Biomes & Nature [Tobbvald's Tinkering] The Contagion (f.k.a. Corrosion)

Would that mean the Behemoth is basically being controlled by the fungi? Or is it the cause of the Contagion?

If anything, this new drop makes more sense considering how the armor actually looks.
That's true. I honestly really like how the armor looks and I don't think you need to change it, but I just wanted to make sure! =)

Who knows? :dryadnaughty:

Heh. You dog :p

...You know? I wonder if its possible to make a magical item from parts of the Contagion that create fungi that temporarily possesses enemies, and turns them against each other? (Obviously later in hardmode.)

If the theme is Parasites puppeteering corpses, I wonder if its possible to utilize that in some way as a spell to turn what-would-be aggressive creatures hell-bent on turning you to mulch for no good reason, into your own personal (If rather brief and temporary) army? (Save for bosses, or the game would be too easy.)

One thing I'd note about chitinous spores is that it might be a little too fungal-themed; fungi have cell walls made of chitin, so adding spores to the name almost makes it exclusively related to the fungus and not the moth. Just some thoughts, feel free to disregard them.

I don't know about that. I mean the whole biome if pretty Cordyceps related. Pretty much all the mobs have some kind of fungal bloom sprouting from their rotting carcasses :v

The spores indicate that the existence of fungal properties on its own chitin doesn't necessarily link the two as both animals and fungi can produce chitin as a result of being closely related... Look up the biological processes and Fungi and animals and you will find more similarities than differences...

I'm aware, but originally the drops were chitin plating, which I assume was intended to represent the moth's exoskeleton. Chitinous spores are basically just normal fungal spores, and having them as the drop from the boss just doesn't feel right to me.

I was envisioning it as the bosses exoskeleton with fungal growths all over... with that it doesn't feel to bad...

I think it's because animals and fungi are so similar that chitinous spores downplays the moth aspect...

True, However I feel it just needs sprite and or description that shows the presence of both to work. Unless you can think of a better name that combines both aspects.

The thought behind the Chitinous Spores is that they would be produced by its wings, similar to how other members of the butterfly/moth family produces a fine dust in the same area. The thought of Behemoth spreading contagious spores just by flapping its wings is one I'm quite fond of. Quite the Butterfly effect!

Ok that was pretty bad:dryadconfused:

But really, given how both fungi and insects produce chitin, and that both groups are vital components of this entire suggestion, as well as producers of spores, I think it makes a fine drop by the biome's guardian.

A legit biome suggestion. The bulky Blooming Dead's my favourite.

You have my support. SOmething I came up with would be NASTY teamed up with this,,,

Something I didn't catch earlier until browsing profile stuff, but I absolutely ADORE the new BeheMoth Stage 2 sprite! The Stage 1 sprite, though... while its scale is a bit more in the game's style, I still kinda like the old one more in terms of color, shape uniformity, and fungal growth distribution. The new one feels somewhat plain by comparison.

Daimera, I hold you completely responsible for this... thing.
