Ty's Yoyo Redux

Ty's Yoyo Redux is a part vanilla tweaks, part small content mod for tmodloader with the goal of improving the vanilla yoyo-subclass experience. Ty's Yoyo Redux does this through a couple of ways such as: new unique effects for vanilla yoyos, recipes for developer yoyos, new custom yoyos at various points in progression, new yoyo accessories and buffs to counterweights to make them actually useful. In addition, all of these features can be enabled or disabled via the internal config to fit the mod to your liking.

New Effects for Vanilla Yoyos:
Ty's Yoyo redux adds new effects to all vanilla yoyo projectiles (except the Wooden Yoyo and the Terrarian) with the goal of making them more interesting and varied. Giving them special niches rather than just being a copy-paste weapon with slightly longer strings and lifetime. All yoyos now also have descriptions in their tooltips that either allude to or explain their effects so you don't need to check this post whenever you want to know what a yoyo does.

PreHardmode:
Rally now produces damaging afterimages.
Damaging bile now drips from Malaise while in use.
Artery now has a chance to steal life on impact.
Amazon now fires short-range poisonous stingers in random directions, it also inflicts poison on impact.
Code 1 now produces an electrostatic aura around itself that constantly damages all enemies in it.
Valor is now orbited by 3 ghostly wisps that damage enemies they touch.
Cascade now produces fiery explosions on impact.
Hardmode:
Format:C now deals double damage on critical strikes.
Gradient is now orbited by 5 chromatic pulses that damage enemies they touch.
Chik now rapidly fires crystal shards in random directions.
Hel-Fires now fires deadly flame torrents in all directions on impact.
Amarok now leaves a trail of large lingering snowflakes that damage enemies.
Code 2 now produces a large supercharged electrostatic aura around itself that constantly damages all enemies in it.
Yelets now fires venomous leaves in random directions, it also inflicts venom on impact.
Valkyrie Yoyo now periodically fires bursts of 3 feathers at nearby enemies.
Red's Throw now inflicts a random debuff on impact (from a list of debuffs players can inflict on enemies), as a reference to the red's potion.
Kraken now lashes out with 3 tentacles in random directions on impact, these tentacles are infinitely piercing and pass through tiles.
The Eye of Cthulhu now periodically produces small seeking servant of cthulhu projectiles. When hitting enemies it enrages for a short time, producing these servants at a higher rate.

New custom yoyos:
Ty's Yoyo redux adds 12 new yoyos to the game with the goal of smoothing out yoyo progression, adding more choices for variety and adding yoyos where I think they are missing. Boss Checklist support has also been added for applicable yoyos.

Ultimate Yoyo Mod.png

Consecutive yoyo hits builds up combo
Combo increases damage dealt by yoyos by up to 20%

Master Yoyo Kit.png

How to Obtain:
Crafted with: Yoyo Bag + Yoyo Modification Kit @ Tinker's Workshop
Tooltips:
Equipable
Can be worn in vanity slots
Increases your yoyo skills beyond comprehension
'The last of your kind, a true yoyo master...'
Description:
Meant to be an endgame viable yoyo subclass accessory. Has the combined effects of it's materials. Mainly added since the yoyo bag is pretty terrible by endgame since most yoyos hit fast enough that having 2 yoyos doesn't increase DPS and counterweights, being random, have little to no use leaving white string as the only useful effect and that's a pre-boss accessory.

Developer yoyo recipes:
Ty's Yoyo redux adds recipes to the 2 developer yoyos to make them easier to obtain in a playthrough. Whilst still able to be looted from treasure bags, Valkyrie Yoyo will be able to be crafted using 25 Feather + Wooden Yoyo + 5 Soul of Might + 5 Soul of Sight + 5 Soul of Fright @ Hardmode Anvil and Red's Throw will be able to be crafted using 25 Obsidian + Wooden Yoyo + 5 Soul of Might + 5 Soul of Sight + 5 Soul of Fright @ Hardmode Anvil. These recipes place the developer yoyos in progression as a post 3 mech-boss weapons since that seems to be the most balanced place for their current power.

