Because we need more daytime events. For night, we already have the Blood Moon, Pumpkin Moon, and Frost Moon, and for day time, all we have is a solar eclipse. And thus we have the cursed night.

It's a daytime event because it's after normal nighttime. When it happens, this comes up:

"They have awoken..."

It will be darker than nighttime, the moon will become gray with black cracks and goes backwards, and the water will become black as well. Torches have a chance to burn out except for cursed and ichor ones. And last off, loads of new monsters and items. It will happen after Plantera is defeated.

When the moon is outside the left side of the screen, the event is over and a normal night will continue, with the chance a blood moon will happen.

Monsters:

Forgotten Dead: 600 health, 40 defense, 65 damage, the basic monsters of the event. Slowly crawls torwards you.

Screaming Head: 550 health, 50 defense, 60 damage contact, 40 damage ball, will orbit you like a big cursed skull while firing blood balls at you. Is a skeleton head with spiked hair. Blood balls behave like chaos balls.

Spooked Trunk: 650 health, 45 defense, 55 damage, charges at you with the same speed as a scarecrow.

Possesed Pot: 1 health, 0 defense, 80 damage, breaks in one hit and drops normal pot loot. If it slams into you, it breaks and does lots of damage. Looks like a normal pot but with a blue aura.

Medusa: 635 health, 50 defense, 65 damage on contact, 0 damage with laser, fires a laser the size of the destroyer's at you. If it hits you, causes the stoned debuff for 3 seconds.

Witch: 635 health, 55 defense, 45 damage on contact, 55 damage magic, flies on a broom and fires magic at you. If it hits you, can cause any debuff EXCEPT for tripsy for 1 minute. This includes that pesky potion sickness.

Envolved Werewolf: 10000 health, 60 defense, 85 damage, a tanky, large enemy with a huge attack power and average speed. Is very dangerous. Sometimes howls, calling in other monsters.

Debuffs:

Scared: Reduced movement speed, higher jump. Caused by any enemy except for Medusa, Possesed Pot, and Envolved Werewolf. "You were frightened."

Stoned: Your character will turn completely gray and will not be able to move. Caused by Medusa's lasers. "Unable to move or attack."

Howl: Increased enemy spawn rate. "You hear a long and loud howl..."

Bunny: You are turned into a bunny. Your defense is cut in half, but you move faster and jump higher. "..."

Goldfish: You are turned into a goldfish. You drown on land, you can't control yourself on land, and you gain the perks of the Neptune's Shell underwater. "Glub glub."

Bird: You are turned into a bird. Defense and attack are cut in half, but you gain infinite flight. "Tweet tweet!"

Items:

Forgotten Dead:
Very Rotten Chunk - Summons a pet zombie that doesn't do anything.
The Lost Sword - 85 melee damage, auto swings, is a bit bigger than legendary terra blade.

Screaming Head:
Bone Crusher - 75 ranged damage, uses bullets as ammo. Any bullet that is used with the gun will turn into a blood bullet, which does 10 ranged damage and infects bleeding.
Ectoplasm - already in Terraria.

Spooked Trunk:
Flame Striker - Upgraded flame thrower, 70 ranged damage.
Wood - Useful for building.

Possesed Pot:
Same as normal pot loot.

Medusa:
Stone Laser: 25 ranged damage. To make up for it, it will infect the stoned debuff on monsters 100%.
Halo of the heavens: Summons a Angel. The angel will fire light arrows that do 50 damage and pierce 2 enemies. However, it's time to fire is slow. On the 3rd enemy, the arrow dissapears. Reference to Kid Icarus.
Snake Hair - Vanity item.

Witch:
Any random potion - drops 100%
Broom - It breaks background objects, grass, vines, and cobwebs. A handy little tool.

Envolved Werewolf:
Werewolf claws - 60 melee damage, really fast speed, upgrade to bladed claws.
Fur melidian - Turns you into a envolved werewolf at night. As an envolved werewolf, your attack power and defense goes up by 10. However, you can only use your claws to attack, which does 60 melee damage. Npcs will also run from you and werewolfs will help you. No accessory effects will take place. By pressing p, you will howl, which spawns werewolfs, but also leaves you vulnerable.

Hmmm, an interesting idea. I definitely like the Possessed Pot- that's a pretty neat idea that none of us likely though of, and I'd like to see that in-game, Cursed Night or not.

As for the event itself, it's an interesting concept- a sort-of but not quite backwards night. My only real problem with it is it's still a night event, technically speaking, even though it's considered day during it. However, some of the monsters (the Evolved Werewolf particularly) are pretty neat and have unique mechanics, which is always a plus.

Overall I'm kinda neutral with a bit of support. So uh, +1 supporter I guess.

It is a good suggestion content-wise, but its execution is odd. The moon would have cycled through the sky once, then it pops back to the beginning again? This works as a night suggestion actually. Kind of against your point but that's how it works better. Maybe a Cursed Sun? The sun turns green?

Now that I think about it, that would make a pretty nice corruption themed event. Then the crimson could have its own day event.
