okaaaay! it's been long enough and I've finished the third chapter! It's shorter than the others and kinda takes a bit of a dark turn because I was listening to Obsidia's Melancholia EP. but anyway, I'd like to at least finish the fifth chapter before posting the third. I really want to get these out once a week, which is the reason I'm stockpiling chapters. I'm back to writing a lot! I'll work really hard on writing today especially.

It's okay, but still I recommend having a 4(8)GB memory stick at least, to have backups of important data. Losing data is one most most awful things. All Nia did that day was craft. Craft, craft, craft. She didn't even like to say that word anymore. Craaaaft. It sounded so dumb. But it had to be done. She coughed when a plume of smoke went up in her face. Right now she was using the furnace she had made to smelt all the iron into bars. It took about three ingots to make one bar. She had found thirty ingots when mining, which would make ten bars. Of course two of the bars would have to go to make an anvil, but that was just part of the process. A thought struck her mind as she cooled to fifth bar. She had never asked Maxwell about the red crystal that she found when mining. It was useful, that's for sure. She coughed. It was really smoky, ashy and messy in here. The floor around her was black. Her face was black, too. Her eyes stung and her hands hurt. There must be some water around that she could use to take a bath. She had plenty of cobwebs as she had collected even more earlier that day. With steady hands she wove the thin stings together to make cloth. She made rolls and rolls of cloth. She could make a robe with this, eventually. Now for some exploring. She set out and went south. It was noon. The sun was hot above her head. Her bag was at her side, along with her spear. In her bag she had some potions shurikens and, as always, that red dust.
Nia picked every mushroom and Daybloom she came across. She could tell what a Daybloom was because the potion book had illustrations. Now she'd be able to make some potions. There was lots of loot. Pots with rope that she left alone. Chests with potions and bags of herbs. Finally she found a large pool of water. The water was beautiful and clear. Delightfully cold. She splashed the water on her face. It cleaned off. On with the arms. She jumped in the pool with all her clothes on, they needed cleaned too. The water felt so good. She rubbed off her arms, face and legs. The water seemed to clean her itself. She dunked her head under. There was something at the bottom. She swam down to it. It was a chest. All blue with yellow and pink markings. She got close to it and opened it. It had special blue boots, flippers and a deflated beach ball. She put on the flippers and swam up to the surface. The new loot was in her bag, including the boots. She took off the flippers and walked around the pool. The boots with wings, which she called Hermes Boots, made the trip much faster. There were more things that could be turned into dye and plenty of herbs that could be used in potions. Dayblooms gave their seeds when she picked them. Usually two seeds. About three hours had passed since she had started heading out, she guessed.
Nia started making her way back slowly. She filled some all the bottles she had collected with water. Along the way she also got even more Daybloom and mushrooms. Slimes passed by. Occasionally she would kill one for it's gel but mainly she left them alone.
Nia finally got home after about an hour. She was completely dry and fresh. As always, bunnies were hopping about, munching on grass. After unloading her stuff, she chopped down some more trees. There was more space in the shed that she had built, so she put the wood there. The day was coming to an end, and she needed to do lots more stuff. Once again, the red dust came into mind. She'd ask Maxwell about that soon.
The sky was blue… the grass was green and birds were chirping. A joy stirred deep in her heart. Maxwell was nowhere to be seen, so why not? Nia set her bag down and leaped into the air. Twirling and swirling, her hair whipping around her face. Music came to her mind. She danced to it. Elegant and energetic. Hopping and leaping and bowing and twirling. The setting sun danced and dazzled her skin. A moments calm. Twirl, stop, twirl, stop, leap! The sun was vanishing beneath the hills… stop. Twirl! Waving her arms and swooping. Dancing. Energy… grace. She raised one hand to the sky. It was over. The song had ended and it was time to get back to reality.
Nia gathered her things and headed inside. It was time to read about those potions again. The joy hadn't left, no not at all, but it fueled her to do some potion making. This would be fun. She gave a
skip. Then she was inside. Maxwell was there, too.
“Hey, Maxwell!”
“Hey. What is it?”