Counterweight Changes:
Ty's Yoyo redux buffs counterweights in a couple of ways. Now counterweights move significantly faster meaning they are more likely to hit enemies, they also use local immunity now so they shouldn't affect the damage of your main yoyo and they automatically switch out after 4 to 6 seconds so that you get more variety in counterweights active.

Thanks for supporting the mod, any feedback on effects or balance is very helpful. The mod is available via the steam workshop or the 1.4 tmodloader mod browser for download.

Gameraiders101 Review (Outdated 1.3 Version):

(Thank you so much for spending the time to feature my mod)

Versions:
v1.0 - 1.4 Release
v1.1 - Added Steam Workshop Tags
v1.2 - Fixed bug with loading without Boss Checklist
v1.3 - Tmodloader new entity source changes
v1.4 - Works in the full release tmod 1.4, balance changes, spectrum effect fixed, an accessory rework and minor tweaks
v1.5 - Minor tweaks and fixes

Ty's yoyo redux is a tmodloader mod I've been working on for the past couple of months with the goal of improving the vanilla yoyo-subclass experience. It is a small tweaks & content mod available now for download on tmodloader that aims to make using yoyos in general easier, more interesting and hopefully more fun. It does this through four main ways: new effects for vanilla yoyos, new custom yoyos, new yoyo accessories and new recipes for vanilla yoyos.

These effects include the malaise dripping damaging bile, the chik spraying crystal shards or the kraken lashing out with tentacles on impact.

PreHardmode:
The Rally now releases damaging afterimages while moving whose velocity is based off the parent yoyo.
The Malaise now drips festering bile straight down which damages enemies it hits.
The Artery now sprays gravity effected blood droplets in random directions.
The Amazon now fires poisonous stingers in random directions, it also inflicts poison on impact.
The Code 1 now produces an electrostatic aura around itself that constantly damages all enemies in it.
The Valor now randomly produces damaging soul wisps around itself.
The Cascade now causes enemies it strikes to explode, damaging other nearby enemies.
Hardmode:
The Format:C now fires accelerating C-Scythes in all directions, it also inflicts confusion on impact.
The Gradient now produces dust and projectiles in a ring around itself that moves inwards.
The Chik now randomly sprays crystal shards. I mean that one was probably obvious.
The Hel-Fires now charges up flame torrents on impact, upon hitting an enemy 3 times it releases said flame torrent as a fiery blast in all directions.
The Amarok now leaves a trail of large lingering snowflakes that damage enemies.
The Code 2 now produces a large plasmatic aura around itself that constantly damages all enemies in it and inflicts plasma seared, a debuff that makes enemies take 20% more damage from all sources. (why has the Code 2 always been so much worse than the Yelets despite being harder to obtain?)
The Yelets now fires venomous leaves in random directions, it also inflicts venom on impact.
The Valkyrie Yoyo now fires slow moving homing feathers in random directions.
The Red's Throw now inflicts a random debuff on impact (from a list of debuffs players can inflict on enemies), as a reference to the red's potion.
The Kraken now lashes out with 3 tentacles in random directions on impact, these tentacles are fast moving and pass through tiles. (My personal favorite of the new effects!)
The Eye of Cthulhu now fires mini spazmatizm flames and mini retanimizer lasers from opposing sides that rotate around the main yoyo. (I couldn't think of a EoC themed effect so I referenced the Twins instead.)
All yoyos now also have descriptions in their tooltips that either allude to or explain their effects so you don't need to check this post whenever you want to know what a yoyo does.

New custom yoyos:
Ty's Yoyo redux adds 14 new yoyos to the game with the goal of smoothing out progression a little, adding yoyos where I believe they are missing and adding yoyos that I think would be interesting, fun or fit well into vanilla. Boss Checklist support has also been added for applicable yoyos.

