, fight the army

There is really only one Summoner based buff and that's the summoner potion, which gives you an extra minion slot, and which can be obtained right away by way of crafting. Its ingredients are a moonglow, a variegated lardfish and a bottle of water you craft at a placed bottle (you can place bottles on tables or platforms ). Other Buffs you should use include Ironskin, swiftness, regeneration, the honey buff, which also improves health generation and additionally heals you, and endurance, wrath, and rage potions. Additionally you should eat a golden delight for the exquisitely stuffed buff and place down a slice of cake, which is bought from the party girl, and right click on it to get the Sugar Rush buff. Once you have done all these things you should be ready for the first boss fight which if you are really a dedicated summer should be the queen bee, which drops beeswax, or the eater of worlds, which gives access to the obsidian outlaw armour. Beeswax lets you craft bee armor and the Hornet staff, which inflicts your enemies with poison. You can also fight the blood moon fishing enemies to get the vampire frog staff. After you fight the queen bee, the witch doctor will move into your world which sells you the pygmy necklace (a useful accessory) during the night at any time, the hercules beetle, as well as a useful set of armor later in the game but he doesn't sell you that yet. Additionally the witch doctor sells you the imbuing station, which is used to make flasks of poison and Fire, which makes your whip attacks inflict poison and fire. After this you should go to the dungeon to fight Skeletron at night, which grants you access to the bewitching table, the spinal tap, the cobalt shield, and basically nothing else. But the fight there was just for that and also skeletron is a required boss so you should do it anyway. Eventually you'll find the barkeep who sells you items to fight the old one’s army, a useful event, However, you won’t find him until after you best the brain of cthulu (if your world is crimson) or the eater of worlds(if it’s corruption). Using the defender medals you get from the bar keep you can buy certain Sentries from him including the ballista rod, arguably the best of the four at the moment, but the explosive trap rod and lightning aura rod have their merits. Fighting the old one's Army is painful, but the dark Mages you kill at the end will give you three useful accessories: the squire’s shield, the apprentice’s scarf and the war table, all three of which add another sentry to your total. Additionally after you fight, and defeat the Old One's Army you can use those sentries just in normal day-to-day life which is good. In the dungeon you can get bones which are used to craft the spinal tap, the best pre-hardmode whip, especially good against the wall of flesh and later the destroyer and the eater of worlds (if you haven't fought it in the corruption yet) as the spinal tap does better against multiple targets. using hellstone you mined with the nightmare pickaxe you can craft the imp staff, which is also a good summon, lighting things on fire. Additional buffs are from activating the bewitching table and the war table, which give you one minion and one sentry respectively. Now you're finally ready to go fight the Wall of Flesh and kill it.

Unlocking hard mode grants a whole plethora of new upgrades. Let's say the game is nice to you and gives you the firecracker right away from your wall of flesh treasure bag. Immediately go down into a spider nest you found and start killing black recluses to get spider fangs to craft spider armor and the spider staff, your first new hardmode weapon and armor set. immediately after you're done with this you dive into the hallow, find a gelatin Crystal and summon in the queen slime if you want. Before this, I recommend you grind out 2 ice golems for their cores and then at a hardmode anvil… which you haven’t created yet. After this you take your pwnhammer and smash demon Altars in the corruption, or you know Crimson Altars in the crimson. If the game is nice to you which it is it will give you Palladium orichalcum and titanium as your hard mode ores.. Using your molten pickaxe you mine Palladium enough to get the Palladium pickaxe. With the Palladium pickaxe you mine orichalcum to get the orichalcum pickaxe and anvil and you use your orichalcum pickaxe to mine titanium, enough to get the titanium Forge which is crafted using your hellforge and 30 Titanium ore. Anyway, using those frost cores, craft a cool whip. After this you fight the queen slime from earlier. when you kill it the game is Nice to you again and gives you the blade staff from the treasure bag. Quickly, you fight the twins, and then you craft the optic staff using souls of sight, hallowed bars and lenses. And then you fight the Destroyer to get more hallowed bars and then you craft the full Summoner hallowed set with the hallowed Headgear, chestplate and Boots. Or you can stick with spider armour, but you could have also crafted the Forbidden set with three forbidden and titanium bars, which is another Summoner set and I believe gives you another three summons. in the next night you fight Skeletron Prime and then you go to the Jungle to kill plantera and gather life fruit. After you kill Plantera there is both a new summon and a new armor set upgrade available, being the pygmy staff dropped by and the tiki armor bought from the witch doctor. with this it should be very easy to kill the golem and triumph over the pumpkin moon which gives you the raven staff, the dark harvest, and enough spooky wood to make spooky armor. Now you can fight the empress of light by smashing a prismatic lacewing. Do this in the day and upon defeat you will get the terraprisma. (the best summon in the game) Be warned that all of the empress’ attacks one shot you during the day. With luck the empress’ treasure bag will contain the kaleidoscope (which is the best whip in the entire game). Now just 3 things stand between you and the fat meatball of the rainbow crystal staff. First is the cultist, which is a joke and has less health than the empress, duke fishron (who you can fight if you want) and even the destroyer. Now you go fight the pillars by killing a hundred pillar enemies and then killing the pillars that drop 30 to 50 pillar fragments each. Give priority to the stardust pillar which allows you to craft the stardust dragon staff and the stardust cell staff. After you fight the pillars “impending doom approaches”, which means that the moon lord will spawn in a minute. But before you fight him I will tell you what you need/should have.

