Chapter fifty nine: Squelch.
The Moon Lord gazed down upon His Nemesis, and wasted no time. Flicking out a Tentacle from his mouth, the Moon Lord began to sap the life from them directly, making it fly out in little Clots. These clots were shot down, but not before they had pulled a little of their health away. Firing off his energy in glowing Bolts, the Moon Lord followed His Nemesis closely as they ran back and forth to dodge the attacks, Phantasm constantly firing away at his open Eyes. The Dragon would also gnaw at whichever Eye was closest, but the Moon Lord tried to simply ignore it.
As His Nemesis scurried back and forth, the Moon Lord conjured up several Phantasmal Spheres, Eye-like balls of energy that hovered in the air, then flew at His Nemesis in an attempt to crush them. They often got clipped by this attack, resulting in a slight stumble as they reached for their unending Potion supply. A few more Bolts accompanied the Spheres, not giving them a moment's rest.
The next attack to come from the Moon Lord's hands were similar to the Bolts, except they were a lot more volatile, and would explode upon impact. They also tried to swerve toward His Nemesis, to bring down that which he had grown to hate. These were similarly dodged, but in doing so, left them vulnerable to get hit by more Phantasmal Spheres.
These combinations of attacks were wearing His nemesis down fairly quickly, but it did not feel like it was enough. A more... Potent attack was needed. Focusing his energy even further, the Moon Lord watched His Nemesis closely, before firing off a massive Beam, filled with the power of Death. He hoped it would be enough to not only kill His Nemesis, but to strip them of their unnerving ability to reincarnate... Which, until recently, had been the Moon Lord's domain.
His Nemesis could not dodge the simply colossal beam, so instead they charged through it, rolling on the other side as it swept through them. It did not slay the stubborn warrior, but it did badly wound them, which helped the Moon Lord's cause just fine. On the downside, the constant volleys of arrows from the Phantasm were starting to tear at the flash around His Hands, and the eyes within were coming loose.
More attacks were traded, and His Nemesis reached for another Potion, already struggling to pilot the UFO as the pain began to blind them. The Moon Lord was not faring too well either, the Eye upon his forehead also coming loose from the waves of Arrows. With a sickening squelch, the one on His Right Hand fell out completely, leaving a row of spines sticking out which had been holding it in.
This Eye, the closest thing to a True Eye of an Old One that the world would be able to see, floated up, and continued to serve the Moon Lord as if it were still a part of him. It rained down Bolts and Phantasmal Spheres just as regularly, yet with even more ferocity, expending more and more power into these attacks in an attempt to end His Nemesis sooner.
His Nemesis ran for it, a wa\ise choice considering their situation, but never stopped returning fire, trying to bring down the Eye on the Head. Most of these shots bounced harmlessly off of the Moon Lord's hide, but a few found their mark, and a few more hit the left Hand instead. After a few more volleys like that, a second sucking squelch sounded, as the other True-ish Eye flew up to join its Twin, and they began to fire off smaller, yet still potent, Beams similar to that of the Moon Lord's own.
His Nemesis wobbled through the air in their UFO, fumbling for another Potion, getting ready to drink it once the current one's side effects wore off. Phantasm was never released though, and the remaining Eye Socket quivered, and the Eye inside fired off another colossal Beam, trying to end this, here and now.
And suddenly... Another Squelch. But this one was different, and the Moon Lord's breath caught in his throat.