Also it adds a unique effect that I really wanted to implement as yoyo players (and rangers which I will tackle that in a future mod) are the only... "class" that can't attack through walls at endgame, plus it is pretty cool.
Cataclysmic Crusher.png

‘Massive. Dangerous. Barely even a yoyo.’
Yoyo Stats:
Reach (tiles) - 22
Duration (seconds) - ∞
Special Effect - Quite slow but high damage. Also it's first strike creates a massive shockwave that does double damage. To do a first strike the yoyo needs to charge either by retracting or by not hitting an enemy for 5 seconds, when charged it will make a sound effect and start glowing.
Description:
Made to add some yoyos between the post plantera yoyos and the terrarian as yoyo players are apparently expected to use The Eye of Cthulhu from plantera up until moon lord which is kind of ridiculous. Taking from the golem it is meant to be massive, kind of primitive looking but extremely threatening. The effect is intended to be entirely unique for yoyos (I think it is but I can't be certain that no other mods have done this before) and very flashy.
Extraterrestrial Taser.png

How to Obtain:
Drops from: Any standard Martian Madness enemy (1/800 drop chance).

Fast speed

Description:
Made to add some yoyos between the post plantera yoyos and the terrarian as yoyo players are apparently expected to use The Eye of Cthulhu from plantera up until moon lord which is kind of ridiculous. A very fast and powerful yoyo themed after and obtained from the Martian Madness. Electric themed (hence the name) with the same projectile as the electrosphere launcher/sky dragon's fury.

New yoyo accessories:
Ty's Yoyo redux adds 5 new yoyo accessories, with the intention of adding more options to a yoyo player's playthrough. There is 1 main accessory which is a counterpart to the yoyo bag with 3 parts spread throughout progression, themed around modifying your yoyo with special pieces such as an axle or side effects, along with 1 endgame tinker of it.

Enchanted Yoyo Axle.png

How to Obtain:
Bought from: The skeleton merchant at night after defeating EoW/BoC - 10 gold
Tooltips:
Equipable
8% Increased yoyo critical strike chance
Description:
Effect is self explanatory. Intended as an early game boost to yoyos since the feral claws does very little for them.
Chlorophyte Ball Bearings.png

How to Obtain:
Crafted with: 6 Chlorophyte Bar @ Hardmode Anvil
Tooltips:
Equipable
Your yoyo strikes resonate with nature magic
Description:
Hitting enemies with a yoyo damages all enemies is a small radius around the the impact for half the yoyos damage. Intended to help yoyo players with the main weakness of yoyos, that being crowd control.
Primeval Yoyo Spikes.png

How to Obtain:
Drops from: Lihzahrd (1.25% drop chance). This doubles in expert mode.
Tooltips:
Equipable
Your yoyo strikes penetrate through a large amount of enemy defense
'Who knew the lihzahrd loved yoyos!?'
Description:
Increases the armor penetration of all yoyos by 40, which at the point at which it is obtained it should result in a damage increase of 4-14% depending on your melee damage boosts and yoyo used. Made as a reference to the spiked side effect yoyo modification sold by one drop.
Ultimate Yoyo Mod.png

How to Obtain:
Crafted with: Enchanted Yoyo Axis + Steel Bearings + Spiked Side Effects @ Tinker's Workshop
Tooltips:
Equipable
Massively upgrades your yoyos
Description:
Meant to be a counterpart to the yoyo bag with the combined effects of the above three accessories.
Master Yoyo Kit.png

How to Obtain:
Crafted with: Yoyo Bag + Ultimate Yoyo Mod @ Tinker's Workshop
Tooltips:
Equipable
Increases your yoyo skills beyond comprehension
'The last of your kind, a true yoyo master'
Description:
Meant to be an endgame appropriate yoyo specific accessory. Has the combined effects of it's materials. Mainly added since the yoyo bag is pretty terrible by endgame since most yoyos hit fast enough that having 2 yoyos doesn't increase DPS and counterweights being random have little to no use leaving white string as the only useful effect and that's a pre-boss accessory.