“I found this old crystal in the shape of a heart when I went mining a couple day ago. I picked it up and it turned to dust. I've had it with me sense. What do I do with it?”
“Eat it.”
“Huh? Eat dust from a weird crystal? That sounds sane”
“Seriously. It makes you stronger. Once you eat twenty you are at max strength, for the time being.”
“Uh, cool.”
Nia fished out the dust. It sparkled in her cupped hands. Maxwell was back at reading a book. She lifted her hands to her mouth and ate the dust. It all slid right down her throat. It tasted delightful, like stars and clouds with an earthy edge. She swallowed the bits that had stuck to her tongue. Maxwell was right. She instantly felt stronger.
Nia got the mushrooms, Daybloom and Blinkroot along with her water bottles. She used one empty bottle for mixing the herbs. One problem: the mushrooms weren't dry and she had no iron ore. 'I guess I'll just start grinding up Blinkroot' She used clay to make a mortar and pestle to grind the Blinkroot. She sew together a bag with her cloth that she made earlier, which was still all over her crafting bench. She was meant to craft and make potions and mine, it seemed. Her hands flew as she ground up the Blinkroot and didn't loose one precious speck of dust. The mushrooms and Daybloom were sitting on the furnace drying. They were drying very fast and she was soon able to grind up the Daybloom. Of course she cleaned the mortar and pestle. The daybloom were ground and put into a bag of their own. Everything got ground. She made a lot of bags. A lot of bags. Maybe she even went overboard… 'hey! I don't want to mix them. And each bag is only big enough for one herb.' And she says Maxwell is a nerd.
Ignoring my awesome remark, Nia continued she continued to think about herbs and junk. 'I wonder how I get living wood… Maybe Maxwell knows. Speaking of him, I wonder if he's dead. Or a zombie. A robot would make more sense… His head had been stuck in that book for hours. Weirdo.'
It was getting late and Nia had to get up early to explore. One last thing, though. There was still a lot of cloth left and she had even more wood. She could make a bed with all of it! There were most likely zombies out there, but she could deal with them. The shed was very near, anyway.
“Going out.”
“Mhm.”
Nia managed to get one step out the door before Maxwell got back to reality.
“Wait, what?! Are you insane?! It's night!”
“No, I'm not insane. Zombies are easy to fight. They're so slow.”
Before Maxwell could complain any more, she shut the door. She had a torch with her. 'Thirty logs should be good..' It was an easy job. Soon she was back with the wood and fashioning two nice beds. The house got cleaned up so they could be moved. They were in place and Maxwell barely noticed. She hopped in her bed. It was opposite from Maxwell's. It was so comfy… She'd have a great night's sleep. The torch's flickered softly. The room was pretty dark. She curled up and went to sleep.
It was a glorious new day. The sun was just barely peeking over the trees and mountains. It cast a nice orange light. A few birds had begun chirping. Maxwell was beside his bed drooling into a book. He really couldn't make it all the way there. Wow. Nia got up and stretched then tidied the bed and poked Maxwell.
“Hey! Wake up! You should be the one poking me! You told be yourself that we have to wake up at the crack of dawn! Now wake up!” Nia yelled into his ear. He gave a nice squeak and woke up.
“Why did you have to go and do that?”
“I need to know how to get living wood. I need it for potion making.”
“There are giant trees made of living wood. Some of them have a tunnel leading to a secret room in their roots. In there should be a chest holding some wands that convert normal wood into leaf and living wood. There should be a Living Loom in there, too. You can use it to craft things normal wood and turn them into living wood furniture.”
The second he stopped talking, Nia was out the door.
“K thanks bye!” she yelled over her shoulder. There was adventuring to do! This time, she set off in a random direction. As she ran forward, it seemed to get colder and colder. And she could've sworn that some snow had started falling. The ground got softer beneath her feet and before she knew it there was snow all around her. 'wha….' This made no sense. Why would there be just one area of snow? Why wasn't it snowing ten feet behind her?
The trees here were beautiful. Boreal was the name that came to mind for them. Nia chopped a few down. Their wood was nice and dark. It would be great for building. The bag that she carried around appeared to have gotten larger. It carried lots of wood.
