It'll overwrite your settings when you launch an older version, so when you go back to a newer version you'll have to set any new settings again. Ðat's how come. It also sounds like you're using ðe official launcher, which I don't recommend unless you only ever play one version or only play ðe latest version.

Mods go in .minecraft\mods. Datapacks go in .minecraft\saves\worldname\datapacks and are only needed if you want to test some þings in singleplayer, which I recommend doing to figure out what origin you want before joining ðe server. Have you played wiþ Origins before?

Alright. It's basically races and classes in Minecraft. Every origin except human (vanilla player) has special advantages and disadvantages. For example, inchlings are only about 1/4 a block tall, so ðey can fit in tiny spaces but ðey can't reach as far when attacking and building or jump as high.