New yoyo recipes:
Ty's Yoyo redux adds recipes to 3 vanilla yoyo to make them easier to obtain in a normal playthrough and for thematic reasons.

Whilst still able to be dropped, it can now also be crafted using Amazon + 14 Chlorophyte Bar @ Hardmode Anvil. This is mainly to make obtaining it less RNG based and to add some thematic consistency with Chlorophyte Bars also upgrading the poison staff into the venom staff.
Whilst still able to be looted from treasure bags, it can now also be crafted using 25 Feather + Valor + 5 Soul of Might + 5 Soul of Sight + 5 Soul of Fright @ Hardmode Anvil. As a dev item the Valkyrie Yoyo can only be obtained from treasure bags normally, this recipe means it can now be obtained for usage in a playthrough easier. The recipe is balanced for after all mech 3 bosses as the yoyo seems to be balanced for a similar point and thematic to the honor and avian nature of Valkyries.
Whilst still able to be looted from treasure bags, it can now also be crafted using 25 Obsidian + Holy Throw + 5 Soul of Might + 5 Soul of Sight + 5 Soul of Fright @ Hardmode Anvil. As a dev item Red's Throw can only be obtained from treasure bags normally, this recipe means it can now be obtained for usage in a playthrough easier. The recipe is balanced for after all 3 mech bosses as the yoyo seems to be balanced for a similar point and thematic to the gold and black/purple motifs of the yoyo.

Thanks for viewing and/or downloading the mod, I've been working on this for a while and the support is much appreciated. Any feedback on effects or balance is very helpful and also yes I did basically make this forums page a wiki for the mod.

