The Story of Red Cloud | Dark Souls Mod - tConfig Edition

Tim Hjersted

Terrarian
Over 2 years in development, The Story of Red Cloud is a massive Zelda/Dark Souls-inspired adventure game built inside the world of Terraria 1.1.2., created by Tim Hjersted.

First released in 2012, with a big 1.1 update in 2013, it includes 13 dungeons and 29 bosses spread across an expansive and interconnected world, encompassing an estimated 15 to 30+ hr experience that offers enough to do and see to enjoy more than one play-through.

Download it here: https://terraria.curseforge.com/projects/story-red-cloud

Since everyone loves lists, here's a run-down of the top features:
  • Single-player focused but multiplayer is also doable
  • 13 uniquely themed dungeon areas spread between both normal and hard modes
  • 29 bosses (7 vanilla plus 22 mod bosses)
  • 70+ new NPCS including 8 friendly NPCs
  • Custom Soundtrack inspired by Princess Mononoke & Zelda
  • Over 400 new mod items, weapons, and armors compiled and remixed from a dozen of the best mods from the community
  • Many hours of secret post-game content
  • Dark Souls Game Mechanics, with the option to turn off souls dropping on death
  • A unique story that's descriptive but not too heavy on text
  • A strong emphasis on visual immersion and a logical connection between areas similar to Dark Soul's world layout.
  • Map created entirely from scratch using Tedit 3, down to individual tree placements and hill curves

Check the ReadMe.txt before playing. See the How to Install folder for details on installing tConfig, the mod, the custom soundtrack and the map (should take less than 5 minutes).

I've heard great things about this map, and finally I get the chance to play it. Thank you.:)

I actually made a few mods for tModLoader, and when I'm done with my playthrough, I may or may not help out with updating this to 1.3. That might be a huge task, but I'll see what I can do.

Also FYI Discord links doesn't work like that, I can't join your server. You need to generate an Invite Link instead.

It's great I see this excellent map and modpack again in Terraria Forums. :)
I sure will try out when I have time after some houseworks.
The 1-block upstepping and the bigger inventories are things I will missing them, but I try to suite my playstyle for the pre 1.2 world.

If you have the time and skills to help convert the mod, that would be amazing. There is a discord server where people have made some progress. The NPC work is the main bit left.

Hope to see you over there. And anyone else reading this.

With tmodloader getting official support, seems like it's finally time to finish this. :)

Yo, this is for other people who want to play this in 2021+ and may be having issues. If you have any issues such as:
- tConfig not launching and displaying an error
- tConfig launching with no sound
- tConfig launching but mods won't load cause they're outdated and the builder isn't working anymore
Follow these steps and your problems might go away! I'm no expert but this worked for me.

1. Install tConfig 0.38 the same way shown here
2. Overwrite tConfig 0.38 with an older version (0.36) that is compatible with the mods tConfig.zip
Some files won't be overwritten and that's what you need for the sound. Replace the rest
3. Continue with the installation instructions in the readme in Story of Red Cloud. After this, Story of Red Cloud should be working flawlessly, mods and all!

Thanks for sharing! I've also updated the official file download with new installation instructions and rebuilt the mods for the latest tConfig. Confirmed tested and working. Folks that would like to play it can download it here: https://www.curseforge.com/terraria/maps/story-red-cloud

Also some exciting news!

TSORC is currently being ported to TModLoader, thanks to Zeodexic, ChromaEquinox and others in the TSORC revival discord. We could still use help converting the enemies and bosses, so if you'd like to join us: Join the Story of Red Cloud Revamped Discord Server!

ETA is summer 2021. Items are mostly complete. Most bosses and enemies still need porting. I'm currently working on an update to the map (adding in the new vanilla bosses, items, and retexturing many areas). I also plan on releasing an update to the TSORC music soundtrack when the mod and map come out of beta this summer, which will have 17 more songs.

Daring (aka Hello, Based Department? on Discord) is working on a 1.4 compatible remix of the map as well, which will likely be released around the time that TModLoader gets updated for 1.4.

Cheers! Stop by the discord if you want to say hello.

I spent some time updating the wiki recently: https://the-story-of-red-cloud.fandom.com/wiki/Welcome!

Of note is a list of all the Let's Plays I could find online (shared below). Let me know if I missed any!

Work continues on the mod port and my update to the map.

Fun fact: since I lost about 4-5 hours of progress a few weeks ago from a corrupted save (thankfully I was able to recover a good portion of it and rebuild the rest) I've been manually saving a new version every 30-45 minutes, going up 1 each time. I'm up to save 201 now. :D

Also Zeodexic created a Trello so folks can track progress on the mod: Trello
