Weapons & Equip The weapon "Starlight" needs a buff

Terrarian
Every other empress of light weapon is overpowered and awesome, but starlight isn't.

Sure you can say that it is befitting of being a melee weapon, but thats not the point. The point is that weapons dropped by empress of light are SUPPOSED to be overpowered, not "balanced" (by making the weapon close range).

Now, what i would change to improve starlight is to increase its attack range by either 50% or 75% or 100%, that way its close range wouldn't be that much of an issue and this weapon could be used against a more wide variety of bosses.

Remember, every empress of light weapon is supposed to be overpowered, and with that I bid goodbye to everyone reading this thread.

I don't know about overpowered. The other ones are balanced when compared to most of the duke fishron and betsy drops.

It could probably use a buff though, it currently uses globalimmunity which hurts it when used alongside summon weapons, should use static or local in my opinion.

Yeah, it's a fun concept. I would try buffing it in other ways than the range, though.

We need more stabbing swords in hardmode

I thing that buffing it's range a bit makes sense, probably that 75% or 50%, let's not make it half screen hight.
Generally the damage of this weapon isn't great until you start to compare weapons with defense setups, then it really shines as it looses very little by having less buffs comparing to how that loss impacts other melee weapons

so-called "true melee" lovers when their sword doesn't cover half the screen: "uhm i think this weapon needs to be buffed actually"

the only one arguably overpowered is terraprisma and thats only if you get it as soon as empress is available since its balanced around being an endgame weapon due to the method of obtaining it

look me dead in the eyes and tell me you think nightglow is overpowered lol

ok its not overpowered but i love that weapon
but yeah Starlight is true melee, it should be risky and powerful, and it is.
It can SHRED cultist in a manner of seconds if you know what you're doing.

That's the entire point of the Starlight. It's high DPS is to reward you for using a short range weapon instead of something like the Terrablade. Buffing the range defeats the whole point of the weapon, especially with its placement in the progression. If the weapon has to be buff, then make it use static iframes and benefits from melee speed so you can make it even more stronger.

its dps is already very very good, buffing that further is pushing things in the wrong direction

i like the idea of having melee speed increase the range slightly, it is consistent with how melee speed buffs most things that aren't swords, and sometimes it feels like Starlight is just a bit too short to be viable. It can be intended to be short-range/high dps, but that doesnt mean that it can't ever be just a bit too short

i think people wouldn't be as mean to starlight as they are if it wasn't for the fact its a proper melee range weapon you obtain in time to be fighting early stage bosses from mid-90s bullet hell games

it hits hard if you can get in with it but getting in with it often feels like a problem and its my go-to argument for why most melee weapons have projectiles on them, "true" melee doesn't work in vanilla terraria's design space due to a lack of consistency in damage uptime compared to just flooding the screen with terra blade projectiles

i do think making it a little bit bigger would be a much healthier alternative but its hard to really say how much is enough for that. if youre crazy it can already hit moon lord so maybe something small like 5% wouldnt be too bad - i just don't want the one endgame-tier "true" melee weapon to risk turning into one of those things that's like ten times the size of your character but it doesn't fire a projectile so it's true melee for true gamers!!!!!!!!!!

and then after we do that we can let psycho knife hit a use time of one the way old baghnakhs could. in this essay i will-

One of the issues with shorter range true melee weapons I have is that facetank builds are very boring but staying close without them is incredibly risky
It would be better to just have late game whip range at this point