Versions:
v1.0 - Release
v1.1 - Mod linked to GitHub & added logo
v1.2 - Updated Logo. Added configs for various mod features. Added boss checklist support for all applicable yoyos. Minor bug/balance fixes.
v1.3 - Updated Logo. Tooltip formatting changes (this should make the tooltips function correctly in shop interfaces and when other mods also give them tooltips). Minor bug/balance changes.
This is a changelog (that no one cares about) that contains most (but probably not all because I may have forgotten to write some down) major-ish changes between the 1.3 and the 1.4 versions of the mod.
- Wooden Yoyo text removed.
- Rally effect reworked, now the afterimages have no velocity rather than inheriting it from the parent and spawn significantly more often in addition they now use static immunity frames. This should result in an effect that looks a lot more like normal afterimages and nerfs it a little.
- Malaise droplets resprited and rate slowed down a little.
- Artery old effect removed in favour of a new lifesteal effect.
- Amazon rate slowed down and range massively decreased.
- Code 1 now uses a sprite rather than dust for its effect (YAY!).
- Valor old effect removed in favour of a new effect where the central yoyo is orbited by 3 damaging wisp projectiles.
- Cascade effect slightly reworked, now the explosion is centred on the yoyo rather than the enemy and sparks are added to the explosion to slightly improve its single target.
- Format:C old effect removed in favour of a new effect where it deals double damage on critical hits.
- Gradient old effect removed in favour of a new effect where the central yoyo is orbited by 5 damaging chromatic pulses, functioning as a sort of upgrade to the Valor.
- Chik average rate slowed a little.
- Hel-Fire no longer has to hit 3 times to produce its flame torrent. This is expanded on later.
- Amarok snowflakes fade in much quicker.
- Code 2 now uses a sprite rather than dust for its effect (YAY!).
- Yelets rate slowed down. In addition its added recipe has been removed (for a couple of reasons).
- Valkyrie Yoyo effect MASSIVELY reworked, now instead of randomly firing homing feathers it periodically fires bursts of 3 feathers at nearby enemies, making it significantly more like actual harpies. In addition the valor in its recipe has been changed for a wooden yoyo.
- Red’s Throw can now also inflict hellfire, frostbite and oiled. In addition the holy throw in its recipe has been changed for a wooden yoyo.
- Eye of Cthulhu old effect removed, it now periodically produces small seeking servant of cthulhu projectiles. When hitting enemies it enrages for a short time, producing these servants at a higher rate.
- All yoyos that do affects on impact (both modded and vanilla), now have a minimum time between activations to reduce the projectile spam caused by tightly bunched crowds and help balance a few yoyos.
- The mod also now buffs counterweights, they all move significantly quicker, use local immunity and switch out after a short time allowing for a greater variety of movement.
- Heavy Roller removed due to not fitting very well and to make way for a couple new more-unique pre-boss yoyos.
- Extravagant Throw removed due to not fitting very well and to make way for a couple new more-unique pre-boss yoyos.
- Virtuoso Removed due to not fitting very well, being really overpowered when it can be obtained and tbh I never really liked it that much.
- Shadowflame Spinner Removed due to not fitting very well and its poorly functioning effect.
- Puffball Removed due to being incredibly unpolished and basically just bloat.
- Cataclysmic Crusher removed for many reasons, including but not limited to: Not fitting very well, being ugly af, being super unbalanced and having terrible code.
- Enchanted yoyo added, a new yoyo crafted with a wooden yoyo and star, basically functioning as a counterpart to the enchanted boomerang.
- Avian added, an exceptionally agile yoyo that is crafted from harpy feathers.
- Prismatic thow added, a powerful pre-boss yoyo crafted from 2 of each base gemstone that produces colourful shards on impact.
- The Asteroid was renamed to Asteroid to better fit prefixes.
- The Hive wasn’t tho (I like the name too much).
- Ravager no longer drops from brides and grooms. In addition it has been MASSIVELY rebalanced due to being waaaay too strong, it now has less damage, no additional crit, produces less projectiles on average that do less damage. It has also been resprited to better fit the blood moon theme,
- Nitro effect reworked, now its trail has infinite pierce, deals significantly more damage and uses static immunity, this should result in lower but much more consistent dps. In addition it no longer produces a trail while stationary and the trail looks better with flames appearing between embers instead of only at them. It has also been resprited.
- Cabal old effect removed, now on impact it causes 1-3 ichor rain projectiles to fall from the sky, inaccurately aiming for the yoyo.
- Holy throw rebalanced, it now has a longer duration than all other finite yoyos and has greatly increased reach along with having significantly greater movement speed. Making it an exceptionally good basic yoyo, fitting of hallowed bars. It also now produces dust similar to gungnir.
- Poltergeist rebalanced a bunch, along with that it also now produces a lot of orange-red light and has a really pretty orange-red afterimage effect.
-Spectrum added, a yoyo that drops from empress of light and sports an effect based off her sundance attack.
- Extraterrestrial Taser rebalanced slightly, also it has a glow mask now.
- My yoyo accessories have been massively reworked, I essentially removed the old effects and the accessories in some cases.
- Ball Bearings added, an accessory sold by the mechanic that increases the lifetime of yoyos by 50%.
- Enchanted Axle added (Despite sharing a new with the old one it has few similarities), a magic quiver equivalent accessory for yoyos that increases their damage by 10% and increases the speed at which they move. The damage increase stacks with its tinkers, the speed does not due to yoyos over 20 speed acting weird. It is dropped by post plantera dungeon enemies.
- Yoyo Modification Kit added, a tinker of the above two accessories. Uses the old Ultimate Yoyo Mod sprite.
- Master Yoyo Kit, sharing both sprite and name with the accessory from the 1.3 version of the mod, this accessory is a tinker of the Yoyo Bag and the Yoyo Modification Kit. This essentially works as an endgame viable yoyo accessory.
- Many Many MANY Many other minor changes to yoyos & projectiles and their stats, like too many to name, I don’t even remember them all. This was an overhaul to the mod after all and I did the majority of it from scratch.

This is incredible, I'm speechless, I'm already in love with yoyo's in vanilla and you just made yoyo's even better, Cheers.

Good mod. Yoyos deserve to be as interesting as other classes, and this mod implements that very well.

