So you want a subsection for guides that are not tied to the platform areas (note that there are guide sections for each platform) for guides related to random stuff? That's doable, if I understand you right.

What I'm specifically proposing:

In the cross-platform discussion the player creation forum has 4 sub-forums. I'd propose keeping everything as-is except for the video sub-forum - I would instead suggest having a video sub-forum for LPs, Reviews, Previews etc. and creating a 5th sub-forum for Guides.

I know that there are dedicated platform-specific guide sub-forums, but the console/mobile guide sections are almost empty and the cross-platform discussion has more guides than the PC guide sub-forum. I think it would make sense to have a separate Guide sub-forum in the cross-platform discussion section since a lot of guides are getting posted there.

This is done in the interest of transparency and community review of staff actions, not to shame anyone. Was similar on TO, and we saw no reason to change here. If the community at large desires a change, that's easily done.
And how do normal members know one of their friends wasn't just banned out of the blue and for no reason, then?

You're really asking for warning points to be hidden to the public, hence letting open the possibility of "conspiracy theories" about banned members - something that doesn't need encouragement, at all.

May be just me, but I have a thing against allowing the authorities to do things in secret. Especially things that involve "crime" and punishment.

That makes sense. I understand why you'd want to keep warnings visible for transparency.
I'm still not sure why they need to be cataloged on a profile page though. Loki, do you mind if I shoot you a conversation? I'd like to discuss my reason for this suggestion as well.

Before I look into this - are those guides SUPPOSED to be in the PC/Console/Mobile sections, but are misplaced? Or are they truly platform-agnostic?

Sure. I mean, I generally understand both sides of the debate - but I side on the "you guys can see what we are doing to serve as a check/balance" in general.

Oh, I forgot to mention.

Just a little suggestion completely unrelated to the first one.
Do you think there could be a link to the rules on the main page that's a little easier to spot? When I first read the rules, I couldn't even find them until I went to Loki's profile, and looked under the past threads he made.

Maybe have a link on the sidebar or something?

Skiphs has additions to the top-bar on his list...including the rules and the user guide. I'll poke him again this week. ;)

Yes and no. Many of the guides apply fully to multiple platforms, but the rest discuss elements that are relevant to all platforms but also have elements that are currently PC only. For example: I have a chain autofarm guide which features minecart tracks in some of the featured builds in the guide (which don't apply to console), but the guide features a ton of information about how to maximize spawn rates and how to control what spawns in a farm or what drops in a farm. Plus, the info within a guide that might be currently PC exclusive might end up applying to console eventually anyways, assuming that future updates to console are on their way.

I like being able to see why people have warnings; its generally a clear case of what the community should NOT be doing, and others can learn from the mistakes of others.

However, this same logic doesnt seem to apply to banned people. When someone is banned, you cant even view anything about them, why they were banned, what led to the ban, etc. Suddenly, EVERYTHING is off-limits. The staff could ban me as a joke and nobody would be the wiser. Not a fan of that.

Devalaous is onto us! Quick, ban him before this gets out!

Kidding.

I too, since even back in on TO, always hated that you can't see the warning points of banned members, but as far as I know, there's no way to get about this (at least not without a plugin). Still, you can always PM a moderator or Loki if you need more information.

That is native to XF, I'm afraid.

As Char noted, always feel free to approach respectfully with questions. :)

I really like the looks of the forums and all the stuff related to it, but it would be great if we could have an option to turn off/on some of the categories.

For example: if there is an option in our profile settings to hide some of the forums we are not interested in, cause it takes a long time to scroll to the end of the page (maybe that's just my laziness talking), but personally I think it would be great to have this option.

I haven't heard of anybody doing this yet on TCF, but I knew that on TO, several users used Adblock Plus to remove sections they didn't use from being shown.

Not sure if it's possible to make forum sections collapsible for easier viewing with our current setup+plugins. I never tested it out (or even thought to) when I was messing with the XF demos.

TCF is awesome. I only have one problem. It should be were the devs have tobbvald's tinkering and zoomo's suggestion put permanently as a section, and it won't disappear until they read it.

There is actually an option to watch specific forums. This way you can have a list of your own for the forums that matter to you :) The watch forum button is up near the right I think and the list is in the main bar right under the 'Forums' tab. :)

LOL yeah, I know :p
But that wasn't what I was looking for, oh nevermind, I don't wanna spam this thread anymore.
So thanks for replies and keep up the good work!

There's not a way to do this in vanilla XF, but there are some plug-ins that would seem to provide this ability. We'll add it to the list of things to consider.

IIRC, an earlier version of The IGF forum has a feature that let you click an arrow on the major node sections and collapse or restore them (it's now a '--' at the top right of the sections). That might be an option in XenPorta or something to enable that. I think that would only be a visual ignore, more to focus on a section for a while (you'd still see the alerts and new threads for the collapsed sections).

Wondering, can we get confirmation boxes for unfollows and unlikes? Too often mobile throws off my aim, and I don't want to cause awkwardness when the accidentally-unfollowed or unliked person gets an alert as I undo my mistake. It would be nice to have a safety catch.

I'm pretty sure that people don't get alerts when a comment is unliked or they are unfollowed. Unless there is some option I'm unaware of that lets you receive these kinds of alerts.

When I undo the damage by liking their post or following them again, however, they do receive an alert. I find that a little embarrassing...
