Spoiler: HOI4 non-allies rated from most to least fun to play

1. Soviet Union
This focus tree is amazing, managing the political paranoia mechanic is engaging, the army is large, and spreading communism across eastern europe is just as satisfying.
If you can't manage the country right, though, the Germans WILL destroy you upon declaring war in 1941. I know from experience.

2. Germany
(in a very close second)
This focus tree is just as good as the USSR's, and the army is very very strong.
Managing MEfo bills and Economy of conquest is awesome, and the feeling then you capitulate the Soviets after a long war? peak.
It's not too hard to play, either, if you know what you're doing.

3. Italy
This focus tree is great, and it allows for a very fun Naval game, unlike the top two who has no notable.
It's a little but difficult for a major, though. If you don't beat Ethiopia fast, you may as well restart, and if your navy loses to the Royal Navy, the run is dead and you have little you can do about it. Missions from the Duce are a nice touch too!

4. Japan
This country is... outdated.
Thankfully, the pretty bad Focus tree is getting a huge revamp next update alongside the Philippines and China!
Getting to go to war with china early is relatively fun, but maintaining and Naval game with America and Britian requires skill.

I also am none of those. I haven't played Hollow Knight. I like Toby Fox' games but i'm not obsessed. Roleplaying games are fun but what i like is coming up with fun mechanics.