Trying to play through expert mode for the first time using meelee, I want to try this mod out. Should I make a new world for it? Or can I continue in my current world with this mod?

You should create a new world, experiment with new experiences!

All the yoyos + accessories added are either drops, bought or crafted so you can add it to a playthrough at any point.

I hope you make many more accessories for yoyo.
Don't you plan to make crossmod yoyo item with other mods?
As of right now, other than a few bug/balance fixes, resprites and some 1.4 content, this mod is pretty much done so I doubt there will be any new accessories. However there is a possibility of a rework for some the currently existing accessories as I am not the biggest fan of the effects of the chlorophyte ball bearings and primeval side effects.

As for adding crossmod content, this mod is intended to be a Vanilla+ mod and as a result I intend to stick as close to vanilla as possible whilst improving on what already exists, hopefully allowing this to be compatible with all other mods. As a result I won't be adding any crossmod content on my end however if people would like to add compatibility to my mod in their mod then they would be more than welcome. :)

Thanks for this, i was going crazy looking for a upgrade mod for the Yoyo Bag for my Calamity Revengance run.

Ty's Yoyo Redux

Ty's yoyo redux is a tmodloader mod I've been working on for the past couple of months with the goal of improving the vanilla yoyo-subclass experience. It is a small tweaks & content mod available now for download on tmodloader that aims to make using yoyos in general easier, more interesting and hopefully more fun. It does this through four main ways: new effects for vanilla yoyos, new custom yoyos, new yoyo accessories and new recipes for vanilla yoyos. In addition, all of these features can be enabled or disabled via the internal config to fit the mod to your liking.

New Effects for Vanilla Yoyos:
Ty's Yoyo redux adds new effects to all vanilla yoyo projectiles (except the Wooden Yoyo and the Terrarian) with the goal of making them more interesting and useful. Giving them special niches rather than just being a copy-paste weapon with slightly longer strings and lifetime.

Description:
Made to be a yoyo drop loot from the pumpkin moon to give yoyo players a reason to fight that event. Also it adds a unique effect that I really wanted to implement as yoyo players (and rangers which I will tackle that in a future mod) are the only... "class" that can't attack through walls at endgame, plus it is pretty cool.

How to Obtain:
Drops from: Golem in normal mode (25% drop chance) or Golem Treasure bag in expert (33% drop chance).
Tooltips:
167 Melee damage
4% Critical strike chance
Fast speed
Very strong knockback
‘Massive.

How to Obtain:
Drops from: Any standard Martian Madness enemy (1/800 drop chance).

Fast speed
Weak knockback
Electrifies enemies on impact
Yoyo Stats:
Reach (tiles) - 24
Duration (seconds) - ∞
Special Effect - Upon striking an enemy it produces a lingering electro-sphere to damage enemies.

Tooltips:

Your yoyo strikes penetrate through a large amount of enemy defense
'Who knew the lihzahrd loved yoyos!?'
Description:
Increases the armor penetration of all yoyos by 40, which at the point at which it is obtained it should result in a damage increase of 4-14% depending on your melee damage boosts and yoyo used. Made as a reference to the spiked side effect yoyo modification sold by one drop.

View attachment 316676

(Thank you so much for spending the time to feature my mod)

Versions:
v1.0 - Release
v1.1 - Mod linked to GitHub & added logo
v1.2 - Updated Logo.

Planned changes:
- Change Code 1 and Code 2's auras from dust to an animated sprite.
- Update to tmodloader 1.4 whenever that happens.
- A final "Zenith" tier yoyo, called "Andromeda". (For 1.4)
- An empress of light yoyo, called "Spectrum". (For 1.4)
I played through the whole thing, the mods are really fun to use and collect, the only thing I would change is 1. The martian's yoyo has a ridiculous low rate, like I coudn't get it after like 10 attempts, and 2. we need Zenith yoyo.

Hey, how do I obtain side effects and such? An npc? and pls add a crafting recipe for them too..I also couldnt find the chlorophyte ball bearings you mentioned above in the thread. Thanks!