As the snow fell around Nia she got a surreal feeling. There was so much beauty and grace here. As she ran a skipped forward a mountain came into view. It was very tall. Covered in icy blue and white from the bottom to top. The closer she got the larger it became, until she was standing at the base of it. It stretched out into the clouds. There was no going around. There was no going over. But she could go under. There was a cave entrance at the foot of the hill. It looked like it led right under the mountain. It was worth checking out.
The entrance was rather small, but she was able to slide in. She got down on her knees, lay on her back and slid down into the icy darkness. Snow fell behind her which caused more and more snow to fall. It brought down ice and rocks. This was a full on avalanche. She wasn't going down fast enough, the ice and rocks and snow were catching up to her! Suddenly she wasn't sliding anymore. She was falling. There was nothing she could do about it. Then she hit the ground. Ice and rock hit her on the head. Her ribs cracked. She was filled with pain… but she couldn't scream. That would just cause more ice and rock to fall. It was all dark. Everything was falling. She was desperately reaching for her bag, trying to get a healing potion. A large clump of snow hit her chest. She gasped for air as it drew all her breath out. Gravel and ice went into her mouth. She coughed out blood.A rushing sound. Crumbling. Cold. Darkness. Everything was slow. With the little light coming through she could see the rest of the avalanche coming down right above her. She got her bag and ran, still coughing blood. Her sides hurt so much…. It was so dark. So cold… A hard thump sounded behind her. The ceiling started crumbling down.
There was enough ice for her to run on. Her foot landed on weak ice. She quickly dove into her back and painfully stuffed the blue blue boots on. She found herself walking on top of icy water that she almost fell into. There was no time to stop. She had to run. There was a wall in front of her. She had to climb it. Her sides screeched with pain. Her fingers were numb and painful. Blood was dripping down her chin. She had to keep moving. There was a big crash behind her. She pushed herself up the snow and ice wall. There was light. As she ran it got closer. It wasn't as cold as it was before. That was bad. There was a mountain above her head that was falling into this tunnel so she didn't want it to get warmer. The ice and snow would melt.
The light was a small hole in a wall of ice snow and rock. Maybe warmth would be good after all. Nia rammed her shoulder against it. It loosened. There was no time to get out her pickax. She began furiously stuffing her hands into holes and ripping ice and rock from them. She kicked and scratched and clawed desperately. The earth around her shook. Ice was falling right near her head. She began to sob… this was it. There was no way out. It was getting darker, though the light in front of her was clear as day. Her was was covered in blood sweat snot and tears. She had to try… she rammed against the wall once more. Some of the ice fell out. More rocks fell right beside her. She was trapped now. In a
moment she would be dead. That was it. There was rocks on every side of her. But she didn't give up. She furiously rammed her head through the ice. Half of her body was out. Her legs were still in there. They hurt. They were cold. Rocks were falling on them. She weakly grabbed at snow and grass, trying to pull the rest of her out. There was a rock near her. She got hold of it. It was firmly placed in the ground. This was good. She pulled with all her might and got her legs free. Not even a second later a boulder landed right where her legs had been.
Nia scrambled up and quickly limped away. A thick trail of blood followed her. She knew that there was internal bleeding. Maybe the potion would fix it. She couldn't think of that now. She had to run. Run with all her might. It was getting warmer and warmer. She began to feel her body again. Everything hurt more than ever.
Nia was fighting to stay awake… she couldn't fall asleep. She just couldn't. The ground became firm under her feet. In her fog of pain and misery she didn't know just how much time had passed… She ran more. She hit a solid wall. She opened her eyes. It was wood. A tree… a giant tree. A living tree! She was safe! There was going to be a tunnel in the roots with a house. She stumbled around until she felt a hole in the tree. There were platforms. She jumped down them. It was dark. She fumbled for a torch. There was a door in front of her. She opened it. The room inside was so pleasantly cool. She put her torch on the wall. There was a few healing potions in her bag. She drank one of them. She recalled that you weren't supposed to drink more than one a minute… but this was an emergency. She got two more and drank them. Her stomach felt awful. She puked all over then fainted.
