Spears: First all, spears are known as the king of the battlefield, but beyond swords, they don't have that much different other than stick point in one direction. But the last thing I'd want to give spears (most of them) is a straight damage buff. The first thing I think should be changed about spears, including the thrown kind, are that their critical chance should be inherently higher than every other melee weapon type. I mean, it's simple, they are stabby points at the end of sticks, the invention of the spear is when huamnity truly conquered the wild. The next change is to give some of the spears extra knockback, since they are the ideal melee weapon you'd want to use to keep the enemy a safe distance from you. And most significantly, I think that spears should also have the ability to stay out by holding the attack button, like maces can, and the ability to control which direction the spear is pointed in like shortswords, but unlike shortswords, its position can be adjusted without needing to retract your weapon. This would give spears a decisively defensive playstyle, which would diversify them from swords nicely. On top of this, the emphasis on critical hit chance would cause the Rotted Fork from the Crimson to synergize nicely with the Rage Potion's crit buff.
Maces and warhammers: maces are fine the way they are, I'm not here to talk about the "maces" which are in all actuality, flails, no, I'm talking about the bludgeoning weapons, such as the Pwnhammer, I think they should be given armor penetration capabilities. That's it, that's the upgrade.
