Things that you didn't realize were in the game for the longest time?

Pirate Staff. Didn't realise that existed 'till I watched PythonGB's Co-op Lets Play. And the pumpkin pet thingy. I was breaking pumpkins, found that, and was like "What the :redmunch:?
 
Slime Staff. Also the George's Tuxedo set. Maybe thats only on console but I checked the wiki and message boards and got something along the lines of "we dont want to tell people how to get this. Or else people will start cloning them." Im not kidding. Can anybody explain THAT?

so...we could already plant acorns on jungle grass since 1.2.3? finally!
no more waiting untill the trees spawn :D
 
I found out a little while ago that you can place ingots/bars. Does that count? :D

a fish enemy that spawns in the crimson (not one from fishing)

corrupt goldfish appears in blood moon, blood feeders don't.
It's not a full counterpart though

I never heard of flamethrower until later last week, 150 hours of Terraria (not counting xbox time.
 
Not me personally. But my friend didn't know the GPS was a thing until I showed it to him. He's been playing for about 2 or so years.

I just realized that Plantera drops a gun. Stoopid
 
I just found out yesterday that the mime mask exists. I went to my Clothier's house during a blood moon to summon Skeletron and saw that he was selling a beanie and a mime mask.

Also binoculars apparently exist. I've never seen them ever but I read the EoC rarely drops it.

I played 100+ hours on 1.2 before seeing one and i was like "New mob ?", gone to check the wiki and I felt really stupid.
I guess I've never been at night on the Jungle's Surface before that -_-
 
The alternate weapons on mobile and console.
 
I just now found out you could kick NPCs out of their homes by right clicking their portraits in NPC-view.
