Terraria: Otherworld This is the End: Otherworld Development Cancelled

As said, a lot better to wait, to stop the develop, to cancel something your not happy with.
If you feel that this is a dead end, that this product are not what you wanted, that you dont like it the way you should, better erase and restart, beacouse if you feel like this, also who play it will feel the same.
A game is way much more complex thing that most of all think, it must give you the ideas, the feelings and the fun that developers had while building it.
I'm sad with the end of otherworld but i'm also happy, beacouse this is a really professional decision to take, and i know you choose to stop the develop of this game to a reason : give something to us that will smash our feelings and make us feel like you during the develop.

Continue like you have always done things, we will be very happy and proud at the end!

While this announcement certainly doesn't bring happy news, I can certainly say that it doesn't disappoint either. I appreciate the development team for trying to create something amazing after all these years even though it will never see the light of day. At this point, it would be best to view it as a testing grounds for what's to come.

It probably wasn't easy for the team to make this announcement, but thank you for speaking up. Here's to the future of Terraria!

I'm sad to see it go, but I do second the idea of getting a release of the soundtrack somewhere. I'd hate to see such beautiful audio go to waste!

I knew it. As soon as Engine screwed up I felt that T:OW isn't going to make it. And silence about it only reinforced this.
Wasn't really waiting for it anymore, but still feeling kinda bummed. Maybe it's for the best. As long as the other game in the franchise will be taking itself more seriously.

I *do* have a serious concern for future terraria sequels: funding.

You guys went external for a lot of your stuff, and now I'm wondering how much revenue you can realistically expect to bring in to properly develop something like terraria 2 internally.

Maybe console terraria can bring in enough, but I'm kinda worried about how long the company can stay profitable and whether it can afford to develop a sequel the way you want to.

I'm very sorry to hear about this. I, although not perhaps looking forward to it the most, genuinely was excited for this game to come out. I'm glad, though, that you've put it down painlessly rather than dragging its drawn-out life further-- you made the right call. I hope you at Re-Logic and 505 are filled with a rejuvenated sense of clarity, little remorse, and continue to make your fantastic games!

I'm not even the least angry. I can completely relate. I worked on a mod that suffered a similar fate. I announced it and started hyping up people very early. Literally one item was coded. I didn't even know if the mod was going to become anything at that stage, yet I kept hyping people up, and when stuff started going wrong, I tried to hide it. The infamous Mharadium Mod.

Sometimes it's just better to cancel the development instead of trying to force a project (*cough* some similar games to Terraria *cough*). I know Re-Logic has really potential to make awesome games, and this has just shown that they're not only good devs, but also honest devs.

I have to admit, I was really hyped. But this makes me even more hyped for future Re-Logic games. Sometimes game developers need to make mistakes like this to learn from them and become even better at what they're doing. Actually, this can be applied to basically everything.

I wish Re-Logic luck on future projects!

It's sad to hear this news (I'm two days late to the party but shut up), but alas. It's better than releasing a subpar product or letting the game spend further years in development hell.

This kinda stuff is one of the reasons why I seriously respect you guys, as devs- you refuse to put out anything you don't feel is up to snuff, and you clearly have the metaphorical balls to say when you put an end to it. There are many developers I've seen who've had projects like this that went sour, and just refused to address them. So I have to applaud you guys for saying something. It's a sad thing to say, but at least you said it, and we can move on.

Kudos, and I hope the next project turns out better.

That said, it'll be cool to see what concepts are pulled from Otherworld down the line!

Good Day, Terrarians-

We wanted to take a few moments to share some important news with you all in regards to the status of Terraria: Otherworld.

As you all know from when we first announced the game a long while ago – and as we repeated in our subsequent posts - Re-Logic’s focus has and always will be on delivering complete and quality game experiences to our fanbase. Just to underscore it once more, this means that we will not compromise game quality for speed to market or for any other reasons within our control. Our team has a clear vision for this game – one that we shared with all of you with much shared excitement – and, in spite of all of our efforts, the current state of the game remains equal parts far from that vision and beyond behind schedule from our initial planning when we shared Otherworld with all of you three years ago. Progress has absolutely been made during that time – but unfortunately, a very thorough status review of the game versus its intended design showed both the Re-Logic and 505/Pipeworks teams that things were quite a bit further away from the finish line than we had imagined. Taking the massive amount of work that would be remaining to complete along with the extensive time it would take to get that done, and how that would greatly interfere with the pursuit of other projects on behalf of Re-Logic – it becomes clear that this leaves things in a very undesirable state.

As a result, we have made the decision to terminate development of Terraria: Otherworld.

We sincerely thank both of our external development teams for their hard work on the game, but at some point, we have to be honest with ourselves and realize that Otherworld simply is never going to reach its potential in any sort of reasonable time or fashion.

We know that the cancellation of Terraria: Otherworld will not be happy news to anyone. It is FAR from a happy moment for us either, when we look at all the time/effort/resources that we poured into the project. However, we feel strongly that we owe it to our community and loyal customers to uphold the standards that both you and we expect and to focus on delivering the best possible games that we can for you all to play. Come whatever may, quality is simply not something we are willing to compromise on to make a quick buck. It may be painful in the short term, but our sincere hope is that it will pay off for everyone in the long term in regard to our future games. T:OW will never come to pass, but its lessons learned and ideas generated will absolutely yield dividends for everyone.

So, what now? Next Steps for Re-Logic & Lessons Learned

  • In hindsight, it goes without saying that we never should have spoken publicly about this game as early-on as we did. We will fully own that error in judgement. Moving forward, we will be far more judicious about only sharing information on projects in which we are fully confident in regards to timing, etc. We can only apologize for all of the emotional rollercoaster this caused.

  • Trying to outsource development of such a critical title for our company – even if just in part – was not the way to go. Moving ahead, our focus for the core development of new/future titles will be more inward and will seek to utilize our own people. We will share more information there just as soon as we have it.

  • Re-Logic has possession of the game (design, code, art, sounds, etc.) as it exists today, and there are still a ton of amazing ideas under the hood here – many of which have never been publicly shared. These are ideas that we have not and will not forget and that you will very likely see implemented in our future titles.

  • Active development of Terraria continues - 1.3.6 is still very much in active development. We know that we have not shared a lot in the way of spoilers there – but rest assured that the team has been working tirelessly on our next PC wave.

  • This keeps our partners at 505/Pipeworks wholly focused on Console/Mobile/Switch – and there is still a TON to get done there, so that should be good.

Thanks so much to you all for your amazing support of Terraria, Terraria: Otherworld, and our company. It is that support that drives us every day to do amazing things for you and we look forward to sharing more of what is to come very soon.

We are sure that you have a ton of questions, and we will answer what we can – but we will not delve into some areas out of either respect or confidence or the unknown. So we will ask your patience and forgiveness in advance there. Thanks!

If they still have the graphical assets for T:OW then its possible they might use them in the future graphical updates for the sprites in the original terraria game as T:OW so far even though it was cancelled it looked good graphical wise

I know this is an incredible long shot but have you considered crowdfunding? I, for one, would be an instant backer if you went this route. I am sure many many more would join me.

You most likely already considered this but I figured it couldn't hurt to let you know that there would be support out there for this game if you decided to reconsider it.

Thanks for all the Terraria you've already given us and good luck with all future endeavors.

this is sad.
but to be honest I'm a console player it would have taken even longer for it to come out on the Xbox anyway

however id like an update in normalTterraria that had some of the things in other world.