Combine the hercules beetle and the necromantic scroll to get the papyrus scarab at the tinkerer’s workshop from the goblin army, an early game event, you should’ve fought them by now. Equip the spooky armor to get another 4 summons, Equip the papyrus scarab and the necromantic scroll to get 7 minions, Equip the pygmy necklace to get 8, and being under the effects of the summoners potion and the bewitching table get you another two. This is the maximum number of summons pre-moonlord and the total max summons is only 11. alright, got that? (use the other 3 accessory slots for the avenger emblem and the summoner’s emblem, as well as one of the dark mage accessories for another sentry or the celestial shell and equip the shrimpy truffle mount for 15% damage when under half health or raining. If you aren’t in expert or master mode forget about that and use your hook instead, you should have one from the pumpkin moon. for weapons, use the terraprisma, (if youve fought the empress during daytime yet) if not the xeno staff from the martians or the raven staff i told you about.

So, i hope you did all that. Anyway, you’d better hope you did, because moon lord just spawned. With some determination you should be capable to defeat the moonlord using your hired minions.

Flinx staff just got redacted

BEST Pre-Evils: Summoner
Contrary to popular belief, Summoner can easily upgrade itself into one of if not the strongest early Pre-Hardmode build with a bit of effort. Flinx Staff is one of the best early game weapons, Flinx Coat is one of the best early game armor due to how much value it gives, Snapthorn is another one of the best early game weapons and furthermore, Vampire Frog is also about as strong as Flinx Staff if not stronger depending on the situation, but is significantly more difficult & RNG to obtain, especially for a new player. Snapthorn, besides dealing surprisingly high damage for a whip, has its 6 tag damage acting as a particularly big boost to minion DPS, to the point of being able to double the damage output of minions if not more when taking enemy defense into account. And since minions like Finch Staff and especially Vampire Frog excels at piercing through multiple targets, Summoner absolutely excels at shredding Goblin Army and the evil bosses alike. And piercing asides, Summoner can safely explore Underground Jungle and Underground Desert by summoning Flinx on top of enemies to easily get rid of them fast, even if they're on the other side of a wall. Finch + Flinx with Snapthorn is already enough to debate Summoner being the strongest at this point of the game, but if Vampire Frog is obtained then it is indisputable at that point. You can also whip stack with Leather Whip if you want to further maximize DPS. With such a build, a more experienced player can take on Skeletron early with no problem.

OK FINE I'm wrong. I just put this here as a guiding point in case someone DOESN'T know how to play summoner but they want to

If you try to play pure summoner (which I personally do not like but everyone has their opinions) then summoner is hard to start out with though.
It gets powerful pre-boss, but the issue is getting there in the first place, it's annoying.

Jump off a cliff for abagail

I did not bring up let alone specify Pre-boss in there, I specified & talked about Pre-Evils. Please don't edit my posts before quoting them.

When it comes to pre-boss and the start of the game in general, "classes" and builds in general especially aren't a thing, if someone wants to go for a Summoner build then they should simply carry a bow or gun or something until they find their desired weapons.

Sorry, I forgot to use the title of the stage and assumed it was pre-boss because it was first. I apologize. It was my mistake and I admit it.

obsidian armor, pygmy necklace, Snapthorn & Flinx staff can literally beat WoF pretty easily
you can use summoner pre-boss gear to beat WoF reasonably

Obsidian armor and pygmy necklace aren’t pre-boss.
I know, I said that with that gear it's easy
I said with pre-boss gear it's reasonable

Is the bee armor good for the wall of flesh? I am still pretty new to summoner expert mode, but I already got pygmy necklace and bewitching table as well as some summoning potions. Also instead of getting golden delight, you should get the steak instead not only golden delight is tedious to get or you're just lazy (like me), farming underground enemies for steaks is a better choice. Sorry for the lack of good grammar english is not my first language. Also should i do old one's army for sentries?

I’d say yes, but mostly to get a head start on the armor sets. Although often weak on their own, they’re insane for armor mixing due to the large stat boosts.

Okay thank you. I'll be right back.