When Nia woke up and moonlight was drifting through roots. The air was filled with little particles of dust. She felt good. Very good. It felt like the tree had cleansed her of all pain. Her limbs had no trace of being sore. There were no cuts or bruises on her. Her hair was smooth, untangled and soft. That must be another reason why it's called “living” wood. It revives you… interesting. She got up and looked in the chest. There were wands potions and coins in it. Living wands. Perfect. She could use these for building… fun! She got some of the wood from the tree itself for potions. Something good came out of this after all! She climbed up through the platforms to the outside. It was nearing a full moon. She must've already been here for eight days. Time had just flown by. She was at the base of the tree. It was so calm tonight… but something bad would happen soon. She felt it in her blood.
The moon shone bright down on the pure green grass. A gentle wind stirred the sliver lined trees. A zombie moaned somewhere off in the distance. Unbelievably calm. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts, Nia. You'll have lots of fun soon. She walked out and around the tree. There were barely any monsters tonight. It felt good. The night air was crisp and cool. It felt good, though she still enjoyed warmth. There was something magnificent about the skies. Bright colors and stars were visible. Brilliant greens and purples. A cold blue planet and a hot red star. The constellations so clear. She could see images in the stars. There was great strife and bloodshed. Hopefully these were tales of the past, and not the future. A meteor flew across the sky, then another and another. It must be a shower. It was so serene up there. Magnificence. True beauty. The moon was a pale aqua with a thing ring around it's lower third. She could've sworn there was a big splotch on it. Maybe there was. Maybe it was a crater. Who knew? It wasn't something worth pondering right now. This was a well earned night of peace, it was not to be wasted. She walked and walked. She wasn't tired at all but it felt like a dream. The grass was still a little crunchy beneath her feet. She wasn't worried, though. The ice was behind her and she had learned her lesson. There wasn't a living creature around. A flood of emotion came over her. Calmness. Despair. Loneliness. She was okay… just lonely. Having Maxwell around was okay, but she needed someone else. Someone who understood, if that was possible. She sighed and continued her walk. Something good would happen through the future mess. It had to. The moon slowly made it's way across the sky. At midnight she was walking. One, two, three… still walking. It only felt like minutes. She was just so lost in her thoughts. The sun began to rise. Still not tired. It was morning now. The daybloom had popped back up. Squirrels popped their heads out of trees. The crisp grass was now all dewy. Birds began to sing. She looked up at the thick forest just ahead. She must've ended up turning somewhere and going east because the sun was rising over the forest. She could see flowers and butterflies in the forest. This was going to be a good day. She turned around and started heading towards home. She knew very well that she could just use her magic mirror.
It was afternoon by the time Nia got back. Maxwell was sitting outside, reading a book.
“Hi. Where have you been?”
“Nowhere in particular. I found a living tree.”
“Cool. Say, how much money do you have right now?”
“About a gold. Why d'ya ask?”
“You should build a new house. A merchant will be interested now that you have money.”
“Okay. Sounds good.”
'I need the time off anyway.'
She found a nice spot to build and grabbed her boreal wood. She just started building. Nothing in mind, really. Time slipped by before her eyes. It was nearly night now… Her house wasn't done yet. She looked up at what she had built so far. It was okay. Just a simple house. It would have three different rooms in it to house three different people. The feeling of loneliness was back. How would she ever be able to be rid of it? She sighed… why had she been thrown onto this awful world? She placed a torch. There was no one here. She went inside and made a bench. There were just a few finishing touches to be made. The rooms were defined. The pressure in her heart just got worse and worse as she continued building. Left alone with her thoughts… all alone… she hit the wall hard with her fist. It was night now. Her head was hung low. She took a deep breath and lifted her head up, wiping off her eyes. Something would make it all better. Something would come… it had to.
All Nia did that day was craft. Craft, craft, craft. She didn't even like to say that word anymore. Craaaaft. It sounded so dumb. But it had to be done.
Something would come… it had to.
oh, gunna get the laptop soon! I'll be able to write on vacation
