PS5 The Grand Design, where are the buttons that are supposed to be in the top left?

Google has limited information, most of which links to here or the wiki, but The Grand Design, which would be great to carry around in my bag to help locate/disable traps, is very annoying in the way the grid overlay reduces visibility as long as it is in my bag and I'm stationary. All the information I can find directs me to 7 buttons in the top left where I can toggle visibility. I can't see 7 buttons in the top left. No settings that I change make any buttons appear. How do I access these buttons?

Open the tools sub menu from the inventory with is on the right above the coins and ammo slots.
