I personally enjoy throwing weapons early in the game, they can be very fun and powerful (if a little tricky, but that's 100% fine) when used correctly!
Throwing is its own kind of damage and a largely unexplored one in Terraria, as the items all fall off in hardmode, there's no hardmode versions or sets that support them.
The fossil set was a great addition and a step in the right direction, but it comes a bit late and is hard to get due to the dangerous area, and it remains an early to mid game selection.

One of Terraria's strengths is the item variety it has, all the different equips, effects, customization, and things you can find and do, therefore I think expanding throwing is an interesting concept!
It's an fun niche for player builds, but why keep it a niche? It would be nice to add a fourth helmet with throwing bonuses in hardmode since we have bonuses for melee, ranged, and magic. Some upgraded/hardmode versions for some throwing items so they could scale into hardmode better. Perhaps more items like the bone glove? It was a fun and unique item.

Random ideas:
- Adding a fourth helmet to hardmode armor sets to increase the support for throwing builds.
- Or have it be its own unique armor sets like summoning.
- Certain items such as boomerangs could be (or upgraded to be) throwing damage, this would add a lot more options, both early and lategame.
- This could also add non-exhaustible possibilities for the damage type.
- Existing items such as throwing knives and shuriken and armor sets could be upgraded with hardmode materials for stronger variations that scale better.
- Turning thrown items into the DoT niche to reinforce individuality and promote a more fun and unique playstyle.
- Armor sets could include some special effects, such as
- Accelerated DoT ticks
- Thrown weapons applying an unique DoT
- DoT effects having a chance to cause a different effect
- Thrown weapons having a chance to throw a second additional one at no cost

- The underground desert biome is largely unexplored and the loot is much the same as regular caves, perhaps tie it to the throwing archetype and add exclusive loot there?
- Throwing currently suffers from not having an easily obtainable armor set, maybe an earlygame armor set made from cactus and hardened sandstone blocks for example.
